Jeez why is everyonw so rude to Jae Il - the only one there who actually wants to be a compasionate and good doctor.....…
But he's kind of obnoxious sometimes? Adorable, but obnoxious. π And sometimes genuinely incompetent and distracted by the social dynamics of his job. People don't ultimately want doctors who are sweet who lack skills. Ideally we want both. But I'd take a doctor with skills who's not nice over a sweet/compassionate doctor without skills. π¬ It's crazy to me that he passed his boards. How did he manage? π
I canβt stand Do Won on my screen. What so good about him? He is almost 40 without life outside of hospital…
I'm not quite sure if your description of him is accurate, though, sure, he's not perfect. But she's no glowing specimen yet, either (she is beautiful, of course, but being beautiful doesn't mean a lot if that's all she has going for her, and she can't take any credit for that; if there's no plastic surgery, it's just genetics π). She has a lot of growing to do at this point in the drama. At least Do Won is mature, kind, skilled at his job, devoted to growing and his patients, and a compassionate senior to his juniors.
In a story like this you just have to turn your brain off. Half of these people would be in prison if this was…
Ooh, I think I'd actually really appreciate that. π
I've never met anyone on MDL who agrees with me about the adult/violence/bullying portrayal in Weak Hero, so it's kind of refreshing to find someone who doesn't think I'm spewing nonsense. π
I realize that a lack of realism is inherent to all entertainment, and even more so with dramas. There's just certain types of writing that deals with the realism or lack thereof in ways that I can stomach more than others. As an adult who works at a school, I struggled with Weak Hero. I liked it as a friendship story, but that was it. I still might watch this season, but Study Group worked better for me because of its tone. The framework it set the violence/bullying/adult involvement within worked so much better for me even though it is more cartoony. But cartoony seems like the more appropriate portrayal for the level of physical violence shown in these schools. Unless you're depicting a high school in the worst districts in the U.S., I'm not buying this level of un-dealt with physical violence AT SCHOOL, even with my limited knowledge of Korean high schools. Psychological/power struggle bullying happening in Korean schools I WILL buy or violent bullying in secluded places or maybe off-campus, but not this stuff.
At least the drama School 2013, which had a lot of fighting flashbacks and even some violent fighting in it, had the self-awareness to show the kids fighting/bullying violently OUTSIDE of school, not in actual classrooms. π

I recall adults being MIA in Season 1; it was one of my biggest issues with the season. I kept yelling at my screen, "Where are the adults? Why are they letting kids get beaten to a pulp in a classroom?" While Study Group was less serious, I appreciated that adults made an appearance and tried to help, and that teacher at least dealt with the issue of teachers not getting as involved when blatant violence would happen.
but then she will be the bad guy again for snitching, that's why she doesn't do anything. dr. myung is resented…
Although Professor Seo did catch her lying, which I was glad to see. Hopefully she's taking notes! Lying is NOT cool that far up in your career in a high profile position where people depend on you; integrity in the medical profession is essential.
Have you seen him in At A Distance, Spring Is Green? I loved him in that. :)
Try AADSPlG, then! He's great and so is the 2ML, his bestie, though there is some child abuse (not sexual, just physical violence) reference and brief scenes in flashbacks, if that bothers you, just fyi!
The nurse was just being human πNow they are even πI'm curious to know what's in store for the trouble making…
Oh yeah, she's awful. At least it seems like some of the other older doctors are picking up on it, at least, that she's lied a few times. Very concerning in a doctor--you don't want them comfortable with lying when it suits them! π¬
Honestly same? I feel like everything is going so fast paced that I barely have time to learn their names, let…
Did the friends in Hospital Playlist meet for the first time in the first episode like the residents here in this drama? These characters aren't really friends yet, right?
Sometimes MDL tags are inaccurate. From the very first episode it was evident that OIY and Do Won are going to…
Where/when did you get the impression Do Won already liked OIY before she liked him? I didn't pick up on that. In Episode 3 he gave very clueless and oblivious vibes to her not-so-subtle hints. π
i don't really understand Oh Yi-young's personality or how she interacts with patients, esp when she tears up…
I think we'll get more to her story as the drama progresses. The leads with confusing or frustrating actions usually have a backstory that will shed light on their behavior. Dramas usually drop that story slowly over time as you get to know the characters (from what I've seen!)?
I am learning new things every episode. About life, doctors, parents and babies. I saw a reel about people voting…
Haha, yes, you'd have to be a very patient, understanding person to date/marry a doctor! And as hard as it is to admit, you probably can't be an excellent parent AND an excellent doctor if you try to do both simultaneously, at least when starting out as a doctor (as the learning curve and time-commitment is MASSIVE) just so-so at both--so which is the most important recipient of your excellence? π€·ββοΈ A tough question to answer as there will be fallout no matter what you choose; either your kids/spouse will see you less or your patients won't have all your time and attention.
I think a lot of people don't think about these things when they go into super demanding, high profile professions... and then it's so hard to change or get out of it once you know the cost involved and spent so much time, blood, sweat, tears, and money getting there...
I don't envy doctors having to make these decisions!
