I love Xiao Zhan too, but I won't really mind so much if he doesn't keep his role in this for the 2nd season. What I WOULD mind a lot though, will be if they change the actors for Emperor (Chen Dao Ming), Chen Ping Ping (Wu Gang), Uncle Wu Zhu (Thomas Tong), Wang Qinian (Tian Yu), and Haitang Duo Duo (Xin Zhi Lei).

Well, there's not outright on your face showing of affection (like a love confession), and there's not viewable physical intimacy (like kisses & hugs). But there's definitely countless smaller or bigger shows of affection & subtle intimacy between the leads. Enough to know their relationship is one of a kind. I hope that answers your questions!
