Just started watching this today. I've watched the first two episodes and so far, I'm very intrigued. I love this type of stories of characters who need to get humbled in order to grow more as people and Kang David falls into this category. I'm having a blast watching Jyung Kyung Ho's portrayal, he doesn't come across as cringe and he embodies the character's quirks and traits very well.
I need people to stop calling Mo Eun a psychopath. She did bad things and she used Yun Sun in order to kill Ko Se Hun but she's still not a psychopath. Due to her trauma and resentment, she decided to take matters into her own hands and kill the people who were responsible for her sister's death. She's a very complex character so reducing her personality to her being a psychopath is a disservice to the character.
On top of that, unlike psychopaths, Mo Eun shows empathy towards people and she doesn't act without a motive. She didn't kill innocent people, nor did she show any other psychotic traits in her flashbacks. She didn't let Hui Yeong kill herself, she saved her inmate from her bullies, she felt sympathy for Yun Sun and at the end of the day, she felt remorse for her actions and sought atonement by killing herself.
Just finished watching it. Definitely one of the best thrillers this year. The plot was engaging for the most part and every single actor did a magnificent job. Both Jeon Do Yeon and Kim Go Eun were stellar and their chemistry made Yu Sun and Mo Eun's dynamic even more appealing. Park Hae Soo was also very good and it's always a pleasure watching Jin Seon Kyu on my screen.
The script could have been tighter in the last episodes but overall, I found the drama to be more than worth it. So happy that it didn't disappoint me, it was one of my most anticipated releases this year and the result was great.
Finished watching the first four episodes and so far it's pretty good. I love the performances from all actors so far, Go Eun is absolutelly killing it in this role. I have some theories regarding the real cilprit but we shall see.
I'd like to offer an interpretation of Tae Joong's statue Yo Han sculptured:
In the statue, Tae Joong is being depicted as being wrapped in wires, particularly his mouth. I found a connection between the wires and Jesus' thorn crown. Jesus was made to wear it as a mockery and that's what Yohan did to Taejoong. To him, Taejoong was a pathetic person who would rather sacrifice his freedom instead of betraying his morals. He appeared to be "almighty" and "righteous" and Yohan, who couldn't fathom the concept of empathy and kindness, was amused and wondered how he could taint Taejoong's innocence. Once Taejoong ridiculed and insulted him, despite Yohan's attempt to give him a last chance, Yohan lost his respect towards Taejoong and his persistence to sacrifice himself for others was an evidence of Taejoong's weakness.
On the other hand, one could argue that Taejoong's willingness to give up his freedom for Yongsik could be paralleled with Jesus'sacrifice for mortals. Taejoong was shown that he will protect his loved ones, even at the expense of his well-being. Thus the parallel themes of sacrifice and kindness. The Manipulated tackled religious themes in the first episodes, so I couldn't help but incorporate them in my analysis.
What’s the problem with the ending?? 🥲 Tae Jung already suffered so much, he deserves that ending, guys 😭
My issue is that it could have been handled a little bit better, they fit too many things in two episodes and the story's development felt kinda rushed. But I'm happy for Tae Joong, God knows how much he deserves this.
We need more people in the justice system like Yang Cheol Hwan. Such an underrated character. I liked that he played a more active role in the second half.
