Forget playing a romantic couple, its weird they decided to continue to let Book be a lead character at all. And…
Now see I didn't know about Book having been in a boy band before, so yeah he definitely should have felt more comfortable in front of the camera than Force. That just makes me think even more that his issue was the pairing with Force and trying to pretend to have romantic feelings for his real life friend.
and it's not like Book is just one of those people that doesn't outwardly express emotions, we saw on Safe House that he does.
Force did, especially when acting with the other cast, but when it comes to the Akk x Theo relationship Book seemed…
Casting brand new actors as the main leads is always a "sink or swim" thing, Force swam, Book sank. They definitely should have given him at least one supporting role first before throwing him in the deep end, but I do agree I think there's potential for him to get better as an actor, but don't think he should be paired with Force in a BL again.
The list of things wrong with this series is definitely longer than the list of things they got right. They should have known back during the workshops that Force and Book couldn't move past their real life friendship and have the chemistry portraying a romantic couple.
The Baker Boys tie-in made absolutely no sense, the father has two families and two separate careers for decades, like really?! They tried to press the French theme way too hard in this.
Bad casting and bad writing really brings this down, which is a shame because it could have been a good series.
Hell Jimmy came in as Sun in the last couple of episodes and showed more emotion about their relationship than Book did throughout the entire series. Sometimes casting new actors as the main leads works perfectly and sometimes like with this it totally flops.
Did Force and Books acting improve? Because they sucked so badly i had to drop this trainwreck after episode 2.
Force did, especially when acting with the other cast, but when it comes to the Akk x Theo relationship Book seemed uncomfortable and like he was just reading the lines throughout.
Please don't let her be one of those parents that ruin their child's happiness because of their own small mindedness. Let her be shocked, let her be mad they didn't tell her, but not one of those.
Don't you wonder if Q-Tips sponsor these shows. I've never seen so many minor injuries as in BL.
I just started watching BL series about a year ago as well after a series of heart attacks had me laid up on the couch on top of all the other medical issues I have and couldn't find any good USA shows to watch (I live in New York).
quickly got addicted to them and not being familiar with the country, culture, etc. I would constantly pause the episode I was watching and research the hell out of whatever caught my curiosity and trying to discern the difference between what was in the show and reality.
I know you said don't get you started about the head patting and food as sign of love thing, but those are definitely a cultural thing.
As far as Disney is concerned, it doesn't surprise me one bit that they push as much of the LGBT stuff either off to HULU or keep it down as much as possible. Like so much of what they do it's all about the money. They trickle LGBT stuff here and there and do just enough to get after the LGBT and their money, then turn around and pretend like they love the community when someone calls them out on it, rinse and repeat.
Don't you wonder if Q-Tips sponsor these shows. I've never seen so many minor injuries as in BL.
I'm trying to remember if TharnType was one of the ones that used Dengue fever or not, I know a few of the series have.
As far as love Victor, Michael's speech at the wrap party was freaking awesome.
With the way Disney has handled Love Victor right from the start I don't see them dong another full on LGBT series for awhile.
Oh and back on the whole bl trope thing, the hurt leg/ankle one. It's usually either the star athlete or the poorer characters that get hurt. The star athlete one makes sense because of just trying to hard, etc. I just saw a medical video a couple of weeks ago about humans drinking dairy milk, etc. it turns out over 90% of Eastern Asians are lactose intolerant, so before all the lactose free and alt milks there was a lot of calcium deficiencies, hence the easily injured joints, etc.
Don't you wonder if Q-Tips sponsor these shows. I've never seen so many minor injuries as in BL.
Bad Buddy got it right because while the writer is a female, she had Aof to keep it grounded and realistic.
Most of the BL genre is written by women who either have no experience with how men really interact, etc. with each other or still write in the fantasized way.
Don't you wonder if Q-Tips sponsor these shows. I've never seen so many minor injuries as in BL.
I have a theory on the "fever" thing you mentioned. I think what they may be referring to in that case isn't a fever like what you get when you're sick, but instead heat sickness. With the temps there that's totally plausible and would make sense why it's just a one day type thing. I actually don't mind the whole fever one, I just look at it like it's heat sickness and of all the bl tropes it really is the least annoying one and some of the scenes have been done well.
I'm thinking/hoping KinnPorsche is going to be like Bad Buddy, where they either didn't have any of the BL trope trash or they straight up made fun of it.
Outside of the BL industry LGBT series never seem to last long, really we have what "Young Royals" whenever the new season is coming out and "Love, Victor" that Disney shoved to the Hulu sidelines and is canceling after this new season. Luckily the BL Industry is evolving to be more realistic LGBT and more than willing to fill the void.
I completely understand where Anda's coming from, after all his whole life he's been told the work comes first, the fans come first.....but I still want to smack the stupid outta him. lol
I figure there's three ways it could end...
1) Anda and Ryo don't reconcile, Ryo's career bounces back and Anda remains a fan
2) They don't reconcile, Ryo's career continues on and they get back together years later after the work is gone.
3) Anda realizes that their love is more important than what some small minded people think, they end up together, make it fully public and Ryo's career becomes bigger and better than ever...probably getting bl roles and other parts of the industry that want more inclusion.
I think it's a case of them thinking because they are such close friends in real life that pairing them together…
I'm on the opposite side on that one, Ii think we'll see Force in another BL eventually with a different partner, Book on the other hand I think they'll keep him to straight or bromance roles. I'm not sure if it's the pairing with Force because they've been friends for so long or that BL just ended up not being his thing but he always looks so uncomfortable in the bl scenes.
I think it's a case of them thinking because they are such close friends in real life that pairing them together…
I wouldn't be surprised if their bl pairing ends up being a one and done, Book definitely needs more time with acting coaches, and Force I think will naturally get better in whatever his next project is as long as it's not another BL with Book.
Don't you wonder if Q-Tips sponsor these shows. I've never seen so many minor injuries as in BL.
Oh I definitely agree, these BL writers need to learn to take more risks / be creative and then fight back about it when the sponsors, etc. demand the same old thing.
I don't get it. I felt the chemistry between them more when they were best friends. What happened?
I think it's a case of them thinking because they are such close friends in real life that pairing them together would automatically give them this awesome chemistry together.
Instead what we get is the two of them looking extremely awkward and uncomfortable whenever it's any more than the friends scenes.
When you spend 1hr 30 minutes asking yourself every second "What the f$#k am I watching??!!" and yet you're glued to the show you know they did something right. lol
It's completely absurd and definitely not the typical type of show I prefer to watch, but there's something in the chemistry and interactions between the two male leads that makes me want to keep watching.
I'm pretty sure I already figured out where the plot is going.
Don't you wonder if Q-Tips sponsor these shows. I've never seen so many minor injuries as in BL.
From what I've noticed, the BL genre is splitting and evolving, on one hand you have the "traditional" BL fans (ie. girls fantasizing about male couples) and on the other hand you have the increasingly more accepted LGBT community becoming fans of BL. The problem is the genre is still dominated by the Traditional BL genre fans so sponsors, etc. want them to be catered to guarantee success so many stick to the same cliche checklist of thing. The whole minor injury plot point is seen as a moment of closeness, tenderness, and "cuteness" by many of the fans so they keep using it.
I also did some digging on the internet a couple of months ago because I was curious as to if there was any other reason why it's used so much in BL series. It turns out that Eastern Asians are more susceptible to infections and cancers caused by infections so that might play a part in it as well.
So far this series is everything I had hoped Bite Me was going to be.
They way they're handling LukChub in this series is exactly how an easily shy, timid, not confident male character should be done. Most series never get this type of character right and end up making them extremely feminine to excuse it.
The best way to sum up this whole series, started off meh but interesting in the beginning, polished the turd so much it could have been sued for causing blindness, and then ended up right back at meh for the finale.
I have to believe they either have a season 2 planned or a spin off series that continues the Dome X Vee storyline with those two actors because otherwise it's such a total waste of their chemistry together. The chemistry they had together is rare enough in main lead pairings, in a side couple like this it's almost unheard of.
Thorn and Fah never left the awkward just met this person / new friendship zone / reading lines off the page chemistry wise.
Overall not the worst series I've seen, but definitely doesn't make it on the "I'd watch it again" list.

Personally I'm hoping for the third one.
