Oh goodness, I actually was talking about lakorns - as in the mainstream straight stuff! There are three hetero romances that include rape, that I've seen this year, but you're right about the BLs. Honestly the majority of Thai BL still includes no-con scenes, if if we aren't talking about full penetrative assault.
There's a whoooole discussion to be had about how non-con seems way more common and is treated as acceptable in BL though, and that includes violent and abusive behavior too. It's like because it's between men, they don't treat it the same, which is a very toxic concept based in hegemonic ideas of men being stronger, tougher, and more violent by nature.
the character development is great though, thats why is I still keep watching. Im curious how the writer will…
I've been on the fence about this drama, but this made me want to try it out. Thank you for the explanation. I had infidelity, but what I REALLY can't stand is when it occurs AFTER the leads fall for each other. If the pra'ek stops after (or before) realizing his feelings, it doesn't feel so bad.
I've already posted my dislike for "redos." Although, I don't really have a problem with "reboots." I'm just a…
Not that it makes it all better, but I'm pretty sure Techno was referring to the morning after and not the night of the rape, since he couldn't actually remember anything. He and Kengkla did it again the morning after Kla asked him to be his boyfriend. The first season showed the lead in to that.
There's a place for non-con fantasy, but I agree that it is far too prevalent in BL. It's gotten a lot better in recent years, but it still shows up, just as it still shows up in slap/kiss Lakorns (I've seen it in 3 major series this year, which was pretty shocking tbqh)
Okay, so I watched the first two eps, literally after rewatching the first season for like the fourth time, and I actually think it's pretty great. First off, I love how Mame gave us some Canteen closure from the drop, THEN pedaled back. That was nicely done.
Everyone is still in character, but the acting is better, things are a bit less comical, and honestly Tin and Can's story has been reworked to make more sense. Like why Can would avoid a real relationship, why Tin would have so much interest in Can, and overall the antagonizing and abuse was dropped a bit, which is honestly good. In the first season their break up was inevitable, because their connection was tenuous at best. It seems like Mame worked the story so that their reconciliation will fit better.
Also, a note about Ae: Some are saying he is out of control and isn't in character. I beg to differ, because he had this same problem in season 1 when it came to Pete, and this is literally why he's in the situation (ask me if you want a spoiler on the novel and why they're broken up and I'll put it below). But yeah, if you're familiar with it...it fits. And the fact that he's torn up about it because he NEVER wanted Pete to go out of his way for him like that. He wanted to be the one to always take care of him. So now he's dealing with guilt over that and not being able to be with the one he loves. It fits really really well.
Anyway, yeah, so far I'm feeling pretty good about it and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes and getting closure on some of my favorite side couples!
I feel like I'm the only one who really liked the first 2 episodes! I really enjoyed so far the remake of Tin/Can.…
Naw, I just watched them and I enjoyed it a lot. In fact, I literally just rewatched the first season for like the fourth time (am big fan) and THEN watched the two eps and I think people are out of their daggom minds, because everyone is still very much in character and it's great.
Wow, FINALLY got up the nerve to watch this (I was always hesitant because of the horror aspect but I love Gun sooooo much, so I finally went for it), and I was VERY impressed. It definitely has that very slow, heavy build that a lot of indie movies have, so be prepared for that. This movie is designed to gaslight the viewer. In the end, you may still be wondering what was real and what wasn't. And that's okay. That's the entire purpose.
Sawan Biang is literally my favorite lakorn (I have problems and the performances are amazing lol), and I still…
I meant Prom Pisawat doesn't make sense, but I am down to tell you why SB is my fav, lol, pls bear with me:
First off, the performances are amazing. Ken is just about the best actor I've ever seen in a lakorn, full stop. It's his incredible skill that makes Kawee a sympathetic character, despite him doing terrible terrible things. The story is also super tightly written. There isn't a whole lot of extra bs, but it stays focused and any tangential story lines clearly tie into the main plot. Kawee's actions are horrifying and unreasonable to a sane person, sure, but they do match exactly what he's trying to accomplish, at least until he just...probably has no end game and wants to stay with Narin indefinitely. Still, all his actions match the fact that he is this incredibly entitled, powerful, broken child of a man who is desperate for some modicum of love and affection that feels real. The vulnerability he shows at times, and the naked screaming pain of a child who never felt truly loved by his father is utterly heart breaking during those scenes Ken lets that come through in her performance.
Ken and Anne really gave their all for their performance. Not only was their chemistry amazing, but they got so intensely physical with their scenes together, it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
I also have to highlight Leela, who is an amazing nang'rai that actually has character development and isn't simply generically evil for no discernible reason at all.
Finally, Kawee has one of the longest, ost intense periods of redemption of any pra'ek ever, and during it he is given a taste of what he put Narin through and comes to truly regret his actions and understand how he hurt the woman he actually loves. He literally gives up everything to her and their child in the end, and asks for nothing in return, which is what finally allows Narin to accept him.
I mean, irl? It doesn't happen like that lol, and it's terrible. But as a fantasy of an abuser that actually regrets their actions and seeks reform? I can't get enough of that do to my own experiences is all.
Am I the only one who appreciates the retelling of Container Couple’s story ?
I haven't watched it yet, (waiting for Viki to release it), but I think people are being way too hard on Khun Mame (the writer) for that decision. Like this is her baby. Maybe trust her a little more with it and where she wants to go?
Naw, they're literally my favorite couple. Like, yeah, I know the consent was...questionable at best. (j/k it…
Yeah, you are def not alone, like if you follow Lazy Subber you'll see lots of support for them in the comments. I think a lot of people are hesitant to openly say the aren't disturbed by plots like that these days, and honestly I think it's GREAT that sooo many fans, especially young fans see how a lot of these relationships are harmful and toxic. But non-con is also a valid thing that plays into power fantasies. It is sooo much more complicated lol.
Though man, it always weirds me out because every time I talk about LBC, I point out that Ae violated Pete's consent twice (in the locker room and in his dorm when Pete was asking him to stop but eventually gave in), and everyone just handwaves it away. TharnType also had an outright assault (the shower scene). It seems like everyone has their line and it's almost random where it falls lol
Naw, they're literally my favorite couple. Like, yeah, I know the consent was...questionable at best. (j/k it was premeditated rape), but I'm also a huge fan of thai drama and I'm so used to it by now. Non-con is a fantasy but yeah it's something Thailand still has to figure out. It's gotten less prevalent, but still shows up every now and then and is still quite prevalent in BL.
The biggest problem with this drama is that the lead male's suffering doesn't remotely justify the level of revenge he's taking. Like, yes, slap/kiss is always a crazy intense ride and pra'ek's usually fall into this unreasonable never ending mire of vengeance, but nothing happening actually justifies what he does in any sense of the matter. From the beginning it isn't reasonable, and there's no real descent into misunderstandings and imagined betrayal either. I mean, yeah, Anon wants the nang'ek, but there isn't any reason to believe that they're doing anything together. There's no imagined betrayal going on, not even like there was in the beginning with his assumptions about her sleeping around.
The second problem is that in this day and age, a nang'ek who behaves like a doormat isn't compelling. I get that she's sad, but good God she just lets him treat her however, and while that might be very sad and moving, it isn't entertaining in the least, and that's the whole point of slap/kiss. The nang'ek needs to be and strong face down the pra'ek. It's what made the drama enjoyable in the beginning, but vanished halfway through and went steadily downhill.
I'm certainly going to finish it. This still has some strong moments and some good supporting characters. The chemistry is still great, but the story is a mess and I do find that a shame. Channel 7 is always very hit or miss, so I can't say I'm totally surprised anyway. Oh well, hopefully So Wayree will stay as good as it has been.
To all those who don't like dominating male lead and machist men. You shouldn't watch lakorns. Even though it…
Sawan Biang is literally my favorite lakorn (I have problems and the performances are amazing lol), and I still can't handle this one. It's just...it doesn't make sense. The nang'ek is way too weak and the actual "suffering" of the pra'ek doesn't equate to the revenge he's dishing out. It's that last part that's the biggest sticking point. Pra'ek's be crazy, but THIS just doesn't make sense. Even the rape makes no sense from a slap/kiss pov, because she's been willingly sleeping with him the whole time. There's no purpose. It's just MEAN.
Ugh, man, I'm gonna finish because I'm so far into it, but I'm so disappointed this this is the material they were stuck with, and Channel 7 rarely ever pairs two actors together more than twice. I really wanted them to get a great drama, but this ain't it.
I watch mainly Thai BLs and not watched lakorns but this show sounds interesting but your comment about R being…
As for So Wayree....that beginning is so complicated. The actors did an interview where the male lead explained that his character is suppose to register as super drunk and not aware of the condition of Mitra at the time. He even tries to stop, but she pulls him in to continue and knocks the condom off the table. Still wrong and super complex, but not a straight forward assault, and I doubt they'll be an actual one later between them.

I think I might wait for some slight spoilers on this one lol

And he did it THE NIGHT AFTER THE MOB BOSS TRIED THE SAME THING ARE YOU KIDDING ME
Y'all, my favorite Lakorn is literally Sawan Biang and even Ican't handle Pol's level of nonsense!
