For me it was definitely your 2nd explanation, as we were immediately shown his conflict as JT's view and we got an insight into his emotional world. If it was 1, why would he have thought of this scene from the past?
Edit: JT was also portrayed throughout the episode as being awake every night...

I love how Sheng Wang got a reality slap several times today and is now on the verge of bursting 🤭 Wonderful storytelling again today and Eric and Benjamin are simply first class... Looking forward to tomorrow. I could watch them forever.
I do wonder why everyone is expecting a sad ending though. I'm expecting a positive ending with a possible open ended element (Qi Jia Hao). Props also to Tim Sheng, he really manages to make me dislike his role at all 😅

I have to say that I really enjoy the series. However, I didn't expect it to be "serious" from the start. I was expecting a playful, imperfect Joker and a series that had a certain humorous undertone. In the end, my expectations have been fulfilled so far. I think it's great to see the very versatile War, who is probably having the time of his life playing the various roles. I honestly don't understand the complaints about the fashion show either. I've generally had the feeling from the beginning that many things in the series are viewed with a satirical undertone. I'm having a great time so far. For me personally, a rating only becomes more meaningful about halfway through a series. After 3 episodes it's more of a tendency for me as to how the series is and I don't begrudge the series the current rating.

I watch the Imdb ranking very closely. I can tell you that to get it back to 9.0 it needs at least 200-300 10.0 votes. The ranking is totally non-transparent and imdb seems to "downgrade" it if it's too successful...This happened last time when it slipped from 9.1 to 8.6 with 99% 9-10 ratings

Yes, I think so too 🤞 I also saw something from The On1y One with a 2 at Gagaoolala. But I don't speak Mandarin, so I can't translate the text. But MiHile seems to be able to translate it....
I think supporting it in this way ( positive comments, promoting the use of the legal platforms, ... ) is the best thing we can do.

I completely agree with you. It makes me happy too. He deserves it so much. He had to endure so much at the beginning. I even had tears in my eyes when I saw how overwhelmed he was.

You're certainly right about the levels of comments in the MDL comment sections. However, I don't think a return to good communication is utopian ;) Criticism of a series and decent communication are not mutually exclusive. Sometimes you just have to remind yourself of that. I've also clashed with some people in other comment sections and still have interesting discussions here without personal insults. And: just because something always happens this way doesn't mean that it can't be done differently...

So, now I'm finally getting around to answering....

In my opinion, the teacher scene was expanded to a) have a second BL couple, as is very common in the genre, and b) perhaps to satisfy those who find the pace of the actual story too slow. As I said, I don't think they're bad per se, but their story is definitely incoherent and confusing, I have to agree. I liked the subtle undertone they both gave off in the beginning and the last two episodes have somewhat ruined that for me. Sometimes I generally feel like there are BL formulas to play it “safe” in order to be relatively successful. This includes certain themes, certain looks of the actors and also a 2nd couple. I think the director should have been braver here and at least left out this love triangle. It would have been nice if the English teacher had been portrayed as a supportive figure for students and teachers.

I also have to honestly admit that I am totally confused by the issue of douban rankings and the ban on gay content. Having a target audience that can't actually consume the content legally sounds like a curious decision to me... I don't think it's a censored bromance. But I could imagine that this season they are just cautiously testing how far they can go. Since the investor is supposed to be Dong Qin's agency and I could imagine that they will show less because of him in order to be able to guarantee a second season and not cause a career setback...! To be honest, I find it very exciting that he decided to do the show. I'm not on a lot of SN, but I'm glad to see that both Dong Qin and Benjamin are getting international recognition. Especially for Benjamin, I'm glad that his talent is becoming visible.

For me, the freedom of adaptation is also important and I don't find adaptations tragic or they can even enhance a film adaptation. I also think that some people are very picky when it comes to the adaptation of the source material, but the adaptation of a novel/manga/etc. needs different things to satisfy the consumer than a film adaptation. As I said, I think that certain decisions here are a compromise between director and investors in order to reach the target audience in the best possible way and test the market... Funnily enough but it's the international audience that doesn't know the novel that is helping the series to gain attention and recognition. Perhaps the director will be more courageous and consistent in his decisions if there is an S2.

SW: Basically, you put it well, it's probably fear and he just doesn't want to admit it. That's better than the way I put it. Thank you. He definitely notices it and verbalizes it “We are more than friends....” And negates it/suppresses it “We are family”. Could it be that he doesn't allow it because he was always alone and actually wanted a sibling and doesn't want to destroy his father's happiness? Or that he perhaps also sees being gay as “not an option” for him? With JT I sometimes get the feeling that he's about to “burst” with emotion, in my eyes he wants to admit his feelings too... He never talks about friendship or being brothers and in my opinion you can see the pain in his face when SW pulls out the family card again.
I have to say that I like the portrayal of JT right from the start. Because it's not the typical cliché of “he's cold as ice”, but so many facets and feelings shine through in his detachment. I find that very refreshing in the cliché-ridden BL landscape 😉 (Incidentally, Benjamin was criticized for not being as cold as he is in the novel)...

Did you see the clip of Benjamin crying with emotion yesterday? I was so happy that he got a whole shower of love and could see how much the (international) fans appreciate him😊

I could imagine that with Gagaoolala and Viki we have a good chance of a S2.🤞
Does anyone know how the series is doing on Netflix? As far as I know, it only airs on Netflix Asia, right?
