My theory is there a time travel element to the flute that neither Yi Gon or Yi Rim have unlocked yet. However, because Yi Gon is a mathematician he will figure it out way before his uncle does.

Well I've seen a few shows with "sort of" happily ever afters. It's not exactly what we'd want but it's as close to a happy ending as possible.

But if you look at the build of the person who saved little Yi Gon it's clearly a man. The way I figure, Tae Eul is the key to getting everyone Yi Gon needs to defeat his uncle. Therefore, Yi Gon needed to bring her into his world. So adult Yi Gon or Adult Jo Yeong takes the pass back into the past and makes sure it gets to the little prince.

And honeymooned in his kingdom in separate rooms like the 1950s haha
