Up to ep 6 and still liking the ML and the story. I’m suffering a little PTSD from the Journey of Chong Zi and…
I get your PTSD, we’ve all been there…Here the FL is much better than I had expected. The voice is a bit childish in the early episodes (it gets better…) but at least she doesn’t pout or say “shiwwwuuu” every 5 seconds.
After the latest edit of the cast list the wonderful Yang Zhong (Lu Yan’s attendant) has disappeared, but we now have two actors on the role of Xu Wei (the shmuck who got executed early on). One as a guest role, with the actor actually playing Yang Zhong and one as support role with the correct actor for Xu Wei. I’ve already tried to correct it, but my edit was rejected because of insufficient proof even though it clearly is a mistake. I wonder what magical “proof” was used for the erroneous edit… I really feel bad for Yang Zhen, the actor playing Yang Zhong, he is doing a brilliant job and people deserve to know his name.
The fabulous fight scene on the river was a splendid demonstration of JT’s action skills. He really goes for it! I hope none of the extras got hurt… Drama gods, give that man an action drama! The scene where the FL just opens his shirt without even thinking and the ML gives her that look of scandalised virgin nearly had me fall off the couch laughing 🤣🤣🤣 And poor Yang Zhong must be the unluckiest attendant ever. Always opening that door at the wrong moment. This guy is comedy gold!!
In te novel it is quite clear that the dreams are memories of his past life, so what he sees has already happened. He uses the knowledge of this to change what is happening in his current life. I haven’t finished reading the novel so I don’t know yet if there will be some sort of explanation for this. How these dreams will be explained in the drama version may be different as certain concepts of rebirth or past lives may violate the censorship rules.
“Sit down, so that I can explain the situation to you,” said no ML ever before in a Chinese drama 😂😂😂 And the FL keeps telling him that she trusts him, repeatedly! How will these two ever be able to creat these delightful misunderstandings that go on and on and that we all love so much??
Also, I loved the way JT was channelling his inner Gollum over his precious (gold). Absolutely hilarious!

Yes, I think he is indeed not too good (or willing) to sell and promote himself to build up sufficient momentum to get the high-profile shows. It reminds me very much of my professional experience, there are people who are good at doing things and there are those whose greatest talent lies in promoting themselves and playing company politics. From what I see in the stuff they post on Weibo, his fans in China just applaud all and anything. I cringe every time I see them wax about the drama that shall remained unnamed. Also, there are probably not enough of them to build up real pressure comparable to what a Yang Mi could mobilize and we international fans don’t count at all. I find it very sad to see all this and not be able to do anything about it.

I think a lot of his international fans feel that way and some of us keep saying so every time we see him paired with yet another trainee actress. His talents are totally wasted in these trophy romantic roles.
There are many decent actresses that would make a good pair with him. Yang Mi, or Li Shi Shi, absolutely! I wouldn’t be too keen on the likes of Ester Yu or Yang Zi because I find them too babyish, he needs someone with a bit more spunk.

Not all of his fans are in denial (I agree that a lot of them are, tough…) but other than supporting whatever he is in there isn’t much a fan can do. I absolutely want to see him in grown-up roles instead of babysitting an endless line of starlets or playing second fiddle to far less talented actors/actresses, but somehow he doesn’t seem to hear me when I cry and scream at the screen.
