Where did you read the statement from the script writer? The original ending (not including the extra scene) is just that he doesn't show up a month later and everyone reads his goodbye letter and are worried he died.

Oh you mean XinXing and her ex? Yes, he never registered their wedding but that is normal in their culture so them having had sex after the wedding ceremony is not abnormal as they were on their honeymoon. And TianYu already knows they had sex. He doesn't care about any of that. The video just shows the state the ex is in now that the couple have gotten married. And we can presume it'll be registered as nothing can dissuade him from marrying XinXing. 😊

That just proves that the emperor is not a just and qualified leader if he was unjustly holding a grudge. Anyway, he didn't want to eat the flower's leaves even before he found out that the emperor is poisoned. Surely there would have been more flowers so he could have been healed as well. He could have made some sort of oath not to claim the throne. But if he had chosen to heal himself, he could have helped so many more people like he wished. Every action of his points to him carrying some kind of guilt and wanting to die or maybe he thought he should have died 10 years ago. That's why it feels heartbreaking to me. I just would have liked to see a proper happy ending rather than an open ending.

There are 2 versions. One where the camera pans out and no one is on the beach implying he's dead. Basically the directors chose an open ending so that the audience can be satisfied by picking any ending that they want. I just don't get why he needed to disappear in the first place. He clearly didn't want to be treated.

I read about the novel ending in which he didn't choose to be treated there either. Guess they didn't want to depict him as ill and frail anymore so they made him vanish. The part that upsets me is him choosing to die in such a manner in both the show and the novel.

I did see that version. It's more of an open ending. I just don't understand why they chose this type of ending though. Surely they can find other flowers to treat him.

But he doesn't need to return as a sect leader. He can still choose to live like a wandering physician and heal so many more people. I don't understand why he didn't want to be cured. He was punishing himself unnecessarily.

The leads are getting married and happy and XinXing's ex is still obsessed with her watching their video together and drinking himself to oblivion. I don't think it means anything more. And he cannot use it because it's not like TianYu didn't know she had sex with her husband. The sister already gave him up. The video was just showing the rock bottom her husband has reached while XinXing gets her happily ever after finally. :)

Ah! I figured out what the ending was about. Or at least this is what I feel it was meant to portray...

I'm depressed after watching that ending. Not even kidding. I had a slight doubt that he gave the flower to the emperor but I thought maybe they are just keeping his recovery for the finale. So with this ending they are saying that essentially he wanted to die and that is heartbreaking. And to think I avoid depressing shows and this came out of nowhere.

How do I recover from this?

Season 1 was better but last three episodes of season 2 were much more exciting. A bit unsure with the introduction of another new character.
