I see what you mean. Similar turning victim into villain trope happened in The Autumn Ballad and it made me sigh.
I've noticed that it'll usually be short or be implied when it's a man's turn to be plummeled but a woman with have a drawn out scene of her being a punching bag.

MTE! Something like this NEEDS a ML with more than sufficient charisma to sell this genre and the actor isn't there yet. He'd suit playing a villain more at this current time.

It isn't an age issue as actors who are his age or younger at the time could more than step up to the challenge.

Needs a mature tag! This has sex scenes, albeit it with no nudity.

MTE! Tonally completely different, too serious (unlike the comedy in the original), then the chemistry not being there is a death knell ... I've finished dramas that have lacklustre writing because the chemistry was 🔥, like the Circle of Love and the recent Forever Love (2023).

The issue seems to be the actress not the actor, cause he can have a lot of chemistry with the actresses he's partnered with, like with Sun Yi (who was in a relationship at the time IIRC).

I'll go back to watching Miss Mystery and call this a day and I completely understand if you choose to stop watching as well.
