Honestly the viki ones are more accurate in meaning. Their subbers probably went back and redid those names.I…
immortals did not faze me as much as "diviners", sometimes spelt "deviners" in comments. I too, autocorrected in my mind to more familiar Demon Realm and Heaven Realm. With some debating with myself about the "Extranatural heaven" looking up to "Natural Law" higher ethereal and hidden "place". But for once, these Demons except Liu Ming, and his creations (the Chimei, Fenglai, maybe also the wizard?) looked more like another type of immortals, who could supposedly shape-shift to the initial beast form they were originally from, although we did not see many do so. Still, since original platform took the option to translate as they did, and we had the puppet show in the beginning (where Xing Yun sat with CluckCluck to be told together with the people of Qingsheng market, about the three world's creation story), I just went along with that "canon" (if not perfectly satisfactory) translation choice. Viki does really great, but over translating can also lead to other confusion. As for seeing such "new takes on names", there are other xianxia that do not use the hitherto widely accepted Demon/Immortal or Heaven/Mortal division same way : it is up to authors who are sometimes quite creative in their visions (example: Cangyan Sea etc). That's why I wrote this essay, during airing : https://kisskh.at/discussions/yu-feng-xing/124265-notes-about-the-legend-of-shen-li-xianxia-drama?pid=3003893&page=1#p3003893

they are both popular actresses, that's all. Yang Zi was famously FL in a past xianxia called Ashes of Love, and another called Immortal Samsara, so they are (as all who do that sort of dramas), competitors. Also for fame and screen time. But I don't think there's any bad blood between them. Yang Zi is younger although she has been on screen longer since she was a child actress. But she has less fans (60 millions) than Zhào Lìyǐng who has 90.9million fans, second only to Yang Mi. Some rumors about snarky fan exchanges from the fireflies (ZLY fans) and purple rice (YZ fans) groups spread about the time of CNY when the Zhang Yimou movie "Article 20" (a story about self defense and beating), in which ZLY plays, was airing to large success. Anti-fans, of which celebs have plenty, may have had a black hand in this. As An chuxia, keen observer of c-dramaland's dangerous jungle, stated just before: "aoao" (one nickname for YZ, whose Ig handle is yangzi_aoao), and "zhaozhao" (one nickname for ZLY) are not enemies at all, and I don't think fireflies and purple rice are that keen on being discourteous to each other in "defending" their idols. Let's support them both, and welcome Best Choice Ever, the new family drama with YZ that will premiere tomorrow on WeTV at 19:30 as per this announce : https://twitter.com/Yz1106Aoao -- for those who can manage to wrench themselves away from n-th rewatch of Shen Li, of course 😅
Shen Li's parents had the most beautiful yet tragic love story. Her parents are such pure souls❤️And am I…
But no, they are only good friends according to what I read: ZLY tried marriage, for a short stint, has a young child whom she co-parents with her ex (no hard feelings between them apparently), and LGX is rumored to have a gf but is among the discreet people, so we get to know more about his Corgi dog(s) than about his private life, same as for ZLY who shows more of her wardrobe (beautiful "phoenix design" special for the live stream, and her own poodle, Furball) than anything more intimate, which is of course none of our business. So that's all we know, thanks to the buzzfly paparazzi who stalk all those celebrities, spreading rumors about this and that, lately that Yang Zi is "worried" by Shen Li's success presumably because she often followed the social media posts on Weibo (why couldn't she simply be among the 108 million who were glued to screen watching it, last week? I like Yang Zi too, so will surely watch one or more of her very soon 3-4 upcoming dramas). Let's just admire them all, together or separately in the dramas they delight us with, as the skilled actors they are, and make a clear distinction between fiction and real life.

wow! worth watching ? I clicked on it randomly ... Perhaps I'll give it a try too, then. It's only reached 16/28 episodes on WeTV for me. Just saw it got #4/10 on the popularity ranking of online dramas for the past week, according to Marcus Sim's reporting.
I think he broke the cycle. He walks away alone this time.
He'll find another and better love, now that he is free from obsession :) Heavens (Natural Law) are rebuked, the time of the gods is over, now is time to build a new world free from fate.
Later episodes show there is a club in the heaven realm that admires the last ancient god
That was a fun part ! https://kisskh.at/discussions/yu-feng-xing/124265-notes-about-the-legend-of-shen-li-xianxia-drama?pid=3016147&page=2#p3016147 No : those who think the role of You Lan the Luotian goddess is to make FL jealous are completely skewed by their dark and biased glasses and must be guilty of watching in bits and pieces with a finger on the ff button, missing what's essential. Shen Li was not jealous, she could not care less about the beautiful fairies who vie for the god's attention, knowing that he is as cold as an iceberg, despite he has shown from the start some partiality to her as an exception. Even the really alluring Golden Lady Snake does not move Xing Zhi from his final choice. She felt awkward about the star gazing following drunk episode with Mo Fang, but never considered Mo Fang as more than a military brother-in-arms, or subordinate. She did taunt the god rather mischievously, but he was her first and last choice despite she believed she was over reaching and should accept the marriage deal prepared, instead. Shen Li also had a fun moment cross dressing and interacting with the Lady in front of XZ (cross dressed as SL) to make fun of males' jealousy. Lin Gengxin was perfect in his role, throughout. A real full and layered presence (not like the too thin youngster the god had, at first, randomly assigned as husband for the immortal he did not know yet). Shen Li could not have chosen better: love, reliability, manly handsomeness, unpredictable moments of fun and decisiveness, and power! Li Jiaqi acted beyond her usual comic relief role, when You Lan showed her real non romantic deep care for the god and for her wayward brother, even offering herself as a shield in battle.
This is a chaotic story, less comedy than caricature of the survival into modern days of outdated customs and the clash of greed and family.
An awful looking fortune teller, who of course had a hidden backer, instructed a gullible middle aged woman (Chen Guihua) to get her son (Gu Jiahui) and daughter in law (Yu Jing) to "make a descendant", less for her own desire than for getting back a dowry she was cheated out of when she agreed to divorce her son's dad (Gu Dequan). She suddenly arrived at her son's apartment, in company of her "step daughter" (Yu Chun).
The daughter in law was busy setting up a company with a best friend (Xiao Shan), so making babies was not her primary goal ; Xiao Shan, feeling the threat if Yu Jing changed her mind, with all the baby care products she sells online, took a drastic step to force a divorce between her friend and her wimpy husband.
The old man was quite the fiend, aided and abetted by his second wife cum free caretaker (Li Xiao), who was not even pitiable. The couple found out about the conspiracies and tried to confront the ones who were behind them. Even those who seemed close to Chen Guihua and Yu Jing were double faced.
Fights, abduction, slanders, embezzlement, wife beating, mistreatment.... That family is the couple is saddled with, is as dysfunctional as can be. Will the old fiend, at the brink of death, get a redemption and escape punishment for his decades of wrongdoings ? He does get a slap in the face when he is confronted with the truth about his younger son. If tradition requires descendants, he has in fact no choice. He is afraid to die alone and get to afterlife with no proper mourning in his luxurious mansion in cherry growing countryside, despite his ill gotten wealth.
The drama is fast paced, sometimes jumpily so, and there is a happy end of sorts. Can be watched on a rainy day, amused by the wives epic hair pulling, like hens flying into each other's feathers ; a fat rabbit once steals the show.
The full cast was not disclosed on Baidu, despite there are only 7 who drive that mini drama. Here they are, from end credits : Chen Guihua 陈桂花, is played by Shen Chang 沈畅 Yu Jing 于静 is played by Li Yizhen 李奕臻 Gu Jiahui 顾家辉 is played by Danson Tang /Tang Yuzhe 唐禹哲 Xiao Shan 肖珊, played by Pang Yixin "Scarlett" 庞奕欣 Yu Chun 俞春 is played by Chen Zhiqiao 陈芷翘 Gu Dequan 顾徳全 is played by Li Ou 李欧 Li Xiao 李晓 is played by Suxiu 苏绣
want to watch this but they dubbed danson's voice😭😭😭😭
I don't see any mention for voice actors on the Baidu page ? It is airing now, and I'm doing a speed watch, for an aside from other dramas that were "heavier" (Angels Fall Sometime , War of Faith and The Legend of Shen Li, the latter being a deceptively "simple" xianxia that has actually deeper roots than they first appear). Just started, so will include it in my list later (or not if I end up finding it as unsatisfactory as those 33 users who rate it to a median 6.8).
when I click the link, it's translated automatically to English
Kar, your long essay/comment is really important to understand this drama and its message. I will link it to my own introduction to xianxia realms and the abyss , that I wrote in my Notes (in Discussions), if you don't mind it ? You are explaining very well what I also felt in my last comment about the drama which I will copy too into my Notes :)
also what's that about the tattoo on shiluo's wrist did i miss anything significant about that
it's a lotus, reminding of the connection to Xiao He who was reincarnated as Jing Xi (both were demons, contrary to Ye Shi reincarnated as Shi Luo). Qing Ye, the fallen god who had been condemned by the Natural Law (higher power with no face which decided on creation, gods included) to forever miss his love in the lives in mortal realm where he roamed as Gu Chengjin and later as Jing Yan, had conflicting feelings of guilt for the demon he had used to try revive Ye Shi.
The fate thing is a form of "karma" : what people, gods and immortals or demons included, do, will reap rewards or retribution. Those who strayed from the "path" (dao) they should have followed, shirking responsibility or selfishly using powers for themselves, would be punished: the gods who "fell in love", singling out one person among the all they should care for, were stripped of their godly powers, ejected from the Extranatural heaven, and condemned to roam as humans, going through rebirth as reincarnations like ordinary human, although very few could transiently keep some memories (Qing Ye needed to be "awakened" by Xing Zhi).
So, would this forever spinning wheel stop ? Watch till last episode, and see what became of Qing Ye and the new incarnations of his love and guilt, once they let go of their obsessions...

Sometimes, the story is complicated, but everything gets an explanation, and you can also look in Discussions my Notes on xianxia realms, and the characters illustrated gallery, that comes with some explanations, arranged by order of appearance, with an alphabetical key to look up one particular character in the gallery.
