This is one of those movies where I end up not liking or sympathizing with ANY of the main characters because their own behaviors and choices, which result in multiple bad outcomes, are so repellent and stupid. And it's difficult for me to like a movie in which no one exhibits any redeeming qualities or seeks to change or has the ability to self-reflect. They all seem sort of pathetic.
BUT...for some reason I'm glad I watched this and wouldn't dissuade anyone else from seeing it. It is...interesting and on occasion fascinating.
One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Please don't watch. It was only annoying and stupid. The 18+ scenes were…
I found it both annoying and interesting. So while it's far from the best thing I've seen I would tell people to give it a shot and see what they think. Not that you asked.
That's an interesting idea, though I've seen it explored in other gay film genres. My own opinion that it is almost…
"tons of cultures have done..." polyamorous relationships? If that's what you mean of course that is true, but I suppose it depends on what one means by them "working." You don't think there were/are issues of jealousy and hatred among competing sets of multiple wives/husbands or among partners in ongoing polyamorous relationships? I'd say you're kidding yourself. BUT I made it pretty clear I was talking about MY OWN standards for a relationship, not society's.
As for why I said the three MCs in this flick are "crazy," well, one of them, a fully-grown man/child, runs around the neighborhood shooting pellets from a gun at random people even though he has already blinded one kid in the eye. After he shoots he hides and giggles to himself like a psychotic three-year old. That is pretty fucking sociopathic/ crazy regardless of how he got that way.
Then we have that crazy little shit's BF, who remains in relationship with this kid, even as he continues marauding the neighborhood putting lives at risk and even as the BF continues to be harrassed and threatened by the kid and his father who want more and more money in payment for what the psycho BF did to the eye. Remaining in a relationship with a self-evidently mentally-ill individual who refuses to change and is seeking no treatment is a good sign that you yourself have mental/emotional issues. Why is that the best he thinks he can do for a BF?
Then we have the third dude who came down from SK chasing the other army guy and continues to pursue him and pine for him long after he has been told multiple times to get lost. Plus the object of his affections treats him like dirt, is extremely rude to him, has sex with the gun-shooter with the door open to taunt him, and gives him the occasional blowjob apparently for no other reason than to string him along.
Yeah, i'm pretty confident in saying all three are mentally ill.
My spoiler post below got way longer than I intended. This movie grabbed me by the gut and it seems the more I wrote the more I wanted to say. So, to anyone who's interested, I spilled my guts in the post below.
Sorry, but I am not on board with what appears to be the message of this little film: That in cases such as Earth and Non's and Non's family, it is Frame's moral obligation to just let this "gray secret" be as it is. I've thought about this a lot and I call bullshit, especially in regard to the director's cheesy little lines of rationalization masquerading as philosophizing at the end of the film.
Once P'Non the pig tells his WIFE what is going on and she decides SHE is OK with it, then I'm OK with it. But until then Non and Earth are pulling off a huge con job and if I was Frame I would lose all respect for Earth and wouldn't be able to be close to him anymore. Earth is participating in a fundamentally humongous lie and he is entirely aware of it. He has decided to sell a part of his soul for the monthly rent and free meals out on the town. Maybe the sex is great too, I don't know. None of that matters. Earth and Non are living a lie, which is worse than telling a lie because this one goes on and on 24 hours a day, seven days a week indefinitely. How would I ever trust such a friend about anything else in his life? I wouldn't.
Of course this kind of thing goes on all the time, that doesn't make it OK. LOTS of horrible things happen everyday. That doesn't mean that when we see a horrible thing happening in our own frame of reference we don't try to prevent it or fix it. I'm thinking this out as I write, but it seems to me that Earth and Non have made Frame a part of their lie by expecting him to KEEP IT for them. Why is he obligated to do that any more than he is obligated to go to Non's house and tell the wife what's going on?
Wow, the more I think about this right now, the less sure I am of what I would do in Frame's situation. Honestly, I felt increasingly sick to my stomach as this film progressed. I can't imagine feeling that way every single day, as I think Frame does. He is truly in a bind here. I hope he finds someone he can really trust, someone with some perspective on life, someone he respects, to whom he can spill this sordid tale and seek advice on how to proceed.
As I said, if the wife agrees to this ongoing arrangement then fine, let them all do as they please. But until that happens it seems like I wouldn't be OK with carrying this knowledge around every day, and it pisses me off that Earth is perfectly fine with leaving Frame with that burden. Earth seems fine now with being a kept boy with a temporary sugar daddy as long as he gets the $$$, but that doesn't mean Frame is required to be a part of the sickness going on here too.
Maybe I'd try to find some way of allowing the wife to find out what's going on for herself, rather than just telling her directly. I don't think I could live with this. And I wouldn't worry about losing Earth as a friend because I wouldn't consider him one at this point anyway. Maybe I'd tell Non he has three days to tell her or I'll do it. God, I'm not sure! lol Non's liable to have me knocked off if I made that threat, so maybe not.
Anyway...Non's son knows now, so maybe it's a matter of time until it all blows up. That knowledge is going to be eating away at him too, especially every time he's home and watching his dad live that lie right in his mom's face.
There's also always the chance of Non bringing home a nice little venereal disease to his wife also. Do we really trust that Non won't be boffing any OTHER rent boys on the side along with Earth? Why should Earth continue to feel obligated to remain faithful to Non when Non is obviously fucking his wife on the nights he's not fucking Earth? So maybe Earth picks up HIV or something and gives it to Non and Non brings that gift home to the wife...or Non picks it up from someone else. The stakes here are huge.
8 out of 10 for me. This kind of an ending, which I've seen too many times, feels like a cop-out. A quick/cheap way of backing off on most everything that went before. I found it to be a good ride up until everyone ran into each other taking out the trash in the middle of the night.
It's fine that you are put off by explicit torture and sex, but if you are going to start fast-forwarding through scenes that may contain elements crucial to understanding the plot/story, why keep watching at all?
Also, I tried to watch "Human Centipede" and found it too revolting/disgusting even for my jaded soul. I am shocked you think this film is "worse." They are on two completely different levels of gore/violence/mayhem/sickness, plus the story behind the centipede concept is utterly ridiculous and stupid, as it would never work.
"The one i would like to point out is how realistic the gay characters of this drama are. They might as well be…
I'm sorry you are a poor writer, unable or unwilling to make their arguments clearly and their statements unequivocal. "people like me." lol Typical way to run away crying when you can't defend your position.
Please stop "helping" LGBTQ youth. God only knows the messages you're conveying to them about the realities of being gay.
"The one i would like to point out is how realistic the gay characters of this drama are. They might as well be…
So your a gay person full of internalized homophobia and self-hatred. Thats nothing new. It's as old as gay identity.
You didn't answer my implied question, of course. Do you or do you not believe there are terrible, horrible dark sides to the areas of straight sexuality and 'straight life.' Your original statement implies the opposite, that there is a terrible dark side to gay life in contrast to straight life, where there are no shadows or darkness.
And it's just sad that you wouldn't recommend series/films that deal with the dark sides of gay life to other people. Why not? It's one great and powerful way for people to discover things they are ignorant of. You want to encourage people to remain in ignorance because watching a dark-themed show might make them uncomfortable? You're not much of an advocate, then. Straight people NEED to be made uncomfortable about how gay people are treated, in Asia and around the world.
There are hundreds of movies put out every month that deal with dark sides of straight life. You don't have to look for them, they are all over the place. Good lord.
It totally is. I'm just mocking the SJWs who show up here shrieking about every "problematic" and "toxic" element of a BL that makes it interesting or juicy.
I’m glad Mew got away from this awful series honestly
How did he get away from it. I agree that he should never have been in it. I think he's a fine actor and stuck out like a diamond in the few scenes he had in the trashy script.
"The one i would like to point out is how realistic the gay characters of this drama are. They might as well be real life personas. Gay life in reality isn't as most of these dramas make it to be. It has a very dark side to it. Some parts of which were seen in this drama. "
I almost can't believe I just read this or that you wrote it. Do you have any clue how homophobic this paragraph of yours is? I am gay and I'm here to tell you to fuck yourself. There is not ONE dark theme in this series that does not exist among straight people. Gay life "has a very dark side to it..." Really? And straight life doesn't? Who the fuck are you and what century is your brain functioning in? Seriously, fuck off.
Wow, this is just really pretty horrible. Any future director who wants to learn now to take a script including rich, powerful themes of alcohol and drug abuse, sexual assault, sexual promiscuity, unsafe sex, venereal disease, HIV, sexual addiction (Pent), INCEST (yay!), obsessive love, relationship challenges, religion, betrayal, sexual and romantic infidelity, homophobia, kidnapping, S&M, self-harm, childhood abandonment, selfish/hateful parents, self-hatred and internalized homophobia, coming out and a whole lot more and turn it all into a tedious, boring, four-hour snooze-fest that makes very little rational sense, should DEFINITELY study this series closely. Somehow it managed to be worse than its successor WTD?.
Even a few almost-hot sex scenes couldn't save it. I was going to make a list of flaws but it would go on forever and I'm sure they are covered in the comments below so I'll skip it.
Some good acting in spots from specific actors but overall pretty bad. How is it that the evil slut Pent turns out to be, with the exception of Pop, the most decent, consistent person in the story?
Oh dear God, Pi, why are you so thick in the head? :D Also, to the filmmakers, it was supposed to be an upside…
I agree about the first part of your post, but not the second: Those gay sons, their parents and their partners are going to have the most beautifully-decorated holidays of anyone in the neighborhood year-round. The mom will be the queen bee of her husband and SIX sons, no nasty daughters-in-law to contend with. The guys can have kids by surrogate or adoption, so there will still be grandkids. So what, exactly, is there NOT to like. :D
I dont know if you are trolling in this comment section, seriously? Or are you only child?Just rewatch (for you)…
Why do you think I'm an only child? I have three siblings. "Toxic." lol You forgot to mention "Problematic." haha
I'm insulted that you think I am trolling. I am sincerely concerned for the viewers of this series who are being exposed to toxic, problematic scenes of nut-punching without consent, sexual assault, incest (nut-punching your brothers), and other dangerous tropes that objectify men, compromise their sexual integrity and fetishize gay male sexual practices (the oldest brother's foot into Pi's anus is a common sexual act among men who have sex with men). I'm not going to remain silent when I see such dangerous content in the BLs I love.
You seem to imply TharnType is problematic. If so, why have you watched it for the Nth time?
I would love to hear which BLs you find to be "wholesome." :)
Do we need to discuss how the youngest and oldest brothers sexually assaulted Duean by not getting signed and notarized permission from him before they held him down, legs spread wide, and pretended to kick and punch him in the nuts? I feel that his sexual agency was violated and he will suffer permanent psychological trauma from this. His brothers should be charged and jailed immediately.
Can't wait til dad finds out all three of his sons are gay as fuck. :D
