On ep 16 now, can someone spoil me below if Jiang Ai will betray Simu? or even Yan ke will start obsessive love…
Jiang Ai is like an aunt to Simu she is not the betrayer. Yan ke has betrayed her long ago but is trapped between two desires- Being the ruler and being infatuated with her.
The love triangle is so annoying. Why is the second ML inserting himself in a relationship involving a child. That’s beyond selfish. He literally has no redeeming points. Also why can’t dramas show a character sending a text explaining why they’re missing an Important meeting, why use it as a plot device it makes zero sense. One text message and no feelings hurt. This is just lazy writing.
I agree. I think it was an actually interesting premise and mystery and they misused some of the runtime on the…
You’re right, her chemistry with the prosecutor was slightly better. I honestly don’t even like the romance here. I get why he fell in love with her but her transition from loving him based on admiration (as a fan) to loving him as an adult man and a potential life partner was unclear or maybe I was not convinced by it. Anyway this drama is ruined for me.
This feels like the director and writer suddenly remembered they only had two episodes left so they quickly dumped everything on the EX, which could’ve been fine with the right execution but they went about it in such a nonsensical way. Where’s forensics? They showed her leaving a bloody handprint on the body! Why didn’t she call her father to try to cover it up for her? They wasted so much time on white noise. Why point out the exactness of the knife wound suggesting a somewhat professional hit, or show the mysterious figure in black following Laik suggesting danger only to forget about it late. Why make the prosecutor make a 180 only because Se Na asked him nicely? Does he suddenly care about morality when he wasn’t even remorseful for bullying her. Episode 11 downgraded this drama from a possible 8-8.5 to a 7 or even a 6.
Kind of ridiculous that forensics didn't find a single hair, finger print or the ear stud when they checked the…
I was just about to comment the same thing. Laik shouldn’t have been the prime suspect past the first week after fingerprints from the crime scene came back. They even showed her leaving a bloody handprint while clutching his shirt. This is ridiculous.
i agree with the mask comment. i was interested to see the mask design in the drama as the novel had made it seems…
It looks like they didn’t have much of a budget though that’s probably more due to laziness because there are some low budget dramas that took more care with the design of things.
they removed the reincarnation because of censorship and that became the plot holes. in the novel, after rebirth,…
I didn’t know that about the censorship. Is reincarnation a problematic theme in china? I was just wondering about it the over day because every CDrama I remember watching that should’ve had reincarnation chose to disregard it. Thank you for replying. I’ve read the novel so I already know what should’ve happened. To your point after reincarnating He Yan was indeed weak but she spent time to train and get muscle mass. She also trained really hard in military training so I kind of expected a more athletic looking actress to play her character but anyway I have nothing against the actress who plays her now.
I can’t get past those masks. They’re horrible, sometimes hiding everything while others hiding nothing. Being such large part of the plot I expected them to make a bit more effort in the design. Regardless, so much of this Drama is disappointing. The FL was always described as thin but she was lean, she had muscles. This actress is pretty but dainty looking, nothing close to a martial art practitioner. Also what they chose to change in the plot to get around the reincarnation are all the best parts of the novel.
Only watched 1 episode. For those that might have read the novel. is most of what was in there made up? It seems…
They changed a lot of the plot because in the novel the FL reincarnated into another girl’s body that shared her name. Before reincarnating He Yan enlisted in the army because she was running away from an arranged marriage with another woman (not knowing her cousin was going to come back and reclaim his identity). She wasn’t that skilled and was considered a weak soldier. When her unit got attacked and killed by enemy soldiers she, wounded and barely alive, hid underneath a pile of bodies and was then rescued by said master (a sect disciple) who later taught her martial skills except sword fighting which she learned from Xiao Jue (she didn’t know that at the time). Later, after facing many battles and defending the border against the Wootu people, she gains the recognition of the Emperor only for her cousin He Rufei to finally reclaim his identity and receive the accolades and the title of Rising Phoenix General in her stead while finally revealing the face behind the mask. She is then married of to a scholar, blinded and eventually killed to keep The Secret (she is drowned while being pregnant). Her sword was being held by He Rufei not Xaio Jue. After reincarnating she trains everyday with her new brother and eventually joins the military unit led by General Xai Jue due to some incident and in order to protect her new loving family and seek revenge on her old one, this time under her lawful name.
This is definitely the most entertaining Chinese drama in a while. I can’t even remember the last time I laughed so hard from watching one. All the characters have their charm and there’s no need to skip the dialogue of the side characters like in so many other CDramas that have the most boring subplots. The comedic relief here is chefs kiss. This really opened up 2025 on a high note.
The acting was great. It wasn’t all that mysterious though. Overall it was an above decent watch and I could binge it so 9/10. On another note, i’m so tired of those strange takes on marriage. Probably a one time watch. And they could’ve done without the boob showing (why only do this to villainous characters?)
So this drama is not bad but making it only 8 episode long was a mistake. The characters lack clear motivation. We know too little about any of them and there are a lot of them that get too little screen time. Many things are hinted at but it not enough to get you emotionally invested. Sadly this is a 7.
honestly skipped all the scenes w the prosecutor I think it def needed 16eps a lot more things could have been…
She’s totally a brat. Blames her father for not being able to protect her friend then abandons her family to go play vigilante. Her anger is misplaced. The prosecutor’s character really needs som flashing out. We probably won’t be shown her motivation. I think they should’ve at least made it a 12 episode drama.
Ok, they couldn’t have made the ML’s character any worse. Why doesn’t he have any redeeming qualities? After the 10th episode her disorder seems to only be a plot device for the FL and ML to reunite. I wasn’t even all that against that possibility but at least show them healing and learning how to have a healthy relationship. She had no reason being happy he ran to her. None of their problems have been solved. It was all good till this point. I really hope they won’t end it as just a toxic romance story.
I was reaaaaally excited for this drama. I waited A LOT for it to be released, I thought it would be romcom, with…
Had the same feelings after watching it yesterday. Guess the aim was for the drama to have more of a comedic start by painting him as both victim and a villain but it ended up being a bit of a forced cheap comedy in my eyes. Also the special effect wild boar was horrible where is all that Netflix money? Personally, I love melodrama and I wish they could have played on the sadness and tragedy a little bit. I kept waiting to see glimpses of his past feelings for his wife but the first thing he does after she told him she has about three months left to live is searching how quickly she can die? He ended up getting the opposite results but I wanted in that scene to at least see him hoping a little that she actually could recover miraculously. To your second point I feel like it was the result of editing the drama to make it more comedic.
Maybe I'll get some hate for this but I don't think Shin Sae Kyung was right for this role. She is very expressionless…
Especially since they also don’t spare on makeup for her. She has real feminine makeup that emphasizes her eyes, her lips, a bit of a healthy blush on. I agree, she’s far from the best for this role. Besides her being a woman pretending she’s a man she’s also a woman in love seeking revenge. All we see on her face is stoicism and teary eyes. Jo Jung Suk carries this drama. He brings in so much nuance that I wish we could see in her performance as well.
