It varies. Jinmi of AoL was not born from an egg but from her goddess of flowers mother in a deadly childbirth. But Runyu was a mix of fish and dragon, while Xufeng was presumably hatched from an egg since he was a phoenix himself + his Heaven Empress mom was from Bird Realm and Heaven Emperor dad was a dragon. In The Last Immortal, Yuan Qi's origins remained mysterious so his birth form was not revealed, but it did not look like he was hatched from an egg, whereas Feng Yin was, and very publicly so, since she was a phoenix (how she also was a Water Beast and had a sister with no connection to feathers but a nice big egg remained puzzling to me and grating as a plot hole), so I assume Shen Li was hatched too, although the pearl addition is puzzling. In the Starry Love there did not seem to be much shape shifting, "original form", and no mention of Divine eggs.

His reputation is high but his appearance is not famous and he likes to go about unnoticed, except when he's got a reason to make it clear that his wishes are in fact commands. So most don't know who exactly he is, even young rebellious teenager like Furong Jun.

Yes, even not having read the books, that was my feelings when I saw the first episodes and up till episode 12 today... Well played actually !

Chicky is totally out of character both for her and from him!
Cluck Cluck was a good translation of ke ke da / ke da onomatopoeia.
Cute, funny, engaging, jocular but not too haughty, whereas Chicky sounds wrong, as if emphasizing gender discrimination and harassment when he had no sentimental interest in the fowl or fairy.

Thanks for having found it 👍😘❤ There was an orchestral recording played by Budapest Film Symphony Orchestra. for Chinese TV before, with a slightly different name "碧苍之名" but without choirs. I also thought it was a version of the battle song that was on the OST listing but still unreleased , it's the same melody yes , but this version is the one we were waiting for : short but nice !

About the composer : Yang Bingyin, graduated from Communication University of China, is a Chinese male composer and music producer. He has composed more than 100 independent lyrics and music, and his works have been included and published in recordings by well-known artists in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

In 2010, he served as the music director of the drama "Naked Wedding"; in the same year, the original song 《不结婚就是耍流氓》 (If You Are Not Married, You Are a Hooligan) composed by him was widely sung on the Internet. In 2013, he turned to the field of musicals and served as the music producer for China's first fantasy musical 《魔幻阿凡提》. He became especially famous for his composing for animated or live action dramas and hit movies.
Among those, he also composed 不知返 (Bu Zhi Fan, No Turning Back) sung by Wang Heye 王赫野 ❤for the Legend of Shen Li, which you already included in your translated videos.

Chimei 魑魅 is a man-eating mountain spirit
The phrase 魑魅魍魉 Chīmèi wǎngliǎng refers to "evil spirits, demons and monsters - all sorts of evil persons", and in fact specifically three sorts : .魑 Chi is a sort of yellowish dragon, 魅 Mei is a seductive forest spirit, (魍魉 Wangliang is a water demon.) So 魑魅 is an evil spirit here, or in the modern-day common usage "all kinds of evil people".
It first appeared as a shape shifting poisonous fiend with a snake like tail that could sting that swallowed SL who dived between its fangs before hacking her way out from its belly with her lance ; despite that it was not even killed and just returned to the Xutian Abyss.

BTW I nevertheless gave it a try and submitted that new synopsis, duly editing out controversial ideas. So... in wait for what will happen.

Last time I tried to submit a small edit about adding characters and cast, I found it got so complicated that I just gave up.
If someone here is more experienced, they can do it directly, I don't mind their copying my stuff.
What I do is just a gift anyway. I don't intend to accrue revenue from my hobby.


That's also why I do the things in Discussions : I am more free there than going through lengthy complications to do Articles that can't be modified or added to if necessary but have to stay in fixed form.
When I decide to stop, I just put an indication of "final edit" with date. Even then "final" is relative if there is something I think warrants my checking back for adding stuff.

As I wrote it was puzzling so if this conforms to book, and there is such a thing, it might be there's a continuation and rescuing or a twist like in the end of Ashes of Love where Xufeng finds Jinmi reincarnated with all her memory intact, and they go off marrying and have a kid who goes cutely "fishing for a wife".
We can delete the possibly puzzling part. I deleted the first copy and the comment about my puzzlement.

it is also due to noise on set, especially when there are action scenes. Having to dub themselves for such reasons may be boring, and professional dubbers are more expert at following lip movements, even if it will never be perfect be it their own dubbing or a pro. Probably better with a trusted pro.
Perhaps also less expensive for production since dubbers time is not paid at the same rate as star actors.

"The play is adapted from the novel 《本王在此》(The King Is Here) written by Jiu Lu Feixiang (九鹭非香). It tells the story of Shen Li, the Bi Cang King of the spirit world, who fell to Earth while on the run from marriage. By chance, she met the last ancient god, Xing Zhi, who had come down to earth to experience life. This launched a new mythical love story of the "three realms", full of pyrotechnics and majestic power.

Shen Li ( played by Zhao Liying ) had been severely wounded in her flight as a phoenix. She was plucked, and caged to be sold on the marketplace. Xing Zhi ( played by Lin Gengxin) bought and rescued the spunky fowl, albeit staying aloof or playing pranks on her to relieve his boredom. Shen Li was grateful for his care and protection, torn between the temptation to escape again or to stay until the spirit world would force her back to resume her duties.

By the way, I am curious about that Pearl that was introduced in Episode 11: what is it about ? I don't mind some spoiler from the novel readers ! ;) Her Holiness making it merge into Shen Li's body had me reminded of the "love suppressing" pill that Jinmi's divine mother, the Flower Goddess, had imposed on her daughter to "protect her from the ravages of infatuation" in Ashes of Love !

it is the same as the Youtube Opening theme of the drama, played by Budapest Film Symphony Orchestra, titled also 碧苍之名 which got translated to Name of the Beauty (but then we know 碧苍 Bicang is the name of Shen Li) So the opening theme apparently had its name changed from 《碧苍战歌》Bi Cang Battle song that was on the Baidu OST listing.

btw I thought the title should be 《碧苍战歌》 Bi Cang battle theme, which was on the OST list but hitherto seemed "unreleased", as per my conversation with Peachey Blossom who translates many OST songs.
Peachey chose to translate Shen Li's martial name of Lord Bicang as "Hazy Sky" in the title for another song by same composer, but as another translator of OST remarked: it might be better to leave the name as is (Bi Cang) or, if necessary translate to "azure sky" to convey the image in the name of deep blue and green colors. Anyway, it is never easy to translate from Chinese, especially with names, that can lead to over translation.

Here, the drama subtitle translations are more or less ok, we don't get too much over-translation, just some minor mistakes,
In MDL synopsis, I wonder where the "Bai Cai" name emerged from. Can't remember if that was a nickname of Shen Li, on whom Xing Zhi "generously" bestowed the nickname "Ke Da" (Cluck Cluck) that can also be heard as "ke ke da" (an onomatopoeia funnily close to French "cotcotcodett"!)
