This is what I mean when it came to pursuing her. Not the groveling type. As for LMT, I meant pursue as allowing CXZ the chance to fight for it, and not shunning him away when she knows she likes him too.

I think they should pursue each other properly. Not one or the other. Both of them. It takes two to tango after all. xD
Also, CXZ can pursue her without being a simp so it's kind of irksome for it to go that way. As for comedic license, I guess, alright. Make him a simp. It's out of character though. π
Good points but you remember that scene from ep 6 where she follows him to see the pony show he put on of him…
I never said he didn't do anything wrong. I also said her feelings are valid. You said it yourself his goal wasn't to give her that impression. Playing along with it was a choice to keep hiding his trail (wrong or not depends on how each viewer understood it). At which point does it make it okay for any logical person to reveal some truths to a person they are cautious of? He also wasn't fully certain if her memories returned and if they fully did, all the more reason he had to be cautious. At least on my end, if I'm thinking you are a threat to me, (in any shape or form) regardless of me liking you, I will not share with you any truths until I'm certain you can't harm me or that we can strike some form of agreement. She also already pretended to have amnesia still and acted cold towards him even before all the revelation. Calling it quits with him and then still showering him with harsh words after the fact is uncalled for. He wanted to tell her the truth she was asking for but she stopped him from doing it (cause she wanted to live in the pretense that they were in love and wanted to leave it at that). She made a choice. ML respected it. Why put the blame on ML for something she herself decided on? At this point, the weight of punishment the ML deserve varies depending on who watches it. But let's not make it a case as if FL, prior amnesia, wasn't responsible for anything that happened to her from there, and moving forward. They both played according to the cards handed to them. Amnesia or not.
P.S. I do find some of ML's actions off putting. Again, he isn't a purely good person. But that's a separate issue from why I think LMT's treatment of him is unearned.
The way some people think FL's feelings are being invalidated just because others were saying ML doesn't deserve the treatment she's giving him is weird. No one is invalidating her feelings. And saying ML does not deserve her treatment of him doesn't make ML immediately without fault. Are we all even watching the same thing? Throw away the feelings of the characters for a second and go back to what their original purpose is at the beginning.
LMT is Lu Wen pretending to be her own concubine. This is so she can escape a marriage she doesn't want. All the while, she is this drama's Robin Hood (punishing the wicked, promoting goodness and justice) and is behind Ziyu fighting a noble cause (note that at this point, Ziyu's existence is not known to many and those who do, don't know his real identity save for a few). LMT is likeable and reasonable here. She is smart, she is her own person, and she fights a good fight.
CXZ as Lord Huaiyang (and Cui Jiu meaning surname is Cui and is 9th *Jiu in rank) is an official in pursuit of the bandits doing illegal iron transport (which btw, may be used to create weapons that can be used to usurp against the royal family) and is in constant back and forth with bandit leader Lu Wen (whoever that is as he never has seen that person's face). Regardless the cause of the bandits as Robin Hoods: stealing and giving to the poor, the fact remains that they steal from people and CXZ has the authority and a kingdom rule to back him up, to capture them. Going through lengths that sometimes might be questionable (but that's another issue for debate). Here, CXZ is a commendable official who upholds justice and who protects the people.
Are they both purely good people? No. But are they good people based on their beliefs, purpose, and how they chose to act on them? Yes.
Why is it that some people think ML doesn't deserve FL's treatment of him?
Case 1: He lied to her about being married. β’ He found her knowing she is Lu Wen's (the threat to national security) concubine. She woke up calling him husband. He basically sat there probably having a different plan but changed course when the opportunity presented itself.
Case 2: He continued to lie to her. β’ He wasn't sure if she was faking amnesia. And once he learned she really lost her memory, he wasn't sure when it will be triggered. Was it wrong to lie? Yes, generally. No, he was cautious because she can hurt not only him but more people (esp since she's known to be good in martial arts).
Case 3: He caged her through that fake marriage. She was a free woman (or at least wanted to be). β’ No, he didn't cage her. He capitalized on the opportunity to investigate and catch the enemy. It wasn't his doing that she has amnesia. He found her like that. As Lu Wen, she was prevented from pursuing her cause (not because CXZ caged her but because she couldn't even remember what she was fighting for). As LMT who can't remember who she is, she did everything she wanted to do (which to some of us is far from caging). CXZ doesn't even know she created concubine identity to free herself from a marriage she doesn't want.
Case 4: He wanted to kill her. β’ Yes, as a person involved in a brewing movement that counts as treason, she is punishable by death.
Case 5: Viewers are invalidating FL's feelings. β’ No. She has the right to feel betrayed because she was, despite learning to love CXZ. She learned their marriage is fake. At this point, she knows more things than CXZ, including the real reason why the truce was broken which led to both parties losing people. He is still unaware of it.
FL knows everything: what she was fighting for, Ziyu's real identity, who broke the truce, how CXZ really feels about her. None of these, except his feelings for her, is privy to CXZ. Hence, her actions towards him seems to be unearned. She is in the position of more understanding, given her knowledge of the bigger and whole picture (she even knows what CXZ is fighting for). Nobody asks her to easily forgive him. People are just wondering what warrants her bad treatment of him especially when they have called it quits.
If people can question why FL's feelings are being invalidated (even if they aren't), surely others can question why ML's feelings should be shunned on the side because of FL's feelings.
I know this is long and I won't say more words about it. We can all agree to disagree and enjoy the series, how we understand it. I haven't read the novel so I have no comment on that either (in case people would mention that). Basically, to each, his own. βοΈ
It's kind of funny though that she was the one who lit the fire and stabbed him to end all relations/connections…
Some comments make it seem as if ML kew a lot of stuff all along when in fact, FL knew more than he does the moment she regained her memory. π People seem to forget that while it is true that FL's cause is noble, in ML's pov (who had no idea of the noble cause), she is acting against the law. Hence, he acted the way he did. FL knows this too, in her heart, that's why she cried when she stabbed him.
Sorry, for now, LMT no longer deserves CXZ. LMT knows that she has been used by Ziyu the entire three years and…
And I'm here giving her the benefit of the doubt. That she does that so Ziyu will be complacent around her. That of course, she didn't want to involve CXZ in her plans cause it might not work if he knows. Otherwise, they just made her character undeserving of him in more ways than one.
I just love this thread. Finally, a conversation about both leads being gray characters.
Idk, it's just that I'm starting to get tired of people making CXZ's character iredeemable when in reality, many people would do what he did. And while I think LMT was harsh to him than he deserved, I don't dislike her. They just both did what they thought was right based on who they are, what authority they have, and which principle they uphold. Seeing them defend LMT as if she didn't have any contribution on how she ended up the way she did is just funny. Not only is her character being justified unreasonably, but it also makes her seem like a damsel in distress when she is not even with amnesia.
The series is picking up, and more people are appreciating it now, so I'm just stunned. π I guess we'll see what happens soon enough esp when the story's getting more interesting.
