This drama makes me both happy, delighted and also frustrated at the same time. I love how the story started, how the FL and ML met and got married, how the different sister-in-laws became good friends and supported each other, and also the brotherhood of prince 3, 5 and 6. Love how our ML 6th prince started to gain recognition in court and how the couple got closer to each other. Also appreciated the fight for equality for the different female characters. But about mid way or two thirds into the drama, I feel like the writers tried to have too many different themes and storyline. The restaurant story was cute at first but took too much time from the main storyline esp the OTP development. There was no focus and I started watching it while doing other stuff, and didn’t feel the urge to immediately chase new episodes. I wish the script was tighter and not try to do too many things. The drama is still an enjoyable and comforting watch but could be much, much better with a more focused script. I like it but don’t love it. Nevertheless it is still a drama worth watching.
P.S. I was surprised how much more I enjoyed the love line between 5th Prince Qi and Princess Shangguan of Danchuan (both has the best character development too) vs the main OTP. I wish the writers explored the main OTP story more. Bai Jingting is lovely in this role, but he didn't have enough screen time and character development. It was a bit of a waste.... The FL is really cute and I want to watch more of her works. But I didn't quite feel her deep love for the 6th Prince Yin Cheng - again it's more because of the script and not the acting.
yeahh i feel the same. It kinda fell short for me after FL's sacrifice. I was expecting some really heart-wrenching…
Was scrolling through the comments and can't help but read thru this thread cuz this was an interesting and different take on how DFQC grieved over XLH's death, vs my own experience. For me, I thought this was a rather exceptional and unique way of showing grieve vs the usual portrayal. We already see DFQC's agony when XLH died, as he cradled her in his arms. It was massive, to say the least. So massive that he could not cope with her loss and decided to trap himself in a dream to be with her. I personally was very affected by this scene and cried a river, when I found out it was his own created dream. If I recall TMOPB (also one of my fav xianxia), YH also did sth similar, when he kept that spirit light/ flame and burnt Bai Qian's belongings, hoping to bring her back to life. And hoping/ pretending all the time that it will while carrying on with life and taking care of their son. It was only when the light was destroyed and he desperately tried to revive it, and his uncle confronted him to give up, that he finally faced reality. Both grieving by these 2 MLs made me cry pretty badly. But I guess you had a different expectation esp comparing with TMOPB.
Hey guys! I’ve come from Ancient Love Poetry and Ten Miles Peach Blossoms which I am in love with! How is this…
I haven't watch Ancient Love Poetry but have watched and loved Ten Miles Peach Blossom (probably the last Xianxia I love). I think you will enjoy Love between Fairy and Devil, esp the love story btwn the main leads (it is as strong and immersing as Ten Miles), plus it has great character development for both the leads and supporting cast. It is also less draggy even vs Ten Miles (in my opinion), and the story is v tight and moves fast, hardly any filler episodes or scenes. The CGI is amazing, the OST is super good (just like Ten Miles). Give it a try - I am quite sure you won't regret it!
umm is this drama really that good? I'm not a fan of historical or xianxia genre. I last saw Dylan Wang in MG,…
I usually skip Xianxia genre (watch 1-2 ep and stop) but I gave this a try cuz of Avenuex review on youtube. And I was totally hooked! Of course it's not perfect but the story, acting, CGI and costumes are all v well done. Hardly any filler scenes/ episodes which tends to happen in Cdramas a lot. As for Dylan Wang, I've not seen him before in other dramas and caught a few of his MG scenes. Just thot of him as an idol-type actor. But wow, he totally blew me off in his role as the Moon Tribe Supreme leader!! I also love the FL Esther Yu's performance as Orchid/ Xiao Lan Hua, though I know some people don't like her childlike voice (I thot it was suitable for the character and it changes as she grows and mature). Both of them have amazing chemistry, and the whole cast was really great!
Thanks so much for sharing this! I’m glad he found his own fame and his family is so proud of him!!
You're welcome! I came across this video by accident - not many people seem to have seen this. He definitely received more recognition than he expected for this role. One interesting fact - he was actually a chef in a restaurant before he joined the voice-dubbing industry (for 7 years now).
He dubbed DFQC's voices so well and matched with Dylan Wang's mouth and acting. I understood part of what he said - he said he was surprised and also happy when people gave recognition and praise for his dubbing. And that his friends, high school mates and even relatives like aunties and uncles started asking if he was really the voice-dubber and he said yes LOL!! He hopes he will get more opportunities after this and that voice-dubbing actors will get more recognition. He also said that he definitely put all his emotions as he record and dub for the character.
i thought it was his voice during the swap.Guess i was wrong lol
Haha!! There's been quite a number of posts/ comments saying that Dylan recorded the XLH-body swap parts, so I believed it too. Was so surprised when I watched this video and found its the same voice dubber. He's voice-acted really well for that part too!
Not sure if anyone has posted this yet - video feature of DFQC voice dubber!! Unfortunately there’s no Eng sub. One important info - it looks like he also dubbed DFQC when he body swap with XLH (some info said Dylan Wang dubbed that part). You can see it at 3:19 - 3:43.
Hi. I'm starting this drama. Do you know how long Iqiyi takes to free their episodes? Thanks!
It's also on Netflix. If not, I really suggest you subscribe one month on iQiyi to watch it - it's not very expensive. The video quality is so much better vs the streaming sites like Dramacool and Kissasian.
So in episode he makes her a replica of the Arbiter hall which is really sweet. Don't misunderstand my next sentence…
To me, I actually find her reaction kinda understandable as she was in extreme stress after being accused a traitor and forced to leave her home. Yes, she was being far too naive to want to go back with the danger of getting arrested again by the emperor, but being in the Moon Tribe might be even more terrifying for her (before she started seeing Moon Tribe and DFQC in a different light later). I see it as her over-reaction due to being in an extreme situation - she was reacting emotionally and not with her rational mind at that split moment.
avenuex , bless her soul, has collected, and uploaded 800 MB worth of watermark free CLJ pics : ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxiLJt7asE00rvJURYTprkZ3FT4_Xd8crXFor…
Thanks for sharing!! Avenuex has fallen quite hard for LBFAD!
aww you were quicker, i just wanted to come here, to link to the soompi article review as well! its great, i am…
Haha! I happened to come across it when it came out, so just had to post it here. Such a wonderful review of the drama and also the actors/ characters!
Pure-hearted and strong female lead Our fairy orchid Xiao Lan Hua is from Shuiyuntian and is the sole apprentice to the keeper of the Books of Destiny at the Arbiter Hall. She is warm, bubbly, and super adorable, but she is also very timid and innocent. Despite being known as a lowly fairy with weak powers, her character transitions and develops into a strong, determined, and brave individual. What is so wonderful about Xiao Lan Hua is despite the harsh and difficult journey she encounters, she never loses her true essence, which is her generous and compassionate heart. Xiao Lan Hua is naturally able to bring out the best in people with her unwavering trust. She is just a ray of sunshine that you can’t help but fall in love with, just like Dongfang Qingcang.
Esther Yu displays her acting talent through her versatility in portraying three different characters. She does this meticulously through her changes in articulation and demeanor for each character. I especially liked the evolution of her voice. At the beginning, Esther spoke with a higher-pitched voice indicating Xiao Lan Hua’s childlike innocence. As the story progresses, her voice slowly changes to match the maturity of her character. And in the body-swap scenes with Dongfang Qingcang, she uses a different and deeper voice, adding more depth to her performance which she pulled off effortlessly.

There’s great write up about DFQC/ WHD and the rest too but I’m highlighting XLH/ Esther Yu cuz of the bashing that she gets at times.
