Title AI Love You Spoiler
Okay, so I'll be the unpopular opinion here because I actually really enjoyed it! Mario and Baifern are great…
Okay, so,

Lana is excited for the date with Bob in the beginning, but because he acts like a jerk, she's crushed and hates him. We see later (and its also shown in the beginning just not directly) that Bob has been watching dumb pick up artist advice. IMO, this is a hint that Bob genuinely liked Lana but made the SAME mistake Dob later makes in thinking the Love Guru really knows what women want. This is a really cool paralell for me that reinforces the whole question of how close to humans can AI get.

In the end, its shown that Dob has been 86% uploaded to the backup (to be returned to the building). That means there's still over 20% Dob inside of Bob. When Lana saves him, he says he's not sure which one he is, because he's both. He also grabs the backup, which I'm guessing at some point theyll figure out how to restore the rest of Dob possibly in another building or a computer somewhere.

Of course, meanwhile, Keno (Lana's building ai) merged with her mind as well, so both leads are have ai in their minds. Its a weird ending, but kind of sweet, because both AI get to live as humans now....so to speak.

The ultimate question left up to the audience is what does that even mean and how separate is an AI's data from a human's memories.

Like...yeah its not the most brilliantly executed thing, but I still really ejoyed it and for just a wild fun romcom, I think it accomplished mostly what it set out to do.

The only REALLY weird thing to me was...did Lana kill a man? Because that certainty seemed to be her foot crushing his windpipe like what??

Okay, so I'll be the unpopular opinion here because I actually really enjoyed it! Mario and Baifern are great in everything, and Mario was absolutely hilarious in this. Sure, it got absolutely wild, but I felt like the movie was building up to that.

Its clearly a romcom and not to be taken too seriously.

Also the AI robot buildings were a really cool idea I've never seen before in quite that way, and i loved how they aall supported each other.

I'll put some spoilers below, including an ending explanation because some people don't seem to be clear on it.

Esther has been in a few remakes of older, classic thai dramas yet. I've seen three of those, and in each of them,…
Oh, sorry, I was just focusing on the actual full on r*pe scenes in that last reply! You're right, there's still a lot of violence, and I totally blocked out that remake of Mia Jun Pen lol, I legit hated Mai's character in it so much, I don't even remember making it to the end?

I mean, even one of my personal favs on GMMTV, Boy for Rent, has the pra'ek push himself on the nang'ek multiple times. It's not totally consensual and still supports that idea that men are just animals who "lose control" when alone with a woman (or at least a woman they want).

We're in the same boat, lol, I love my slap/kiss and problematic guilty pleasures, but I'm also super glad to see it not be so normalized. I remember back in...2015 or so, a survey was done of Thai television, and it found that over 80% of programming contained sexual assault. That's insane! It's one thing to have it as this niche where it's understood to be wrong, but treating it as totally normal is definitely not good.

Yeah, I definitely think it's a trend. I was trying to rack my brain and think of the last time I saw a full on assault in a Thai drama...probably Sanaeha Diary, but that was years ago AND that drama was about the husband being an abusive monster, not a romantic hero.

I think it has something to do with changing attitudes about women and sex too. Like, now if you need your couple to sleep together they can just do that consensually without it being some moral condemnation to the lead female. Back in the day, it basically had to be forced, otherwise your nang'ek wasn't a paragon of innocence (insert eyeroll here). And of course, we're especially seeing this with GMM because of how progressive they are. Their remake of Huajai Sila was GREAT - I mean, yes, lots of manhandling and forced kisses, but it IS still a slap/kiss lol

Thats an interesting point, but I think it's more just changing attitudes and even increased censorship, which is why Sawan Biang has still yet to be remade (although who could possibly match Ken and Anne). Esther's U Prince series with Push had a lot of violent/forceful moments in it. Her remake of Ngao Asoke def had its moments too, though certainly not as bad as the original, true.

Thanks everyone for the spoilers! Now I know it won't make me rage quit like the original lol.

Time to watch this the only proper way to watch any slap/kiss: by skipping all the nangrai's scenes :D

I feel this drama is definitely for the fans of classic sageuk (historical series). I was a bit disappointed at the lack of physical affection between our leads, but honestly it was realistic as our FL is literally a princess. The ML stepping over that line prior to marriage would've been very unrealistic and would have been extremely disrespectful and not suited to his upbringing (despite his gruffness).

But yeah, this feels far more like a classic sageuk with the political intrigue, slower pace, and more historically accurate character interaction. Overall, I really loved it. But if you're more into the modern quick-paced flow of dramas suited for slightly younger audiences, then you might not enjoy it as much (and there is nothing wrong with that). On its own, it's a great series and I was very impressed with Jung Il Woo playing such a different character. He really captured the gruffness of a Joseon head of family in the lower/working classes.

Good point, but also remember that the Joss and Nune drama ending was so poorly received, that they redid about…
loool, full disclosure I haven't started this one yet (came here to see if it was good lol), but yeah, I think the issue was that the original ending felt like a punishment for not just Nune (who certainly did some things wrong but omg give her a break), but ALSO Joss' character, who was SUCH a good guy. They deserved to be happy, and I thought the rewritten resolution addressed it really well...or at least as well as can be with only 20 minutes of material.

It must have been irritating to have to redo the ending for the staff, but damned if Joss wasn't REALLY selling all that bonus cuddling and kissing.

But seriously, if Sawan Biang can have a ridiculous happy nonsensical ending, then anything can! lmao

Personally Get & Yu chemistry holds for me…but knowing how much thai directors value morals no way they can…
Good point, but also remember that the Joss and Nune drama ending was so poorly received, that they redid about the last 20 minutes of the drama and gave us a happy ending instead with lots more Joss and Nune lol

it's the way this show has blackface in it and people are choosing to ignore it.
It's brownface, not blackface. Just as terrible, but impacts a different group of people that encompasses South and SouthEast Asians, Middle Eastern people, Latin people, etc.

In this case, it's rooted in the depiction of servants in Thailand as all dark skinned and unattractive. It's super gross, and they really need to move away from it. The only dark skinned, non-servant actresses I've seen are in GMM, and even when they use them as a romantic interest, they're still mocked for their skin color and it's played for laughs. :/

Men, of course, get more leeway (Weir and Great immediately come to mind), but there will still often be comments about their skin tone, and there's a reason Weir has almost always been cast as the bad boy/gangster/outlaw type.

I really don't get this drama...Why are all these woman being forced to marry just for sleeping with someone?…
This is the problem with Thailand constantly remaking dramas with little change to the plot. The original series is literally from the 1980s!

I mean...I'm not saying it doesn't still happen in more traditional families, but it's a stretch. Thai culture is changing a lot, especially when it comes to views on sexual assault.

I think the best example of a remake of a slap/kiss recently imo is Huajai Sila, where they completely rewrote a lot of things and changed the characterization of not only the male lead, but the relationship dynamics he had with the supporting female cast (which was awesome).

I mean heck, even Ngao Asoke's remake made it waaaay less problematic, and that's a historical series!

I'm still waiting to see if they change the terrible stuff that happens in the latter half of this drama -.-

I think its different, she is black belter in taekwondo soo i hope it wont get lost in the process, plus the sister…
She was a blackbelt in the original. She had straight up fights with the ML lol

The whole ending where he snapped is horrific. Weir really knows how to sell those scenes (which I guess is why they constantly have them in his dramas even when it's just a dream for no effing reason at all...)

You did a pretty good job, especially on the Thai part, but the Oppa part was a bit messy. You're missing the nuance in language and interaction. Oppa is NOT exclusively flirty, though it can be. It's still commonly used to be polite to someone who is a bit older than you, just as noona is. You can see this is plenty of KDrama, variety shows, interviews, behind the scenes, etc. You also have to take into account the generation of the people that are using it, since language is ever maleable.

Also, that clip from Kill Me Heal Me is notable because it's a joke on idol fangirls, who habitually call all their favorite male idols "oppa", often regardless of age.

Oh, and random point: I've always though it interesting that in Thai, there is a counterpart to "P", which is "Nong". If one person is using P, then the older person is typically going to be using Nong. I'm a big fan of this dynamic in Thai romances.

Overall, I think people overreact about the whole thing. It's common in tons of cultures to use familial terms for their significant others, like Baby/babe in English, or Papi and Mami in Spanish. It's just a matter of whatever you're used to in your own culture.
The best part of ep 10 was Fiat and Phu's "intense" encounter, where neither one understood what was actually going on looool. I really enjoy how Phu's actor plays that role.

Fiat and Leo just need to hook up already. I thought it was because Leo was in the closet that they had such a contentious relationship, but now it's...what, Fiat doesn't notice his feelings? He literally asked you to sleep with him! It just feels like they're story is padded to draw it out longer, but ultimately it's just repetitive and makes no sense. It's a shame, because I really appreciate their chemistry.

Honestly I like Fiat, but he needs WAY more time and development for us to empathize with him. I find myself trying…
Right?! Instead I'm over here constructing my own backstories in my head so I get their actions better. Like come on, Mame, you've definitely written better development than this!

I may not be here for Champ and his doctor, but I feel you on the puppy angle. I'm currently watching Oxygen the Series which has SUCH mixed reviews, and I'm actually really enjoying the gentle sweetness (for as long as it lasts lol). It's like a breath of fresh air. Reminds me of Korean "Healing" dramas (just, yanno, way less production value lol)

Fiat is driving me up the walls, I don't understand anything he does. that whole scene with him crying? I was…
Honestly I like Fiat, but he needs WAY more time and development for us to empathize with him. I find myself trying to construct my own back story for him. He seemed genuinely terrified when Leo told him to leave. Does he have anywhere to go? It seems he's actually been living in Leo's house this whole time. He's out to his friends...did his parents kick him out? He said himself he has no one but Leo, did he mean that literally?

His attempts towards Type are obviously because he wants a caretaker, and his active posting about Type is to get Leo to notice it. Leo is clearly in love with the kid, but closeted about it (or not aware himself). But yeah, this series is REALLY suffering from a lack of time for development on the supporting couples.

Funny enough, I've been skipping Champ and Doctor because their acting (in my opinion) is subpar at best and I find their scenes boring lol, but I'm glad you're enjoying them!
Replying to J100 Dec 12, 2020
Leo is really hot, I don't mind to watch him on screen all the drama, the rest of course is boring
I agree with you, but my complaint wasn't about their marriage conflict, but just ep 6 where Type is acting jealously for simply no reason at all. I know he's a grumpy boy, but his actual reasoning as it was written was shaky lol. Then again, he could've been transferring his anger at his boss to Tharn, which now that I think of it, is VERY in character for Type.

I agree with you about the lemon, lol. But I also think that this is the same issue we see in nearly every continuation of a BL series. It'd be nice to see a continuation where they're just focused on building their relationship, and stronger newer characters are shown working on their OWN issues separately, which would be the main draw of the drama. Like the couple we love that's already together would just be a bonus throughout the series. (Something GMM did quite well in the U-Prince series and My Dear Loser)

WOW I enjoyed this so much more than I thought I would until that garbage ending. This literally could've been a typical thai drama if you swapped class differences for being gay and made Rob a bright-eyed nang'ek turned jaded and vengeful.

Still, the chemistry was pretty great and the performances were solid. Just...that ending, oof. Big let down.
