Surprising absolutely no one, the grand prince was the murderer in his bid to usurp the throne.
I can't get over how obvious he was and I'm confused as to if this was an actual directed action or an acting choice. Like he and the consort were SOOOO hammy yet the consort may or may not know he was the actual murderer.
Is this supposed to the campiness? I feel like it was better in the first 3 episodes.
Why would they make Ak Hee the charming simp? Why? Why haven't they given Hyun some charming traits too? How is this supposed to be a love triangle when Ak Hee seems to be the only who actually does the loving/liking?
I get it; it's hard to make 2 distinct personalities but seriously, Ak Hee has all the comedic, awkward, and endearing moments that make you forget he's supposed to be an obsessed lying evil spirit.
If you choose to remember, that's when the red flags or weirdness is most noticable such as when he said he found his love again and lied about Gyera loving him
I think Ak Hee's obsessive determination is gonna overpower the cage he's bound to and he's gonna save Gyera.
Otherwise, not sure why Hyeon could possibly believe that Gyera didn't kill the king. She was seemingly the last one in the room, she had given the king acupuncture, she said she planned to kill the king, she said she intentionally deceived him.
There's currently nothing that leads to either of them having faith in each other so that he would believe her denial. Only Ak Hee seems like he wouldn't care either way and would protect her regardless.
If the drama is so different from the webtoon, I think it would be better to consider it "inspired" by or "based" on the webtoon and not a direct adaptation.
I think a big part of Hyun's treatment towards Gyera is because he felt betrayed by the one person who seemed to get him.
There's also the fact that Ak Hee liked her and caused her to be his concubine so it's just a weird dynamic at play.
It was kinda chuckleworthy that Hyun couldn't believe that Ak Hee would go as far as wiping her memories because he had "a crush" when to Ak Hee it made total sense. (A) Hyun is the son of her enemy (b) she was drawn to Hyun over Ak Hee (c) erase her memories and say Ak Hee is the one she was close to so she can only like him without the other 2 factors
i'm confused, why Sajo Yung is so upset by the king behavior towards him when he planned to assinate him anyway…
I think Hyun is emotional over his father's death *because* it's his father. Even though he was terrible and abusive person, he was still his only living parent and the only family member he technically had.
Children, even grown children, can have mixed and complicated feelings about their parents even if the parents are terrible or abandoned them. Hyun wanted to prove himself to his father even though he had zero interest in actually dealing with the kingdom or hunting. Now their final moments are just more disappointment for both of them which again could lead to complicated mixed emotions.
is it me that doesn’t understand the drama or you guys. what the crown prince has is personality switch right(same…
He was possessed, not DID (in the drama. In the webtoon, I think it may have been DID). He shares his body with a spirit. I think it would be similar to how shamans say they were chosen by a spirit who then inhabited them and that's what gave them their shaman powers.
I didn't like episode 4 as much as I liked previous episodes. It felt slow and jarring without Ak Hee's chaotic presence which also brought the ridiculous fun aspect. The *only* fun was the eunuch and the shaman. Even Gyera no longer had the energetic fun since now she knows the truth about Ak Hee and Hyun. It just felt like a draggy downer to me.
I felt bad for Hyun because without Ak Hee, he wanted to prove himself as better than him and worthy of praise and appreciation instead of ridicule and scorn but he just fundamentally, at his core, doesn't have those traits/qualities his deem "manly" or valuable. He doesn't enjoy hunting and womanizing. I don't know if the plan he came up with was a good one for the citizens but I took the king's smile as he was just happy/proud that Hyun was finally even showing an interest and being proactive in matters.
I figured the grand prince had framed Gyera. I think his true colors were shown when he had his freak out in his room. He's ambitious, manipulative, and duplicitious all for a throne he's not even remotely entitled to. I originally thought he was trying to get rid of the king because he would be a better king but now, I don't know. He seems he could be just as deranged and unreliable although in a different way.
I am preferring this to webtoon. Probably cause I like comedy. I think one thing that helps me enjoy this is I have NO expectations about it. I'm not comparing it to the webtoon, I didn't watch promos & trailers leading up to it (and when I did watch the trailers, they didn't appeal to me at all). I'm not comparing it to other psychological shows or performances.
Just by watching the actual show is why I'm enjoying it. It's just dumb fun to me so far. The end of the episodes always leave me wanting more; I want to know how Hyun or Gyera will get out of a given situation. How will Ak Hee try to win over Hyun and Gyera (in different ways).
I saw someone describe it has having campiness and I think they're right. This is just an easy watch for entertainment's sake. I mean seriously, how can you have seen the first episode and NOT realize this is not meant to be taken seriously?
i don't think they're the same person. Ak Hee is an "akgui" (악귀) literally meaning evil spirit.
I was wondering if Ak Hee meant evil spirit (once I realized it seemed like child Sajo Hyun was saying Ak Hee/Ak Gui and when Ak Hee was talking about having an evil spirit inside him to Gyera). Wow, so Ak Hee really just claimed "evil spirit" as his name? Haha
Well, it's not the first time I've seen something in kdramas before.
I don't know if this counts as a spoiler since this is just my assumption and would happen in future episodes but I think Hyun/Ak Hee is gonna become king and Gyera can tell them apart fairly easily.
Seeing the behind the scenes making of the show just makes me feel more protective of it. Clearly the cast and crew, especially Park Ji Hoon, are working hard to try to deliever a good project and people are just criticizing it cause it's not what they wanted or imagined
Just go along with it or don't. Clearly this is just a ridiculous fantasy that's pseudo melodramatic (I say pseudo because even though objectively there's heavy/dark themes, the execution is just ridiculous). We have a king who could EASILY be taken out if people were braver (he couldn't even win a swordfight without intervention). We have the "menacing" Ak Hee who is basically a simp. We have an assassin who doesn't seem like she's murdered anyone. We have a shaman who can magically appear, disappear, and go through walls yet can still be strong armed and/or charmed by Ak Hee & Gyera. Nothing about this drama feels like it's supposed to be taken seriously so why are people missing the point?

Maybe an AU of the webtoon.
