One bad show doesn't get to define a whole genre!! This is not about the genre but bad, incoherent, inconsistent, and incompetent writing. the show's failure lies in its poor execution,not in the audience's ability to understand it.

You're clearly missing the point. The real issue isn't just the plot but the pacing, tone, coherence, and expression of ideas throughout the drama. The script starts with a strong foundation of idealism, but those core themes are abandoned by the end. It's a classic case of bad writing where the initial promises aren't fulfilled. A good story should maintain its thematic integrity from start to finish, not veer off into inconsistent territory.

These elements, crucial to the plot, fall apart by the end. From the first episode, we were led to expect a consistent storyline, but instead, we got an ending that abandons the initial idealism. Having that cat-fight glaring example of bad writing, betraying the foundation laid from the start.

Many things sub-plots are left hanging with no explanations or closure at the end. I found it hard to believe that the "white-haired witch" who was a strategist that planned her moves would get into a cat-fight as her ultimate end. That was so out of character with all the expectations build up by the writer from the beginning. I thought there would be some great mind-games and reveal at the end that would justify all the politics, fighting and competition. In the end there was nothing.

OMG, please stop trying to justify bad scriptwriting and a severely flawed story. I know how to watch and interpret dramas. There are problems with the execution of the drama and how it is presented to the viewer. From the outset, this was not a story about the struggles of the FL to reach her dream but a critique of the education system, teaching, and how teachers see themselves with all the pressures that the hagwon industry brings. That's why we have the struggles and the politics, the competition etc.

I would have applauded the writer if the story was all about the FL's struggle to reach her dream from the 1st episode but it's not it's about a system she was trying to protect. Therefore the whole build-up of the drama from episodes 1 - 16 is totally out of sync with that ending.

All the points you mentioned are either passing comments by other people or just ideas bouncing around without any thought or significance as part of the main plot. They could have shown that but didn't but focused on the hagwon.

Now that I think about it, what a waste of my time and energy. Me thinking there is going to be a showdown and resolution of her conflict with those two women (white hair director and other). Even how both women who were portrayed as strategists ended with a catfight. How ridiculous is that.

It took her ten minutes before the drama ended to come up with that decision after acting like a virtuous sacrificial lamb who was ready for a crusade fighting for the academy & the students and profession she loved. Even going to the extent of being so condescending and preaching to the “white-haired witch”, talking about ethics etc. That's what so unrealistic and out of character. Not once did she speak about having other passions except teaching. Even when she missed the law exam, she didn't seem disappointed in herself.

I totally agree that the idealism and all the preachy ideas about being a great teacher, caring for students and inspiring them to love learning was forgotten by the end of the drama. The last episode was such a dissappointment that deviated from the overall message of the drama. In the end we weren't even sure what the fighting was all for.

I also don't get how the manager was so passive and just looked on but didn't come up with the ideas of promoting the hagwan. Also replacing the face on the poster of the Hagwan just meant that they were repeating the same system.

What hogwash did I just watch? After all that preaching and idealist ideas about being a great teacher and inspiring students, they choose to end it this way. What a huge disappointment, it didn't deliver what was promised in the end.

I consider myself a very broad-minded individual that watches all sorts of dramas and honestly the subject matter is important but they failed to deliver it in a compelling way. It's too preachy and idealist while lacking that "realness" quality. You can tell what they were trying to say but they failed to convenience the audience with the story-telling. Surely there is more to a hagowan teacher's life.

I really hate the preachy tone of this drama and the impractical idealism (country, education system issues vs personal idealism). Can one teacher change a whole system? I get the issues of Korean education but the drama is written in a weird,cliche way. The characters don't tell their stories well at all...it's like a story you have seen before but just set in a school environment with petty politics. The whole concept of the "white haired witch" was unnecessary and that timid looking teacher wasn't enough tension.

So for how long will you keep it from them. Isn't that cruel.

There is an English Dubbed version on YT. I honestly, don't know if I liked the drama, didn't like the ex-husband. Also not a fan of these older dramas and their let's forgive each other theme.

I have watched all 3 versions of this drama and the Thai version is my favourite (under the circumstances, bcos they all push the wrong buttons inside of you. At least the FL quickly grows a spine in Thai version and let's the man go. The Taiwanese version is the worst and most excruciating of the lot. After all these years it still makes me angry just thinking about it.

You will have a fit if you watch the original Taiwanese version. They even have a kid together, thankfully this one stops before insulting us.

Now if the whole series had been like this, I would have been swooning. This was dang cute and less awkward than the whole series.

There maybe one or two, but even the most sporty teenagers won't look like they took some whey protein to look buff and chiselled.

Did the teenagers in your High School also go to the race track to do a bit of "Fast & Furious" in expensive cars. Guess it was just another normal day for the teenagers right (wink)

Yeah, I was just thinking about how heavy the themes were for teenagers. Another thought was how no one looked like that in my High School.Those abs and sexy bodies .

We all get the concept of crime of passion but, maybe on an episode of "Snapped" or some other crime show. As a movie, it was just asinine and too basic, not even that intriguing.

Watched the movie as part of my personal quest to watch more older, mature rated (R rated) Asian movies.

That's a good plan, but even watching at 3x couldn't save me from being put off. I will go back one of these days.

-FL's friend almost cost her job but they just brush that aside. The same friend somehow saves her boyfriend's family's company because she is apparently a brilliant PR person,except she already has a job.
-How many jobs did the FL have & how did she fit that into her life?

Where do I even begin with this disappointing drama? Sloppy and inconsistent, they kept forgetting or ignoring some of the side stories. Stupid storylines to make up for the long-winded, road to a predictable end.

That other actress's hair and make-up were atrocious. It looked like she had a nest on her head and they wanted us to believe she was dating a younger guy. She had the most fun storyline but they made her look cheap.
