I agree with many of your points and disagree with others. I still don’t think my expectations were so high…
Tbh considering how many assistant writers might've worked on this script...did no one feel the need to make it more....personal? I feel like they relied so much on BWS appearance and KHY cuteness they forgot to factor in characterization.
I'm someone who looks for details, so I understand your points and view them as the criticism i wish the writer could hear, but I do realize after looking at its popularity that most just like the superficial aspects of it and it made sense to me. The last comment was more of something I'd say to myself, so I hope you don't take offense. Thank you for accepting my perspective!
Just gonna say, I find it hella ridiculous that her fam actually did ntg wrong.....her grandfather, a court official simply said something the emperor didn't like and BOOM-- he uproots the entire family. Even the ML does not deny the fact that the Hua family was guilty when the fl argues about it.
Thanks to @Soju istg i sped run this drama and i swear to god, the men (including ml) are spineless as hell. Including the emperor.
Please don't ever compare this to LLTG or The Double or New Life Begins or Jun Jiu Ling--- all of these dramas have actual green flag ml's that stand for the FL.
I loved the women in this drama, esp the Fl and ml's sister, the maids and the Grandma. In the face of shame, unfair explusion and trauma, they shielded their children and took protective stance.
Oh I do love a review that talks about the various loopholes!!
Honestly, they could've given the villain some damn motive, seeing them die is so frustrating when they dont even explain WHY?!?! This was honestly the biggest annoyance. I really wished Sol would've nabbed him and get him arrested.
I do think Kim Hye Yoon did very well. She shows great range(from angst to love), whereas I am kind of disappointed we didn't see more of Byeon Woo Seok (Sunjae's) "depression" arc. I wished we could've seen more than loser, heatbroken Sunjae...something more like a Sunjae that is affected by negative comments, a Sunjae that has fake friends who use him. Tiny details we saw in Im Sol's life ( her ex bf, the gas accident) I want more with Sunjae. BWS felt a stiff halfway through the drama and KHY felt like she had 100 emotions going through her.
It feels like Sunjae exists just for Im Sol, just like how Im Sol exists only for Sunjae. I hate the fact that Sol being disabled was the worst thing that happened in her life (also did anyone realize, the fact she was kidnapped was almost NEVER ADDRESSED). I'm half-half on the fan girl ideal: while kpop/kdrama has a lot of obsessive fangirls, I couldn't help but feel Sol was a little different. For her, who lost hope, Sunjae was her ray of light that helped her survive.
Coming to the actual story: I agree with the flawed writing, the lack of personalisation and details. But to me, Sol frantically going through timelines felt like if anyone of us would be in her position, would do the same thing. Because we never got the details. We never got the usual timeline rules. So we are as lost as Sol is. What the hell was that pattern even? Made no sense at all.
What i really hate was how one dimension things were. Sunjae HAD to be an idol. Sol HAD to protect Sunjae. Sol COULD NOT be disabled.
If this show had a final path where Sol was disabled, Sunjae worked normally, the killer getting arrested--that would've given me butterflies. I think this show really lost on its "relatability" in their relationship. No matter how "fantasy" the setting might be, hell even Chaebol romances like ABP had its relatable moments.
Hard agree on the reason why Sunjae likes/loves Sol. The same for Sol. Liking a singer is different from loving a guy. Thats what confused me, throughout the drama. I didn't understand what made them both this affectionate.
I'm still pissed at the reality that KHY has not received enough praise and attention for her acting. It further simply fufills the fact that fan girls for male actors/idols, can really affect one's career. I've had a lot of articles talking about the gap between the leads in reality.
That being said, some things could be taken at face value. I think sometimes finding the meaning with everything ends up ruining a lot of stuff. This was never a slice of life. I dont expect it to pander deep emotional moments. Technically, this drama delivered its worth and i think thats why people like it.
so underrated....this is easily a 9 in my books. BL's focus too much on catering to woman fetishes and often get lost in toxicity and stupid plots, this on the other hand did not feel like a BL.
It felt more like an actual drama, the kind we watch and leave us in wonder. The character growth, the message, the communication, the breaking of arch-typical characters. This drama weaves fantasy elements in reality, and its so real. If it were any of us, we'd be maniacal and keep spinning that globe.....as someone who struggles with low self confidence, Kawi's struggle of acceptance is real.
Yeah its fucking annoying, but thats how it is for us, we constantly question and judge, even though it stems from sheer low self confidence and not vile judgement. We're human. Not everyone is girlboss, gaslight, gatekeep, and this drama was such a beautiful way to present humanity. lgbtq people deserve this kind of representation.
I kinda wish fl had the more Do Bong Soon vibe.....Nam Soon just gives me "i had meth and it was good" vibes. There's a fine line between happy go lucky and stupid, it felt like she lent on the stupid side more.
I see the people saying "could've been a nice dark romance" with Shi Oh. But i blame the script for not giving the ml enough content and flair to work with. Its a shitty script all in all that wasted a lot of talent.
Ppl watching it cuz bws is hot, yeah do ur thing bro. The humour isnt campy, its lame.
Y'all hyped MaxTul so much, but this is one of the most disappointing bl's in all honesty. I still dk why Korn fought so much for Knock....when Knock was never worth the effort in the first place. Honestly, knock and mew to me are on the same level: in fact, mew is better considering he saves Yihwa and lets go of Korn after he's been rejected. I still do not get why both Korn and Pleng fought so much for trash (recyclable)
The amount of times drugging, cheating (the horrible, i assume rape, because Farm NEVER consented to shit like that), backstabbing--everything is overlooked.
Also, just to be clear, Korn being called "boyfriend-stealer" when he didnt even know Knock had a gf is NOT FAIR. I would've liked it if he refused to sleep with Knock the second time, but, in all his fairness, he expected Knock to breakup considering Knock has expressed his feelings about how he felt comfortable with Korn than Pleng.
I loved Yihwa, she was such a delight to watch, in fact I finished this drama JUST for her, no joke. Although questionable (she drugged Farm to spill the tea) she felt like the only one who actually had a brain. She deserves a better series than Bad Romance (heard bad reviews) cuz Thai BL's are shitty in making good female friends like her.
Also with Farm-Bright(non-recyclable trash), it made me uncomfy AF. Farm needs a better bf than a creepy doctor who's assaulted him. And the teacher-student relo was mid, could've made him a singer and then pursue a romance cause "don't care what others think" is not a slogan for screwing your professor.
very random but, if you want to know exactly how well this game can be played, Going Seventeen, seventeen plays a lot of mafia games (more humorous) but honestly, author is right to say that this game very well could be scary as hell, when put in a dangerous setting. It's an interesting game that is genre transcending (could be funny or scary or romantic). I love this article!
I think the pacing was a little off....plus the flashbacks even repeated for 15 minutes. The mountain god never apologised for being a bitch....honestly I think either they should've just made him chaotic evil from the beginning or given a better complete ending. The beginning was boring, eps 4 5 picked up pace.
I still think it was very cute, plus i think its the first time i've see Eunwoo this into a female lead.....I love Park Gyu Young, she definitely held up this drama in terms of acting.
Its a good filler show, with decent acting, I'd blame the writers for screwing what the webtoon had in store for us, could've just used the same storyline and no one would've complained.
don't you find it absolutely hilarious that Korean ppl are like "noooo drugs???disgusting anyone who does drugs…
Nah frl not seeing anyone comment about how soju is consumed like water.....I get drugs are bad and it should be penalized, but its funny how they the ones with "power" get away with everything. They're more focused on "condemning" people consuming drugs than finding a way to eradicate drugs from the root, which means they'd have to catch the real dealers that sit in high positions.

THE ML AHHHHHHH is so cute, and the FL is so endearing....although mam the bangs are not it plis.
ALSO THE POSTER HAHAHA
Thanks to @Soju istg i sped run this drama and i swear to god, the men (including ml) are spineless as hell. Including the emperor.

Loved this interview, felt more.....natural and pleasant.

Now, lets watch our kdramas easily promote alcholism!
