I think what bothers me more is how people easily romanticizing red flags and bad behaviour just because the character looks hot & people praise the characters, not the actors.

Pei Zhen never redeem himself imho, it's basically because Zhi Yu left no room for mistake & give PZ no amunition left hence he has to accept his fate, his life is nothing but empty shell. Apologizing is the least he could do but it doesn't erase the trouble & pain he bring to the people he hurted.

People need to stop looking excuse for Pei Zhen.
No one is born evil.
In real life when people do bad things they'll be deemed as bad person.
People won't ask you why you did that, what your reason, etc
If you don't want to be deemed as bad person then don't do bad deeds.
Understanding is one thing, looking excuse to justify is another thing.
Imagine the damage PZ brings to ZY & HX life if ZY wasn't this smart, careful, attentive & protective person.
The night when he drunk & barging to HX door is disturbing AF.
The thing that he did to sabotage everything ZY has & all that hurtful things he said when ZY has done nothing to him show what kind of a person he is.
He can blame no one but himself for every bad things that he did as an adult.
Your action is what determine if you're a good person or not.

Yes Pei has sad backstory but it doesn't negate the fact he's an egoistic, awful person who doesn't care to hurt others as long he gets what he wants including doing dirty works.

It's about time for him to pay for his selfish deed & people need to stop justifying his action & looking for every leeway and excuse just because he's pitiful. He's a grown ass adult, he need to be put accountable for what he did.

I think the drama (if the spoiler was true) doing great in building his redemption path (he himself as the catalyst coz he dw to end up like his dad), after he redeem & heal himself (less bitter person), he can form a healthier new relationship whether it's romantic or not.

Also Pei need to seek therapy before settle for any romantic relationship otherwise this kind relationship would be too toxic.
