Ok I get that everyone did not love the open ending but I didn’t mind it. It’s always nicer to have an epilogue but in this case I was ok with it. We all want the perfect happy ending but sometimes responsibilities come first, in this case a kingdom. The open ending allows me to believe that with time passing they could maybe finally find a way to be together again.
I completely agree that it should have been longer and the ending did feel rush. Director spent a lot of time flushing out all the other stories except hers, she deserved more. This happens way too much with Chinese dramas, great series and then rush through the end.
Aside from that I really loved the story and character development. Loved the bromance and so sad to say goodby to some. Especially the last one, so heartbreaking.
Chen Zheyuan embodied his role as the emperor and it was gratifying to see all the reforms he made which you never see in Cdrama. The scene of him getting punished to change the marriage law for the empower was epic. There were definitely a few new ideas that have seen before.
Wi Jinyan did a great job acting as Meng Tinghui, she was such a badass and throughout I appreciate how the character staid true to herself, beliefs and goals.
I loved all the supporting charactersI especially Fuzhi and zhishu. The gave me the love story and intimacy I was craving that I didn’t get from the leads.
It was perfect but still well worth the watch 8.5/10

Episode 8 is hardcore. The villain is next level evil and I hate him but kudos to the great acting . Hae in is amazing, all his fight scenes are crazy good. Yes this definitely not the typical sweet romance.
Please ignore all the jerk haters! I’m currently on episode 8 and it’s been a great watch. Leads have great chemistry, lots of plot tension, villain is crazy evil and great pacing. I’m really enjoying it!
Watched it for Li Hongyi, he looked so amazing here. It was a fun watch with some great steamy sciences. Decent scheming plot. Hope to see him on screen more
Why is the score so low, this is so good!!! Score should be much higher now that subs have been fixed and we are back to 2/day. Story and acting is awesome, loving all the buildup and tension. Love how the leads are working together now..
I love Zheng Linghe and will watch anything with him in it. I had such high hopes for this drama and hopes to t wouldn’t be like every other republican era. Sure enough the same painful storyline, always lies, misunderstandings, tormented love, betrayal and death. It is absolutely torture for an audience to watch and unfortunately I gave up on it. I feel bad about giving up but my nerve endings and emotions just couldn’t take it anymore.
Hopefully some people liked it, I will wait for the next Zhang Linghe drama to watch.
These subtitles’ translators are so blasphemous, they are translating the emperor as the holy one:-(
I’ve put on hold until Viki catches up. I get too angry trying to watch the MangoTV subs. I wish there was someway for everyone to provide feedback to them. There Eng Subs are always crap!
Loved everything about this drama, gritty, dark and dark/light. One of the darkest villains I’ve ever seen, hated him with everything. I was truly hoping for Payback but I found the karma resolution a little disappointing. I wanted that creep to suffer, dying was too easy. The last 2 episodes were not quite as strong as the rest.
I understand that letting go of the hate for the main characters was probably better for the their emotional growth but damn it I wanted the satisfaction of retribution.
ToptapMinLee had the most amazing chemistry, sexy , push/pull and their NC scene was truly the best I’ve ever seen. Hope to see them in more

I absolutely love this universe and after seeing all the GMTV Actors at the end, you know that no one else could have been Thee except pond. I haven’t laughed this hard in a long time. Hope we still get Rome and Moks story.
Viki has delayed release but I will have to rewatch these episodes. The subtitles are so bad….MangoTV really needs to work on their subs and this is not the first drama they have butchered. Between subs and 1/day, it’s very frustrating. This drama is so good and needs better support.
Having a hard time putting into words how I feel about this drama….its one of those moments where you reflect and the emotions hit so hard. I absolutely LOVED this series, I expected a typical BL with lots of sex but got so much more, the depth, the emotions, what a roller coaster ride. I have been watch BLs for so many years and this truly is a masterpiece. I was truly invested and immersed in this story. Fresh, unique script, stunningly beautiful production, brand new acting leads were absolutely amazing and so talented. Kudos to the director for taking us where he did, cinematography, lighting, editing…I can’t say enough and then there is the OST…just wow, absolutely elevated the scenes and audience emotions. I’ve added at least 5 new songs to my playlist, on repeat.
I truly hope we saw more of these young actors and directors work
