Tell it to the OG comment who literally said that Koreans would be pissy if they turned a bad king into a good one - which indeed has happened and there were 0 conseqences.

Trust me, I hate to talk about my PhD but you were the one to say such absurd thing that Koreans would immediatly lash out if someone touched their history and changed it - I corrected you, now you are saying, "Oh no, I did not mean it that way". Yes, you did. It is not hard to step back and say, "Oh, I was wrong, sorry". Plus, I am not angry, but the opposite - I am totally amused by your ignorance.

Also, to dig deeper into something that you started, Injo was never a cultural or national symbol of Joseon, so ehm, what? Also, jin here, in this case was portrayed as a comical character, same as Yeonsangun. Also, calling Yeonsangun as not an influential figure and branding him as a royal food taster only - sorry, I have to laugh.

Respectfully, do not lecture me about Korean history and most importantly Joseon, when I put my blood, sweat and tears to obtain my PhD from it, and wrote multiple thesis on the topic of Yi family, okay? You have 0 clue about the impact the Yeonsangun era had on actual Korean nation. You also have 0 clue about how Korean culture works, and how fickle it is. The true reason why the drama did not flop is in the actors themselves. Yuna is extremely popular, so had whole fandom backing her up, plus if you know the insider info, you would know that they changed names to not get cancelled, but even then the plot follows extremely thin line between distortion. Academic people, like myself, are actually furious with the drama, so, once again, you are wrong.
i think the problem was that they used the origin story of the actual devil in Islam and copied Quran verses.…
They never mentioned the verses and of course, jin is a devil in islam, but so what? Heck, we got Lucifer from christianism and no one cared and remember, he was romanticized just like jin here. It is a known fact that islam is the most offended religion there is and we got the French massacre (Charlie Hebdo) as the most recent proof of that.
I think the drama answered all your concerns, though? They wanted to show that a being - genie - is universal and…
As I said, he is a universal being. The Koreanism - if we can call it that - I honestly, do not see it. By Korean standards, he still very much stands out, and is considered a weirdo. Why the nose rubbing? From the past we can see that he was occupying UAE the most, thus, he picked on the cultural perks from the said land, but still, he is a being of no-land as where he originally comes from? From Hell and previously somewhere in between, so to call him out on being "not Arabic enough" is wrong in my eyes, since he isn't from Arabia.
Think of it with different mythical beings - vampires. Vampires are of different races in the vampire lore. They speak different languages as well. They do not have a specific culture or specific country they belong to and same goes with genie. Just because Alladin was popular, doesn't mean that every other genie should be of Arabic or Persian origins. Same like vamps - we don't have only Romanian vamps.

That sentence can be understood in different ways - it doesn't directly say that it shall stay forever the same, but that simply he chose a look that is popular. Song's cameo even further confirmed it as she literally said that she choose the most popular face from Netflix. He also acted ''weird'' towards the village head, and it was explained that it was a greeting from UAE. Also, about the appearances, isn't it perspective once again? The companion was giddy about his ''new'' face, but we never once saw the probably super handsome face he picked, so we can assume, that the faces do change. Heck, even the Grim Reaper changed his appearance when showing FL the past. This further confirms that indeed, all the appearances change. The weak Arabic - well, they could have paid an actual native person to dub over, but overall, we cannot say that he didn't speak it, because he indeed did, and like I said previously, he absolutely does know all languages on this planet.
The whole Arabic mythology thing in this drama makes zero sense. It’s supposed to be Arabic mythology, yet every…
I think the drama answered all your concerns, though? They wanted to show that a being - genie - is universal and knows no race, no language. The genie appears different to every person, even the genie's companion. Also, the genie did speak Arabic and basically, all languages that exist in this world. This was pointed out multiple times throughout the drama, even with the genie cameo's appearance.
Religions won't divide people. Ignorant people who doesn't want any kind of accountability do.
Yes, they do divide people, as even the people from the same religion cannot find middle or samr ground :D everyone interprets their version of holy book to fit their beliefs. you can see it mostly with abortion talks or LGB talks. Sooooo repeat your statement again.
I am a Buddhist, dont speak for me or others, only speak for yourself.
I never did any of those things, Rehad. Is it so hard to speak for yourself? Trust me, there are muslims, christians, buddhists and other people of other religions that find this drama okay. Let them be. And before you start, no, you do NOT let them be. You keep replying to ppl who actually enjoyed this show and belittle their honest opinions. You dont like the show? Fine, but respect the people who do. I not once came at you and belittled your opinion, so start applying the word "respect" yourself, firstly.
i think you copy-pasted it to a wrong person lol
FL turned into a genie as well, so both ML and FL are working as genies.
The leads end up together :)
They did that.
Bon Appetite Your Majesty turned a whole tyrant into a romantic and food loving guy and the whole nation absolutely loved it.
