Now that this is nearly done, I can finally pick up from where I left off at ep 17 and I'm sooo keen to have 10+ episodes to binge 😭🎉 the amoune of will power it took to hold off from picking it up each day was insane and now it's like a little reward lol

Also, Sima Jiao is not piling up the bodies fast enough for my liking... too many annoying characters that keep coming in between them and I'm getting a lil frustrated now

That's the xianxia genre (chinese historical fantasy/fiction) for you... the CGI in this one is actually really beautiful and pretty well-done, and I can say that because I've seen my share of mediocre ones in my years of consuming asian media. If you're not used to this genre, I'd suggest pushing through until you get used to the CGI because you'll be missing out on an excellent drama with a really great storyline and acting if you drop it :)

As someone who has read the novel, it has so many problematic elements that I'm glad the show changed up. Also, the novel was quite long, if they portray everything that happened in it into the drama, more than 40 episodes would be needed. And the regulations in China capping shows at 40 episodes were just recently changed. Considering all the hoops they had to jump to pass censorship that the novel doesn't have to worry about, I'd give the drama more grace.

Rewatching this while waiting for WDBTD to finish airing and I've forgotten just how good it is. Everything from the acting, to the costumes, to the cinematography is excellent. Qiao Man is up there for me along with Dou Zhao for the best written female characters...

Obviously, I'm pointing out the similarities because if he is in fact based on yeonsangun then his ending is likely to be the same; he was dethroned by a relative and died. I do hope they change this up because it would be very depressing if not...

Is the ML supposed to be based on that tyrant yeonsangun? I'm definitely seeing the similarities; his queen mother was put to death by his king father so he spends years getting revenge for her, he was crazy about women and abducted thousands of them for his harem, he was more interested in the arts than ruling, etc...

well to be fair to him, he was only using the whole chaehong process to weed out the ministers that were involved in the case of his mother so I think the whole 'woman crazy' persona he has going on is to fool his ministers and his harem into thinking he's incompotent

I’m gonna make the executive decision to drop this drama (for now) until all the eps are out. I’ve watched until ep 18 and the wait every day for a measly 2 eps and soon 1 ep/day is torturous 😭 I’m gonna use this break to catch up on moonlit reunion

We knew she wanted to kill SJ and TY and she never pretended to be on their side or as if she was on some holier than tho quest. As they say, better the devil you know than the devil you don't. Ruling befriended TY and HJ with a motive, and now that she's been exposed she actually has the nerve to shed tears 😂😂😂😂

Respectfully, I disagree. You're not considering the fact that she's a person from the modern world who is burnt out from being overworked. This has affected her wellbeing to the point that when she was transmigrated into this mythical world of cultivation, she realised that she can finally have a real break and doesn't have to follow the capitalistic ways of maximising your time at the expense of your wellbeing.

Also, don't forget that the ML basically forced her to be his companion in the beginning and has threatened to kill her each time she tries to go against him because he doesn't trust her. She's not from the immortal realm, so how can we expect her to adhere to their ways or improve her powers when all they've done since she came into their world is try and kill her??

And she's not weak by any standards, she's simply not interested in improving her cultivation because she doesn't see the need for it. She's starightforward and doesn't let anyone walk all over her, she's also not on some moral highground where she thinks everything the ML does is unjustified and evil. I think that makes her relatable and likeable and I'm sure a lot of people watching this would agree with me.

I don't understand Chu Zhao's mindset at all, he's supposed to be intelligent and realistic from what we've seen so far. I don't understand why he's so delusional about He Yan, he know's that she and Xiao Jue have mutual feelings for one another, and He Yan has given him NO indication that she even has a sliver of romantic feelings for him so where is he finding the audacity to continue on his current path??? (from ep 34's trailer)

It must be the usual "she was nice to me a couple of times, and she's conventionally attractive, therefore she MUST be secretly in love with me" disorder that so many men seem to suffer from....

For me, when destiny brings the demon (a currently airing show), has been pretty excellent so far. The plot isn't something new or original, but the acting and characterisation is refreshing and very funny. The plot also flows very well, I can't recommend it more :)
