Part 1 was on track to be something good, part 2 started off as a dumpster fire and turned into the core of the…
My guess is that part 1 was filmed prior to the giant covid lockdown they had there, then they had to shut down and resumed with part 2 after the main part of the lockdown was lifted. Sure there could have been a bit of awkwardness trying to jump back into the characters, but that could have easily been dealt with by having a few more workshop sessions to get everyone back into character and back into the grove before resuming filming. There is however, no logical reason for the total disconnect between part 1 and part 2, they feel and look like each individual part was done by a completely different crew, writers, etc. so no it's definitely not just you that's noticed it.
Peat and King had this you could see there was so much hurt but there was also still so much love thing going on in part 1 that really made you want to follow their storyline no matter what mess the rest of the series was. If anything good comes out of this disaster of a series, hopefully it'll be a spinoff with the two of them reprising their characters and continuing off of where they were going with it and retconning the whole deception/cheating bs. Those two really do have amazing chemistry together.
Yeah the whole Kaitoon X Valen mess need not be mentioned. lol
Then there's the totally unnecessary and confusing as hell Toy X June x Bill x Sonya mess. I should probably disclaimer this part with saying I'm gay, male, 40 years old, and not transphobic or anything like that. That being said, I still have no idea what half of those characters are supposed to be gender wise and it confuses the hell out of the storyline, I can't even imagine how younger / less experienced with the community fans are with trying to sort it all out. It feels like they decided to throw it all in as an "okay well we need to keep the elder cast members out of the back half of episodes because of covid so what are we going to do / let's try to appear to be as inclusive as possible and add new characters in for it" without actually knowing what they were doing or going with it.
Part 1 was on track to be something good, part 2 started off as a dumpster fire and turned into the core of the…
I'm going to get slaughtered on here for saying this, but this series is a perfect example of what happens when you have a female author who has a very superficial / romanticized view of how men are together and not having a director with that experience and pull to correct it.
there are so many misunderstandings that the misunderstandings are misunderstanding what the misunderstandings are and like you said, act like adults and communicate. These female BL writers seem to think that all men are completely incapable of ever having a serious conversation, saying their feelings, etc. unless their either tortured or an extremely effemine guy. Luckily the BL genre is evolving to be more inclusive of LGBTQ and getting away from the more traditional form of the genre so hopefully this will stop being the case as it has been in other series.
Personally the whole Peat X King mental illness trying to work through and give their relationship another chance storyline is what I kept watching the series for. The one brilliant thing they had done was set that storyline up and it could have been an amazing thing. It also could have been a greatly needed exposure for relationships dealing with mental illness since so many LGBTQ do deal with depression and other mental illness...but nope, they had to go and ruin it with trope stereotypical bs. There's so much wasted potential with this whole series, but that was definitely one of the worst of the series.
YESSSS, Jeff was my fav in this episode. I couldnt even hate him . 1. hes sexy as hell2. he jusr wanted his ex…
I personally think the writer/directors/editor missed a huge opportunity with Ohm (King) in this episode. His performance during that confrontation scene should have just been a taste of what was to come in the later scene with King and Valen. If they had done it right then he would have rivaled Jeff for best scene of the episode and of the whole series, but yeah Jeff's performance during that confrontation scene was definitely the best of the series.
We got a taste of Jeff and his ruthless side talent during He/She/It but if that and this is any indication of what we're going to get in KinnPorsche then damn it's going to be a wild ride. I definitely agree with you about Jeff being sexy as hell, when they don't ruin it with ten tons of makeup.
And on this week's episode of "Love Area: Part 2 - WTF did I just watch"....
The directors continued their bitter divorce and custody battle over how the series should go
The editor couldn't take hearing the fighting anymore and got so drunk they butchered every scene and puked them out all over the final cut.
and lastly the writer continued their "F%$^ I only wrote this as a short story and still can't figure out what to do beyond part 1 so I'll just blow everything up, throw it against the wall and see what sticks" mission of destroying anything promising this series had going.
Peat X King should have been the redemption / lesson that communication is they key couple you want to root for to make it through their problems.
Kaitoon X Valen should have been the new couple just starting out and making the mistake of not communicating with each other cautionary tale and in the end learning from Peat X King's original mistake.
Sean should have been the "you need to learn when to let go"
Non should have been the underdog you root for that he'll finally find someone that can return his feelings in the end.
June should have been the "unrequited love / sometimes love sucks" tale.
So far we're left with no one to root for, no one you really love to hate, and in the end are left with a jumbled mess and heaping serving of what's the point??
Ohm (King) certainly seems to have the talent and emotional connection to the character that he could have gone into full emotional breakdown mode and really really made you feel his pain, if they really had to break him again, which honestly felt so unnecessary. This was really a missed opportunity to connect the viewers with the character and showcase the talent of the actor who is quite new at this. Again it just shows the complete disconnect between part 1, part 2, and the writer/director/editor with the whole series. It's such a shame because it had so much potential at the start.
This is one of those series where the casting is everything, more so than the writing, directing, and editing. The series "Enchante" for example, sure it's a decent show and all, but the characters really could be played by anyone. The exact opposite can be said for "Not Me", the cast they chose is what makes it work so well and that definitely wouldn't have been the case with other actors.
I honestly don't know of any other working couple besides Off X Gun that could have pulled off that riverfront scene like they did.
The makeup team definitely deserves recognition for the makeup job they did in ep. 10. So often the makeup work in these series are just meh at best, but they really nailed it in this episode.
I just come for the rants!! LMAO! You can just NOT watch it you know….LOL
I think it comes down to two very important things, very much what Tis_I about train wrecks, but also because we know the actors aren't the issue and there's still hope they'll manage a few good scenes despite the writers and directors.
Season 1 had so much potential that they've completely destroyed for season 2, but there are actors, crew, studios, and platforms that do come on MDL and read the comments, etc. so there's always hope they'll take the feedback good and bad and use it to improve.
but when it comes to this series and this season, misery loves company. lol
Well holy shit someone finally remembered to change Wayu's batteries and who knew there's half a personality there after all. lol Now if only they could do something so there was actually some chemistry between Wayu and Thanu.
Too bad the writing and directing needs way way more than just a battery change.
I'm guessing this will be the catalyst for Kit to realize life is too short and he'll stop the whole trial separation thing and not take the study abroad thing now.
Time to finally quit the shit and end the whole Pok x Tong feud thing, they've had soooo little screen time this season and they have so much chemistry together. The writers / directors definitely for this series definitely don't know how to make thee best use of the talent they have and to let that talent drive the story. The whole pa x Wayu thing should have been finished by ep 3 and the focus for the season should have been on Kit X Mark, Pok x Tong, and the Sandee craziness.
Beach filler in the penultimate episode has become somewhat of a trope of Thai BLs and I don't know why. Just…
My guess is it's either to promote travel (possible sponsorship) and/or because it's seen as a romantic getaway. I'm pretty sure I've seen several resorts and Thai tourism sponsors listed for many of the bl series.
Glad we're coming up on the finish line of this series. I'm gonna mark it complete and never look back. haha I'm…
I'm starting to wonder if maybe there's going to be a Love Area: Part 3. Like you said there's still way too many side stories that are just left hanging and need way more time than just one more episode. Part 2 just seems like the second act, like the final episode of it is going to be where the conflict starts and is the setup for going in to part 3. Hell as much as this is a meh show for me, personally I think it would hurt it even more if they finished everything up in the next episode.
Whelp...Valen finally got to eat at his new favorite restaurant after drooling over the menu for way too long.... lol
I noticed in this episode that they've brought more of the cast back in. I wonder if the first few episodes were so sparse because they were filming while still under the stricter lockdown. That would definitely explain part of the issues with the first episodes of part 2, but it's still a mess with directing/editing/writing beyond that.
They should have just scraped the June x Bill x Toy x whomever Bill was staring at in this ep and spent the time between Valen x Kaitoon and King x Peat. Having Sean pop back up for no real apparent reason seemed off, but maybe they're going to finally work the Nont storyline to where Nont x Sean become a thing so he can finally stop chasing after Kaitoon.
This feels like there's way too much to get done in one more episode, it makes me wonder if there's going to be a part 3.
Drake ruled ep. 16 no question about it. Hopefully now he'll get more lead roles and not just the goofy sidekick all the time, which he does do amazingly well but overall he's so talented.
Hahaa you're definitely on point with this!I have one question is June a girl or a boy? lol. Why is there a 3rd…
I've been wondering the same thing about June, my guess is androgynous male.
I really wish they had just focused on King X Peat and Kaitoon X Valen for the series and especially part 2.
King X Peat definitely need more screen time than what they're getting. The actors themselves are great together, but with Peat's mental illness that side story / side couple really needs the focus. I personally wouldn't mind seeing them continue their characters in a spin off series.
Valen has gone from this clueless, shy thing to that little dog that always wants to hump your leg. lol There is no cold shower cold enough to cure that one...but it doesn't help there's been enough sly smirks in ep 4 to know Kaitoon knows it, and probably is just about wanting it as bad.
The thing that really annoys me about ep 4 is this whole disconnect in the quality of the direction. The first half of the episode it was like they were just reading lines off the script, then the back half was like it was a completely different director and the actors were so much more natural and engaged. The other thing is all of the unnecessary side characters / scenes / fluff filler. The whole June x Toy x Bill thing adds nothing, what was even the point of the scene with their father showing up at the restaurant, what happened to Nisa being away for a bit, and what happened to 3/4 of the cast?
Ok I’m legit bit confused now after watching epi 13, only ‘cos I can’t recall some of the twists and turns…
There was the scene with Tin and Fight going to Mim's apartment after they got the call that someone had broken in. They were checking the boxes hidden under the bed and the one box was empty. That's the one where the ledger and hard drive were stored.
As specified in Article 279 of the Thai Penal Code, the age of consent in Thailand is 15 years old, regardless…
FINALLY someone else with the commonsense to actually look into the laws, customs, etc. of a country / culture different from their own instead of instantly making a baseless accusation.
There's never been any indication that they were trying to take it anywhere sexual with the character, if anything maybe a schoolboy crush, which isn't that uncommon for someone ice's age to have towards someone older.
So far this is like two writers that are married wrote it, got a divorce and each writer got a separate part in the divorce. Love Area Part 1 is definitely the superior part so far.
And for that matter, WTF did they do to Kaitoon's personality in part 2?? At least in part 1 he had some personality and wasn't nearly this clueless to what going on around him. If you also watch Gen Y 2 you'll understand this reference..... mix 1 part Wayu to 1 part Kaitoon and you'd get almost half a personality. lol
Peat and King had this you could see there was so much hurt but there was also still so much love thing going on in part 1 that really made you want to follow their storyline no matter what mess the rest of the series was. If anything good comes out of this disaster of a series, hopefully it'll be a spinoff with the two of them reprising their characters and continuing off of where they were going with it and retconning the whole deception/cheating bs. but yeah this series is starting to come in a close second.
The directors continued their bitter divorce and custody battle over how the series should go
