That kid is cannon fodder when he's in a historical with Lu Si, haha! He did the same trick to us in WRTW!
The prophecy foretold π "When Yu Ning and Lu Si fall in love, a child, a young boy, who considers her his sister and found family, must be sacrificed"
Ep7 I'm trying very hard to not look at this Shrimp boy because I've never seen a character with the words "cannon fodder" so clearly written on their head before. If he doesn't die I'll eat a whole fried chicken by myself π
As soon as the Crown Prince died and as the Xiyan Prince went back, the foreshadowing of the war should have started.…
It wouldn't have been an issue if the plot was speeding ahead like the first few episodes but after they slowed everything down for "is everything alright with the Xiyan nobles?"; "love on the farm" and then "me and my dead wife" plots, there was no reason for the characters to be so lifeless and unreal. They had enough time to flesh everybody out! Nobody had real reactions to anything and then the plot itself went in and out of random scenarios. Like why make Conc Yan fall in love, get pregnant and die? It did nothing for the story and had zero impact on the overall plot or any of the characters. It was a political marriage and her death did not impact politicsπ€·ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈ

Mei Lin wasn't a real person. Remember how she was somewhat robotic with the tributes in the beginning: she wasn't pretending! She was supposed to be mentally/emotionally/psychologicaly unavailable till she was in assassin mode. When he gave her hope to live on after her revenge she started reverting to her past self and being "alive" but the switch up was too neat, so it made her seem unreal. The same thing happened in "Are You The One": the fl had lived her life as a fake identity, she got her memories back and BAMM!!! she went back to her old personality. I personally feel it's a failing from the actresses(along with the writers and directors); they are not strong enough to show that duality/conflict the character is going through. So the character feels false and its had to relate/empathise with them.
They wasted too may minutes and episodes on non-productive and weird plots
I've finally finished π It was wonderful. As a Park Shin Hye fan, I'm in ecstasy. She was exceptionally good. She absolutely shined in this role. First time I'm actually truly enjoying a Kim Jae Young performanceππ. All the actors did a great job. Absolutely fabulous. Storytelling, visual effects, thrill and suspense- all perfect. The individual stories of her trials were engaging in themselves. No character or cameo was wasted or redundant. Everything that happened and everyone that wqs shone was relevant to the story. If I have any complaints, it's that it honestly spooked me: added a little chill to my bones. Since that's what they were going for, it's a plus and not a minus. I'm just not a fan of being scared. Final rating: 9.0 Highly recommend.
Seeing how much Park Shin Hye is in her element playing Kang Bitna/Justitia, how has she spent her whole career playing the victim. Feels like a waste of talent. I hope she goes into her Villain Era π

I'm honestly ashamed of myself because some people had started hating in the late teen episodes and I was indignant. Now I find out that apparently I'm shortsighted! How can a show with such wonderful premise, casting and set up, descend so rapidly into... like a wattpad fanfic melodrama romance.
I'm finally done. My rating went from 9.0 to 9.5 to 8.5 to 7.5, and now I'm done I'm leaving it at 8.0; because…
As soon as the Crown Prince died and as the Xiyan Prince went back, the foreshadowing of the war should have started. Instead of fully expending the run time on unrequited love of people that have spent 20 episode falling in love, dating and being married; they should have used that time to lay the ground work and better flesh out for the war. Rather than it being a side plot to the "Mei Lin is STILL dying" story arc, the upcoming war should have been the main final arc. (May be it was but I was skipping and speed watching, so I may have missed it) I appreciated Mei Lin dying, I would have been fine if she died before they got married and lived some days together. Her "dying" was dragged on for far too long to not have that pay out. Their love story was so dragged out and melodramatic, I have slight eye damage from rolling my eyes so much. I started this drama for some "toxic romance"; so against my own sense of disgust, I started missing the Crown Prince and General Yinππ.
I'm finally done. My rating went from 9.0 to 9.5 to 8.5 to 7.5, and now I'm done I'm leaving it at 8.0; because of the first 20 episodes and final 2. If they had cut out Ep 24-29 the drama would have been a solid 9.0.

I'm forcing myself to finish by watching at 2x but I caught myself trying to increase the speed. Now I'm just skipping scenes! Wow! This is really bad! Surprisingly so!

Prince Heir just found some weirdo and started killing people! The High Priestess just dies- no build up or fallout! The town is revived in a month?! Conc Yan's falling in love, pregnancy and death?! So random
From Ep 24, this show is almost unwatchable! Did they fire the screenwriter and director or something? And had to write new material for the final 3rd of the drama? Everything happening doesn't follow any kind of logic or storytelling progression.
Duan Wu really said "I'm not stuck here with you! You're stuck here with me" π€£π€£π€£
