The demons seem to have an upper hand in their dealing with knight changfeng and the xia clan. I'm thinking knight changfeng is working undercover by dealing with the demon's general. He pretended to go along in order to find out more about the demons plan. Finally xue ying become a transcendant knight. Too bad about that senior i like him, didn't think he died so soon. Wasn't expecting situ hong would kill his own cousin, was he ashamed of him for turning into a demon, also killing the senior and frame xue ying for it. What a change in character from how he was at the beginning.

The main leads seem nice to me. They helped their classmates enter changfeng academy back when they were tested. Also even though situ hong and his cousin acted aggressive towards xue ying because of their jealousy towards him, he was always friendly to them. Also I like the friendship between xue ying and yang bo, even though yang bo was being laugh at by the other students when he first entered the academy, xue ying was always nice to him even if he is not the most talkative he still accept him as a friend. The same with jing qiu and you ye. I find the four of them form a good group of friends. In term of the masters being partial, it looks to me they just value talent and hardwork and xue ying proves himself time and time again. What causes those cousins to act that way is due to their own shortcoming. Compare to yang bo and you ye who were weaker but still want to learn and weren't jealous of xue ying and jing qiu, they were able to form a friendship with them, it's not that hard to get along with each other. The masters weren't trying to turn them against each other either like you said, xue ying was always training at night and he gotten in trouble with his control and was discovered by his master, that's why he helped him stabilize his power. On why he didn't help situ hong when he asked to be train on the same level as xue ying, it's because he was too impatient and could harm himself. Xue ying gotten hit by a demon weapon when he was about to become transcendant so his power has not stabilize, that's why he got special attention from his master. No one else was acting jealous besides situ hong and his cousin those cousins don't like seeing someone else being the center of attention.
I don't see anything wrong with being overachievers, both the main leads loss their parents when young xue ying mother was taken by his uncle, while jing qiu has no memory of her parents. They have a lot in common, that's why they're drawn to each other. Both are independent and have strong resolves due to their own hardships growing up. I like the main leads and find them to be a good pair.
Qing shi is not a bad fighter, he was able to defeat those humans turn demons by himself and ruin rong and that demon general's plan. Now the demon association is planning to turn transcendent into demons using knight chanfeng affection for his late wife to help them. Is he going to betray the academy to help the demons to get his wife energy core? What's an energy core, is it something similar to the one depicted in ancient love poetry that contains an immortal's most powerful spiritual energy? I was thinking he was 19 years old when yao yue father came to ask for an engagement with his daughter, he said yao yue was 18 years old and xue ying was 1 year older than yao yue. If he has been at chanfeng academy for 3 years until transcendent trial then that makes him 22 years old? Qing shi is naive and was easily fooled by rong because he hasn't been exposed to the outside world much since he was always protected by his brother, now a girl who has been nice to him and he trusted her completely even with his brother's warning. I think you ye is harmless and she also understood xue ying is in love with jing qiu that's why she stop her father from pushing him into a marriage with her. I think she realizes she can only be friend with xue ying and she didn't try to interfere in jing qiu and xue ying relationship. In time I think she will realizes puyang bo feeling for her and accepts him.
