Summary for all comments: Basically you might like it or not, depends on your comedic taste (do you like slapstick?)
(or honestly just your taste itself haha)
whether from the plot or characters themselves.
Progression: Slow to Fast Most enjoyable character for most: Jang Jun-Woo
Usually people like the middle-ish few episodes the most (So, 8-16 ish) The start (1-4) does background set-up and the end is a bit of bittersweet ending. Also not suitable for those who want no romance or all romance. Is a slow-burn, so no crazy antics.
From all comments, gets a 7.5/10 (I'm not using the MDL rating system here).
People like the most: Dark Main Character, Action, Styling, Certain Characters, Corruption Themes
Biggest Points of Contention: Comedy, Unrealism, Pacing, Certain Plotholes
Just don't come in if you want super serious action-packed stuff thats all dark and gritty, there are certain elements but not all. And if you come in for comedy it's sometimes surface level sometimes deeper, but it's not throughout. If you want all violence, no. But if you can't stand violence, no. If you don't like an expressive female lead with slapstick humor, no. (For those after action check out the recent My Name)
But please just understand the show before going in and all that. I can't say you can label it as good or bad and so on, but there seems to be huge rating disparities in the comments and I think that's because it caters to a certain sort of taste mix.
As Novoland: Pearl Eclipse has just come out, I thought back to the Long Ballad. Though I ended up dropping it, I just wanted to add that I thought that Ashina Sun's personality is very different to previous leads, and genuinely interesting to see two leads' communication and personalities, which was less common a dynamic (other than the tropes).
The singers of OST of opening and ending are the same with long ballad. Yeah at 11-12 episode the FL said their…
Yeah, Zhang Bichen and Zhou Shen are always great in their delivery no matter the OST, but they don't decide what to sing lol.
Though CDrama Historical OSTS are usually more drifty/sad with traditional percussion, there usually is still some sort of catchy memorable beat along the start, while this one just seems to start and the end along the same lines.
I’m so glad they finally explained the connection between the emperor and the shifu. 😂 am I the only one…
Haven't read the book-but as far as I know her Shifu pushes her away to the emperor, not because the emperor likes her. I think the emperor eventually falls in love with Ti Lan? Not liking that line of relationships because it's kinda about the emperor's issues. He's an interesting character but should not have a relationship with her especially all he does currently is utilize his control as an emperor to be bitter to her and not because it's her fault.
-In episode 1 I was completely holding my breath on how they're going to show the romance development because it was so weird to me in the start, I hope it would be logically and clearly outlined. Usually shows blur the edges and it makes it iffy- I currently like how it's one-sided and how Fang Zhu never saw her as anything but his disciple so far, and how (from the teaser for 13,14) she talks about how their age difference is so big, but as a kid, an age gap seemed huge and as she grew older it was less obvious. (I think it obviously helps the actors look quite the same age because they do).
Speaking of which I think Fang Zhu probably just ended up being mature for his age (I think they said he won a battle/made some crazy plan at just 17, what)
I also used to kind of just look at romances through 'plot hole, character inconsistency, trope, trope, trope', and so I never realized different characters had different personalities if you know what I mean. There are different reasons why different characters are stoic or act a certain way (such as the very common personality trait of being very defensive of loved ones) and as long as the acting can hold it up you can really see it.
I genuinely cannot figure out why I like this show-I think it's been a while since a historical with a plot I'm a bit interested in (excluding romance) to come out. I haven't looked at CDramas for a while, and there's no Yang Mi historical that is terrible, so.
*Ah, I do think this drama is lacking a bit in the OST department. The Long Ballad's OST was alright-memorable for me. Some examples of OSTS I completely remember and like still are: Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms Legend of Fuyao Story of Yanxi Palace Goodbye My Princess
It's not a bad OST, just not memorable in terms of the hook
It's very popular in china right now 😁. It's rated rank 3 this week on rating drama in china as an opening…
The uh, Oath of Love isn't out yet haha. I think you can feel the popularity being much less. It's Yang Mi, not going to be horrible, but I think it's not even as hot as The Long Ballad from earlier this year (in terms of historical fantasy/famous female lead).
Anyways, I'm sure it's doing okay, but people may have anticipated it to be better. Historical fantasies or just fantasticals this year have not on par with last year's popularity of these dramas (e.g. Love and Redemption).
If you are rating this drama anything less than 8 then you are not really watching the drama you are just here…
That is not even logical. MDL usually rates everything way too high. 8 is a very good score in my opinion, but I don't see why people have to skew to MDL standards in rating. I do think people can rate a show badly and drop it, based on what they've seen. I they haven't watched it or they continue despite disliking it, their problem. But why can't they rate it anything less.
I was wondering about this for a while after seeing a comment but it's true-the leads don't seem to have anything in common. But then their chemistry was pretty great and they seemed to be a good couple. SO why? I have no idea. But that is definitely a real loophole. When do they ever talk about things in common? I see how they can be drawn to each other's personalities and their love for photos/nice scenery be something, but-yeah.
SHK's clothing is pretty nice here, it suits her. I like her a lot more without bangs too and haven't seen her with long hair for a while.
I gotta say that the set-up for this drama reminds me heavily of another drama, but I can't pinpoint my finger on it (I mean by characters and their motivations and the workplace aura, not accusing the show). I think this will probably be a pretty average drama that may or may not be enjoyable. I am worried that it might drag in the middle. Anyways, the acting is acceptable and I have not seen JKY in anything else but he's doing fine. I agree with everyone, the french is-I speak no french at all but the hard clippings and flow sound unnatural, but as many Chinese and Korean dramas have had the 'french problem' I'm used to it. I think they tend to do better with Spanish regardless of which show. I like to pretend they speak mermaidian.
(I have to say, that their acting is within my comfort zone with watching dramas, because lets be honest, many fluff dramas don't have great actors, the acting could be better, but it's not horrible. I think another problem is that though by the end of the episode I super understand their personalities and attitudes to life a lot of the dialogue is very dialogue-like, as in you can tell its the script they've memorized and not stuff they're thinking of at the moment. Unlike other comments, I don't feel like SHK plays a similar character-I think the outer surface might be similar and her Encounter character might get along with her's here, but in their attitudes, it's clearly different. I also think this could be the fact her acting isn't very detailed. I also like to believe that you need to be a good actor for even fluff romance dramas; though those dramas are ideals you have to make audiences believe in such characters. I know this one isn't a fluff romance but you know, same appliance. BUT one thing is that SHK usually plays more stoic characters the way I see it (or unexpressive?). Maybe it's her later work-I don't know her earlier works but nowadays my image of the actress itself is pretty similar from press conferences and other stuff, etc. So I suppose the focus is really on how they're together and the way they address love and relationships, I guess it's how they get past that or how they can't (Because they're breaking up?)
BUT I have to say-this is just an interesting pairing, as they don't seem to have very similar personalities. I can see how they could grow to love each other and work out the differences in how they do things (plus they have mutual respect/love for art and each other's attitude towards their professions).
Even though they both are kind of nonchalant about love, I think JKY's is also accompanied by his carefree persona while SHK's character is a lot more focused on work and doing stuff. I can't currently tell who's in a state of nonchalance and escapism at the fullest but they are going to have some interesting conversations for sure.
I like how the intimate scenes are paired well with the cinematography and just overall sensual.
Here's my question: At the end of the episode, I'm confused about JKY's attitude when he saw her at the elevator--because if he's the one who slept with her, did he not think she was a hypocrite if she 'cheated' on her boyfriend when he did as well? Plus the reveal in the end-so you're telling me two native Koreans spoke French to each other? I totally thought it was a french dude.
But apart from that, it's a pretty interesting episode. I'll continue watching.
In the contrary, I really like him ! And this is the first William's drama I watch😁Maybe Im more into cold,…
They actually are on Douban right now, don't know about foreign fans-but that was literally the HUGEST point of contention when the trailers and posters came out-people asking about how many wigs there were and why anyone thought it would look nice. Seriously makes him look like he's hunching and makes his face look a lot fatter.
Coming back to YAMG after a few months. I have to say, I'm very particular about my ratings scale and I constantly adjust it. Within my hesitance to downgrade my score of YAMG- it is true that the drama was separated into many parts where it seemed like three different periods, and the gaming really wasn't interesting to me and knowing that something else was going to happen soon made it a lot more watchable. The leads had great chemistry and looked great, with overall great representation of both of their work and also of a different age range in life (plus their worries).
Still, though, mostly flat. For a drama like this, I think I would normally give this an 8.0 instead of a 9.0 but at the same time it was a great show for the romance genre in Cdramaland, so I think it should be a prime example for more and better romance dramas.
In no way was this legendary of any sort, and was supposed to just be half-slice-of-life, romance, and work-and I think dramas all have a rating based on each genre type. Still, though-
Some sources said that sex scene in this series wasn't in a contract and director put it sudennly. It consider…
Her agency said that it was discussed in the contract-where in the interview she mentioned she didn't know it she really meant se didn't know how to execute it well/align with character.
Of course, you can take it as the agency covering up too if that's what you think it is.
Why do they always make a competent and smart cop with a strong sense of justice suddenly become too emotional…
There are definitely certain unexplainable plot points that don't make sense, not only what you mentioned, haha. I felt confused there were no consequences too, but overall I kind of took a lot of the setting and character groups, like the police, as plot tools, but they don't seem like it because they are made to be human with emotion. I think that's what a good show does, honestly. People complain about plot tools a lot and everything is actually a plot tool, but if you don't notice it then it's done well. Definitely not groundbreaking. But it had a great flow and just an amalgamation of production aspects I loved. Been a good while since we've seen some really cool choreography too. But it's a totally fun watch!
Zhang Bichen, Zhou Shen, Mao Buyi, Liu Yunni8ng always sing so well and have great tracks.
I also want to add Zhang Jie (Jason Zhang), who's great-probably most famous for the title track of ten miles of peach blossoms.
Novoland: PE is still coming out haha, so no, haven't dropped it yet

I agree with the user below that imdB is usually a good average.
Overall popularity of every drama has declined, and number 1 view numbers are also much less, so the overall popularity of shows are much lower.
Little bit overhyped, but still very good.
Haven't watched it, but people recommend 'The Advisors's Alliance'.
