That one has a sad ending too, yes? Iljimae?

Also, you might not mind the ending as much as you think you will. The romance was not the best, and the FL is just okay, so it wasn't as heartbreaking as it could have been.

You could try it and just skip the parts that don't land? Bu I know exactly what you mean. I feel about Iljimae the way you described feeling about The Bridal Mask. I can get into "old Kdrama" mode and then if I go into an old drama with that lens I can still usually see past the flaws to appreciate the good stuff. But I get you, it's hard to do and I don't blame you!

It's mostly a comedy. The FL is ill, but it's not over-dramaticized. There is a SML, but FL is not interested…
Sounds like a good plan! That way you can stalk this thread for spoilers to make sure it ends well. 😉 Some of us are too far in and will crumble into a million unhappy little pieces if they pull a sad ending on us. 😂

Yeah good, i enjoyed it, just like the others. They left out an iconic scene where all the leads are together…
That would be fun! 🤣 Though translating Thyme/Joon Pyo into a female character might be a bit tricky. Though it might actually end up looking a bit like the main leads' characterization in IOTNBO.

Boys over Flowers (Korean) was amongst the first series that I watched. It is pretty close to my heart. So someone…
I also love the Korean BOFs and have a special place in my heart for it. The Thai version clearly takes inspiration from the other adaptations while trying to improve on it. The bullying is pretty bad, there's more language, and it feels a bit edgier and less wholesome than the other adaptations (I imagine that's largely because it's Thai) but the way they handle Thyme's growth (and update his arc) is REALLY good.

Thai is harder on the ears than Korean, Japanese or Chinese (for me, at least), but the drama is super enjoyable and highly rewatchable. Every few months I rewatch the last eight minutes of the last episode (there's no doubt the ending of the Thai version blows the Korean BOFs ending out of the water) because it's just so good. ☺️

This is one of the few "classics" I never got the chance to watch. It would be very outdated for me to watch now,…
I would love a remake of this (with like 3 or 4 episodes shaved off (but keeping the MC's dating era when they finally got along)) and The Bridal Mask (another dated drama that didn't age well but had so much potential to be truly iconic and stellar cause the premise and setting are so cool).

Ugh I love old kdramas. This one especially!! They always make me feel so nostalgic even though I didn’t grow…
So true! So full of problems, but somehow so cozy at the same time. They just hit different from Kdramas these days.

And how many effing slow-mo scenes and drawwwwnnn out stare downs do we really need? Good lort.
I just snickered at the way you expressed this. Had to comment that it made me laugh out loud. I love picking up on a person's unique voice in their writing. ☺️
On Dr. Romantic Season 2 Apr 3, 2024
For all you hypochondriacs who are afraid this will not be watchable, don't worry, you'll be fine! I'm a hypochondriac, and I still LOVE IT. Most of the cases have to do with accidents or injuries or illnesses discovered through scans, ultrasounds, x-rays and which are very obviously egregious health scenarios that are not typical OR subtle, and they involve problems surgery can solve. There's not much in the way of patients reporting symptoms, so they don't make it too easy to identify with the patients' issues or self-diagnose. 😉

do i need to watch season 1 in order to understand 2 and 3? tia
In order to have a better understanding of Master Kim (aka Kim Sa Bu), and some of the other hopsital staff, Season 1 is helpful (and a few things might confuse you or be less poignant without seeing Season 1). It really showcases how unique and special Master Kim is, and Season 2 does less to show off his skills since they already established them in Season 1. That said, Season 1 is not strictly necessary to watch Season 2. Season 2 is my favorite, but the main couple in Season is also fantastic (their chemistry is very good) the ML just takes a while to become likable cause he's a first class jerk for the first half. :) (Don't worry, he DOES become likable; his arc is great, it just takes a while to kick in).

Gotta wait. Drama is just halfway and not even 1/4 of the user watchers rated it.I, for one, only rate a drama…
Same! Way too soon to rate this. The second half is the part that will determine how quality this is, as the last half is where most dramas go downhill.

We will get Happy ending don’t worry from my past experience of the writer Park Ji eun and KSH 😂
Yes, they very intentionally placed "miraculous" in promotional materials. They can't be unaware of the strong message that sends the audience. Cause what would be a miracle in this situation? 1) That Hae In wouldn't die from an incurable disease and 2) that HI and HW could remain together and in love despite all the challenges they've faced. What else could miraculous refer to? Any figurative, symbolic sense of this word used will be deeply disliked.

TvN has to be ready for the fallout. People will howl to high heaven about a sad ending that people expected to be happy just because of that one word...

Title Queen of Tears Spoiler

It's also a made up illness, which is significant, I think. It means the writer can more easily make up a cure. 😁

Yes, I must miss your posts in the huge influx of comments! It definitely is a bit soapy, but then there will be moments that feel very different from a makjang. Maybe it's largely the production quality, which is usually lower for the soapy dramas, yes? I haven't seen anything prior to My Love From The Star by Park Ji Eun, so I don't have anything to compare this to outside of her more recent dramas. I do still think she's setting some trends with how she's doing things. She manages to take cliches and tropes and repurpose them in ways you don't usually see. While this still feels different from a makjang to me, it definitely leans heavily into that genre's tropes and cliches (and I get why people are saying it's more makjang-esque). And I agree that CLOY was more of a classic, just based on what I've seen so far. This has the potential for a better 2nd half (since the good stuff hasn't really happened yet), whereas CLOY had a stronger first half to me. I also feel like CLOY had more likeable characters than QoTs has. Thanks for sharing! :)

Queen of Tears has finally become the number one non English show on Netflix, with 4.3 million views and 41.4…
At this moment, or of all time?

And what are your thoughts? I was curious what you thought but haven't seen your comments in the thread recently. You seemed tentative at the beginning. I have a few episodes to catch up on, but it's very different from CLOY and Legend Of The Blue Sea so far. The screenwriter does indeed seem to be doing something different with this drama.
