Yes I noticed. Also some in yanxi palace and arsenal military too. Really nice to see them again in different roles ^^ Although the physician in yanxi palace is still a physician in royal feast, I really like his characters in both dramas.

I don't mind multiple pairs since some dramas have too many eps so they have to fill the time, but agree with you one pair is good if the drama is shorter. For historical dramas, they need longer eps to tell the story coherently, this drama was cut down from 50 to 40 I think, so it's might be confusing for some viewers if they don't pay attention to the plot. For modern dramas it's the opposite. I don't watch many, but I think it will benefits a modern drama if it has a tighter plot with shorter episodes.

I don't know how many people are watching on mdl lol. I think the 1 billion is only counting Chinese viewers, And i don't know what the views count now.

On YouTube, there are some posted videos that discuss royal feast and has really good English sub. For those who are watching this dramas and wanting to know the perspective of the characters. I just watch a vid that makes comparison to Zhu zan ji and fuca fuheng from yanxi palace, it's an interesting look into the two characters. Fuca fuheng was so devoted to wei yingluo and even after she gotten married to the emperor, he never stop caring for her and even help her to win the emperor's love. His love was much purer than Zhu zan ji, in yanxi palace it was implied he stayed a virgin and didn't have any relation to his wife even after they're married.

Zhu zan ji on the other hand before he met and fall for yao zi Jin, he already has a wife and concubines. If hu shan xang hasn't acted out because of her displeasure with her family in pushing her to marry into the royal family, in turn sour her relation with her husband, so his interest turn to zi Jin was only through luck. Their relationship is not like yingluo and fuheng type of love, this a love from royalty who has other women beside her. As they're historical figures, the emperor having many wives is a given, so his love is not a pure love like fuheng. What I'm more interested in is whether he treats his wives well, even when he has his favor woman. My biggest problem with the emperor in yanxi palace was how he neglected his wives and in turn turn them into psychos that turn on each other to stay in his favor. If Zhu zhan ji actually treated his wives well, then his harem will be more peaceful hopefully. Still I hope we get more CP interaction between zi Jin and zhan ji, I was so heartbroken for their love story in yanxi palace. I hope this drama will satisfy our craving for this CP even if they're two totally different characters ^^

Was wondering if there're other side couples in this drama beside the main one. Like one for zi ping and does anyone know whether you yi fan and su yue hua will become a couple in the future?

When zi Jin and zi ping loss the painting, I thought it was you yi fan that stole it since he was the one last saw the painting. So I kind of figured yi fan and yue hua had something going on. Please don't spoil it for me though I'm still much behind in my watch. Thanks for you answer though ^^ I understand zi Jin since she was chosen first as princess consort she would have been the first wife, but she gotten skip so she was only a concubine if she married him now. Any woman would want herself to be the first wife, and herself being the center of her husband's affection, zi ping is smart enough to know being the first wife is how she could decide her own fate.

Oh so it still focuses on the cooking even after zi Jin became concubine. That good to know since I love the focus of the different dishes, and hopefully they will get a happy ending, and more focus on their relationship ^^

Was checking out some of the comments on other airing dramas, and it turn out most of them either don't have sub or have bad sub including Zhang nan and yao chi drama. Why her drama has such poor rating, are people rating it for the sub, or the story ? Seems like these companies that are producing these dramas don't want to make a profit from international fans, I doubt that is the reason, I heard there's massive layoff from these companies, and that's why the subtitles are slow in coming. Then again mangotv doesn't have a good rep for good sub in the first place.

How is the drama. Does it focuses on politics or on the emperor's concubines? Is it still focus on the cooking even after zi Jin became a concubine? Does it get darker, is it similar to yanxi palace? I was hoping for a lighthearted drama, with a light romance as a backdrop, hope I won't be disappointed and the main CP will get their happy ending. What channel are you watching for the sub since you are already up to ep 35, I'm watching from YouTube and I'm only at ep 17, but I don't want to watch bad sub since you're saying you still don't understand the drama even with the sub.

In the beginning I thought like you, that the old master was using him. But after watching it all, I have to say the old master was feeling guilty over his mother's death, and he truly care for him. Lixuan gotten special treatment by being made a hero to guard the humans, even though his power was nothing special. You can't blame lixuan for siding with the humans, all his friends are humans, his father is human, he loss all memory of his mother since the old master took away his memory since young. When he awaken his power when his father died, the old master actually let him go rather than letting him be capture by the king men. In term of the plot, I was kind of frustrated too, the synopsis was different from what actually happens in the drama, wish this drama has follows the synopsis instead.

Some people might just want to wait until it finish airing.

In ep 17, we get a flashback, and it seems zi Jin gotten skipped over and wasn't selected as prince consort. However she's not bitter about it, and actually care more for her freedom then becomes a prince consort. She told the crown prince she wants to stays a cook instead of being a concubine to him. I kind of understand her reason though, from what she said those young girls who were consider as candidates were lock away and were trained to be select for his consort, and in the end they weren't selected including her. Her story reminds me of the empress from yanxi palace, who became a princess consort before become an empress, who loves her husband, but in the end value her freedom more, who committed suicide after she felt betrayed by the emperor... The life of the empresses and concubines are so sadly depicted in yanxi palace, in this one it's also alluded to their reality, not all pinks and roses.

I'm surprised ye hua would stoop to stealing to win, it just shows she is not confident in winning against zi ping and zi Jin. Why is she acting that way? She used to want to be friend with zi Jin, but now she's competitive and doesn't care what she has to do to win. I wonder if it has anything to do with matron meng, is she jealous of zi Jin because matron meng acknowledges zi Jin?

The empress and ying luo have such a strong sisterly bond; zi ping and zi Jin I kind of have that same feeling ^^

Well he did married her, he just didn't complete the marriage . Tianqi was helping baijue keeping a secret from shanggu about his marriage because baijue already made up his mind about dying in place of shanggu, so he is making shanggu think him as a bad guy.
