tbh from Wesetrn standards it’s one of the series Netflix for example would put +16, for explicit sex, mature jokes and some violence, but not 18. It doesn’t fully relies on explicit sexual scenes and it isn’t gory enough, I think shows like Elite who are even more explicit are +16. for the same reasons. +18 is usually for things too heavy to handle

And I HATE when they add the word romantization. I hate it bc for them bc it shows their lack of knowledge on some of those situations. Yes, not all S.A happens in traumatic setting and horror music, that doesn’t make it less SA for you to say it’s romantization. Yes, not all cheaters have this secret guilt of cheating and they can fully embrase their love for another partner. Those men are in what looks like forced/arranged relationships to begin with so they don’t even feel strong feelings for their partner. That doesn’t make it less cheating and it doesn’t mean it’s romantized, like ppl be using this word everytime they think a situation looks not traumatic enough or bc other people don’t gay, if they could focus on the story instead of ppl’s opinion it would be much better for them

Don’t worry, people also started shading Apo on Twitter for saying the same and mind you before saying Shine wasn’t a BL he was congratulating the Thai BL genre and KP for hitting in the US (since he was in an event there). I feel like the advertisement worked bc people are looking at it from another perspective and I love it, sure most people who comme here are from BL back group, also from the Thai side it seems like more diverse type of people watched it, not just BL watchers. But the show evolve in a d’instinctive way with specific themes that I believe won’t classify it in the BL genre, like there are so many things already that a BL wouldn’t have cared to show that appeared here

ok so for BL: I see 2 options usually. First, the case where no one cares abt sexuality, like so many BL have the guys hanging out together and eventually developing feelings, quickly I can think of the Heart Killers, even the guys exes were men and no one has an issue with dating the same sex, it’s like a norm, totally ok and never a part of an actual convo. This is the reason why many of us started BLs, me personality I loved the thought of a genre that would just allow queer people to exist freely without it being such a big deal compared to heterosexuals. But with time in the genre I tend to end up graving for stories that also share part of the queer experience, like it’s good once in a while to see that the genre don’t forget to deal with queer awakening or struggles. Then we have a second option, aka one of the guy being more bisexual/pan, involved with the opposite gender in the past. I think that sometimes it’s used as a plot devise for the « not every man but you trope », a way to make the other guy special. And also bc bi exists and it’s great to have different forms of queer couples. Tho I realized médias always make bi men date men and bi women date women, like I never saw a bi guy end up with a woman but maybe I didn’t dig enough.

Now, I think they said for Shine that they wouldn’t follow a BL road. I’ll say that the hippie setting and identity of one of the character makes him free spirited so he hook up with anyone regardless of the gender. For Trin, his bisexuality is a way to have his queer awakening. As for the other characters, it seems established that one is 100% gay and the other might be as well

The beach really stole the spotlight for me, like it was so beautiful, emotional, mature and tender, I fear no LerRan scene hit like that so far. People just judge fastly, I too had my struggles with TrinTanwa but I’m more interesting in their characters (at least Trin) so I was just being critical, you won’t catch me saying the others are more interesting bc *check notes* they have more tension or chemistry, bc both relationships developped in 2 different ways and I think someone who genuinely act like the only interesting thing of Shine is the second couple kinda lacks some critical lense, or is searching for romance and so far only found it in LertRan for some reasons

I feel like his acting still appears the weakest to me I can’t explain why, I feel like the storyline conveys the emotions of his character more than his acting directly, but we’ll see he might surprise me. It’s true that they really explored their relationship through sex, but I think we could still see them enjoying their time together. I think being in their secret relationship where they do see do all the time and are each little dirty secret raise their libido when they see each other🤣

me lowkey, they’re cute but I’ll be honest I’m not that into them at all,plus dare I say Son acting is a bit stiff? I feel like he doesn’t look natural in love, whether it was for his flashbacks or with Naran but let’s see

Edit: Im most likely talking abt Son chemistry with the male partner in portraying romantic feelings, I have no issue with his acting outside of it, he plays a character who doesn’t portray a lot of emotion from the outside perfectly

I think next ep will truthly be the point to determine who’s stealing the spotlight but LertRan NC scenes looks…fast and BL coded, idk how to explain but they are just so efficient with their moves and go perfectly, I think TrinTanwa will move slower, more sensually and well let’s see how this goes but I think the vibe TT are supposed to bring will have a more…romantic atmosphere? We’ll see tho, i just feel like both couples are different, and you’ll find in TT something you won’t find with LertRan, starting with that beautiful beach scene

My feelings after this ep, while his move had a strong meaning, it puts Dao in a very unconfortable situation and I hate that for her, atm he didn’t think abt how it would affect her in front of her parents and it sucks

They had novels, so people were already on the page bc they were hyped abt the og material getting adapted, plus they also have pilot trailer. Shine was basically promoted as a new MileApo serie and with no pilot, 1 line summery that leaves sm options for plot so obviously people were not going there as much. I know that for popular series it translates into MDL views but I wonder how it goes for shows like this, for example pretty sure more people watched Squid Game s3 than KinnPorsche yet KP still has more views rn, so ofc time plays a big role but also like the audience for SG is even bigger and it doesn’t translate there. My Magic Prophecy isn’t talked abt that much I see, worse for Memori of Rati bc it’s not the type of shows GMM fans watch

1. I don't know why you rely on trends sm to highlight a show success. Trends are based on how much pairing fandoms engage and it's true that they have less fans willing to stay up late at night to trend, by you see series like Reset or Revenged Love who didn't even trend and still managed to get talked abt, and Shine really opens many discussions expecially on Twitter that are very engaging and in which everyone participate. When they chose this time period and this tome of story they knew that it wouldn't just for any time of BL watcher, so Shine needs and is reaching its demographic properly. If rhey wantes a hit they would have adapted a popular BL novel and moved

2. They are actors, I don't think they do a show based on how much it "hits" or not, and if it's their last project it has more to do with life and career rather thatcpopularity, you see that if doing BL was the only thing they wanted to do they would have done one instead of Mansuang in 2023

Those are my thoughts as well, bc initially with the trailer I thought Tanwa would be the one conflicting his thoughts, but turned out Trin is also heavenly thinking by himself, and the one who confronts him for the better is Victor, not Tanwa. Tanwa gives him this freedom vibe, that won’t be needed at all when things will get touchy on the politics aspect of the show. I feel like Trin is a pretty tolerate person as well, so someone like Tanwa wouldn’t repulse him, actually his friend is also in Tanwa spaces, and he also has this kind of idgaf attitude so I don’t see what makes TAnwa special. My take is that maybe the kiss awakened his bisexuality and atm his brain and heart hinted him toward TAnwa since things started with him, or 2nd Tanwa has a natural charm and aura that would have made him fall in love without any proper explanation, I just feel like this isn’t the feeling we get as viewers but I think second option explain his initial attraction to him and then will to enter his space and world. Then they learn more abt each other and fall even harder, also sexual attraction.
