I think the name should have been "The Bathing Fake"... 😂

Yeah, that's what annoys me so much about script-writers (not just on this drama, but in general). I wouldn't mind if they change a few events of the story here or there, but the overall tone of the story and the essence of the characters should stay the same.
Instead, they are white-washing all the male characters and turning gutsy females into helpless babes, just so that everything fits nicely into their cliched writing formula. And don't even get me started at their out-of-place attempts at humour right after killing a bunch of people.

Well, this time they didn't only weaken the FL, but also turn the ML into a naive wet blanket.

Reading your post I get the feeling that a lot of this was simplified/omitted and instead replaced by romance and trivialities to make the drama more appealing to a younger audience who might get bored by the complex political machinations.
Let's be honest, a drama like Nirvana in Fire with the lack of eye-candy leads and scant romance would be unthinkable nowadays.

Yes, very often they just use the characters of the novel and some rough elements of the plot, but replace any original idea that the author may have had with the same old boring cliches.
There is such a vast variety of totally different novels out there but all the dramas feel kind of the same.

You're not alone. I can look past bad CGI - but I could not look past a bad story or crappy acting.
So far our leads have not disappointed and the story is still interesting (despite the endless bathing scenes), so I will stick with it.

Yes, she may seem happy now because she only sees the title, but what about the rest of her life? Stuck in the palace with a guy who doesn't love her. Even if she is delusional now, sooner or later she will realise it.
It's ok for him, when he becomes emperor he can still get a few concubines, but for the woman it will be a lonely and miserable life! The Empress Dowager is giving us a glimpse of where that leads...

He is the spider that sits in the middle of the web. It may seem hard sometimes to grasp what he is truly planning, but I find him a pleasure to watch. He has screen-presence enough to fill a room!
And I wish the ML had half of his scheming ability and mysterious air.

I couldn't comment on individual performances, I didn't make it beyond the 1st episode because it was too ridiculous. All the modern gadgets and the silly dialogue with gems like "we're going to Europe, we'll be back soon". It was just too much for me and I really cannot stand the time-travel trope.

I don't think it is a responsible choice to make himself and the woman he marries unhappy in a love-less marriage.
It's nostalgia at best, but mainly stupid.

It's not like he hasn't been warned (by LMX).It should be quite clear to see for him that she is on the verge of being mentally unhinged.

It depends on what you like...
Legend of Anle is a serious historical drama (with a few funny moments) with a slow-burn romance and some political scheming.
Princess and WW is a xianxia (fantasy with demons, magic, etc.) with a lot of silliness and time-travel elements.
Acting-wise LOA definitely has the better cast
