I haven't seen the drama but from the storyline I can deduce that my girl has no actual substance....or maybe we just gotta wait for it. About him liking her...I agree, its so weird seeing her like him lmaooo...cause shes a teacher and he's her student as of now. Vice versa would be so much more plausible
why did the eps after 6 break me dammit they're whooshing me with emotions.....the main leads are really good actors- -- god sejeong and lee jung won ateee also Shin Do Hyun acts really well....even though i have some tiffs with the way they portrayed romance for both couples. I like the emotional aspect so much ARGHHH

istg the second couple is so imbalanced like u have a neglected fl and your ideal pairing is a guy thats obsessed with her beauty? You gave her no other redeeming qualities at all? You didnt give the second ml no brains nor any sort of tact?
im so mad, I just returned to this drama and the second couple irks me to the core. The first couple is SAVING this drama--if only kdramas stopped putting osts over ever damn scene lol it gets so unserious. i love both the leads and the beer processing is so fun to watch it feels like the director rly does love beer.
Usually the novel is more intricate and explained better...but truly the screenwriter took the best parts of the characters and upped it. Jia Bin Bin deserves recognition (ofc everyone else does, no second thought) for taking it and making it 10x better.
The novel's setting is more patriarchial toned (yet somehow uplifting) and more centered on highlighting Dou Zhao to be different from the rest. At times even Dou Zhao's thoughts are slightly patriarchal (before marriage must follow father, after marriage must follow husband). A lot of the characters are shitty (Dou Ming is a mess lol so is Miao Ansu)
But the drama changes this aspect. Dou Zhao asks about destiny and whether things are predestined to Ji Yong to which he says "You are worried only because things are changing." And the script is akin to his words. Dou Ming changes, her father changes, Song Mo changes and the best of all-Dou Zhao herself changes. It feels nice to see not only the main character but also every small role find a change, which is how the drama stands better than the novel.
I binged read 432 chapters, so i have a good grasp on the story. The screenwriting is absolutely brilliant.
ngl wish we had sumn like black cat fl (brooding, given up on life) and golden retriver ml (loves life) that paired together to create beer....idk seeing Sejeong always being in these "super happy" roles suck. She's a great actress who's potential is not being recognised.

I think its because they didn't create better characterisations for the leads...like they're too good and no one's truly that good. Atleast the ML had certain reservations that made his character interesting...but the FL is too nice for her own being it becomes sorta boring after one point.
Tbh, there's no solid plot to this. The biggest yes to this drama is the fact that they're preaching that men can also be emotional and sensitive which is great, but theres nothing more than that.
I'm confused as to why the comments say they have no chemistry....are we watching the same show cuz....the way they talk with their mf eyes is insane. ISTG, i think the makeup team did well with Xiao Heng's eyes ehehe love me a man in eyeliner. Also Wu Jin Yan....is incredible. Shame to see her not celebrated enough.
I wouldn't necessarily say they had much sexual tension (imo this drama did not need any) but they certainly had romantic tension with the way they bantered and also the way the express themselves and how their relo evolves. Its so beautiful, amidst bloodshed and anguish, its a small glimmer of light they clutch onto--the way they both give and take for each other...i'm so happy to see romance written this way.
I like that we didn't have a lot of typical romance...for a revenge drama this was enough and also love did not get in their way of taking revenge/helping each other for it.
Edit: just finished the drama. I do think mid episodes slightly dragged,which prevented a more cohesive ending (also certain fates could've changed *cough*guards*cough* but overall this is one of the best historical dramas even with the choice of the ending.
