I have posted the Douban rating 7.3, and the special poster visuals announcing it, together with the Profile of Wu Xuanyi in Discussions section above :)
Many cast Asia as a similar death trap: when it's not malaria and plague, it's terror and women rapes and burning…
I certainly am not forcing you to watch or appreciate c-dramas, Asian dramas or anything that raises your hackles.
I could write more, replying to your late answer after my post of 3 months ago. But I am not paid to gun down or defend any drama, or even to answer you.. Puzzled that it took you over four months to complete that small 22 episode drama, when you logged in over 3000 episodes watches since... June this year? π
But Sweet Teeth is not even a drama about or set in Africa! So your judgmental reaction about it and myself/my opinion is in my view exaggerated.
While re-watching, I came across a snippet of a TV drama that the mom of Su Wei'an is watching, in episode 21, about 13:06 timestamp on Viki : has someone recognized from which show that was ? I am curious.
i have added some more :) Had forgotten the LYX meme! and some notes about cast. I like the final bts that you found - will try to put it in too, maybe tomorrow evening, so it get pinned there too, without having to look elsewhere. (perhaps cutting it so it fits the 1 min max format; maybe just keeping the wedding) but can't do it just now, have to shut down the computer for some hours :(
The DVD version is longer, there are a number of scenes that have been cut out of the TV version. In total it…
hmmm. snake bites and condoms: are females somehow linked subliminally here to snake stories.... thinking also about the venomous Wen Ran (noting that the actress was playing an almost as toxic role in Lighter and Princess: perhaps she has fun with such villainous roles, lol!)
Love the leads, but the drama doesn't make sense. It takes 10-15 years or maybe more to develop a drug and release…
The leads took over from Wen Ran's dad, so they do have some history, but it looks like they wanted to try new angles. Not sure where the brief glimpse of the zebra fish experimenter fit into all that. As for grandma's cookie recipe, I have no firm opinion: first time I experimented a copy, it worked fine, second time in a different kitchen/country, it failed.
I was also wondering what country was used as model for fictional "Lacaya" and who lent his name to General Kouyate. Digging some, I came across some amusing results: possibly Gabon (not the most unruly African country but since the Bongo dynasty was ousted by a new coup in September for gross corruption, and medical and other cooperation has a 46 year old history between China and Gabon, including sending medical specialists on rotation, that does fit the picture), and possibly a Senegalese footballer! But the Baidu biography of the novel's author had the biggest fun info : she is a .... 94 (!!!!) year old medical student, author of romances and youth novels, several of which won awards. lol
So their age gap was 6 yrs lol, I thought it was less
Yes me too. She did spend (was it 3years ?) In Lacaya after the time when she was cheated from her paper and got the blow about her condition. But did we hear them state ages, despite the birthday cake of Dr Gu ?
I admit it is not easy to follow Bai Lu's post about this one among the 2 dramas aired almost simultaneously :…
Love is sweet was a very nice light romance, yes, and I loved how Bai Lu and LYX (who was at the time my favorite Cdrama actor since Ashes of Love) bantered off set and almost promised to play together again, in the final interview. So I was looking forward to TTEOTM which was phenomenal, but much more complex and if you don't have time or like xianxia, maybe not up the alley for everybody. It also elicited a lot of comments since fans were divided about how it ought to have ended. Much more than they were about the end of Love between Faiey and Devil which was a "light" and relatively simple xianxia, similar in tone to The Starry Love this year (to me at least).
Time for watching is not a big pb for me so I do watch a lot of dramas, although not professionally. I do tinker with the idea to write a book about them from a chinese culture point of view, someday, so I already posted some "essays" on those that recently caught my attzntion more than others.
If you like light hearted and enjoyable love stories, I suggest you also give a try to Hidden Love, where Zhao Lusi (an old friend of Bai Lu) and Chen Zheyuan achieved also so much chemistry that a lot still think they really fell in love on set and may continue to message each other through coded posts on their social media... Chen Zheyuan is a heartthrob, so I wrote an illustrated Profile about him on MDL as contribution to his rising fame. He is much younger than LYX but also dedicated to what he does. I could have written a corresponding Profile about ZLS (or Bai Lu here) but chose not to since other fans of Rosy already have posted a good introduction in Article (it needs to be completed and updated but for newbies who don't know about ZLS, it is a good place to start).
Instead, I did another Profile about Wu Xuanyi who is not a big star in dramas and has also suffered from backlash due to her pop idol status. I had started that profile in the wake of a to me, main companion piece long essay about The Princess and the Werewolf, a light hearted fantasy drama that Chen Zheyuan had filmed two years before HL but which aired after HL. Wu Xuanyi does well at the moment in Rising with the Wind, which is a business drama where she is 2FL.
I was not an old time fan of Wu Xuanyi, although I had coincidentally watched all her drama appearances and love mandopop and c-pop... But I was not into KPop girl groups where she started her first idol career. Some fans of her liked my essay and starting Profile enough to encourage me and enlighten me about some of her fandom, pleased that I had unearthed some details that they, as yuanyi fans, were not aware of! When I start researching, I do dig as deep as I can... ;-) if you are into business romance, Rising with the wind might appeal to you, btw.
I think of myself less a fan of so and so, more like an explorer into various c-ent fandoms, so what I write about actors, actresses, singers, comes mostly from that light of discovery. And I aim at objectivity while also describing how these are idols and liuliang.
Finally, I just saw Marcus Here!'s latest C-drama news update that landed on YT less than an hour ago. He reported the Opening Douban rating of Only For Love to be 4.8 from "just under 25,000 ratings". First commenters are divided between fans who think it should be 5.5 or 6 at least, and those who hate the slowness and immaturity in the story line, rating it down to 4. MDL raters will probably rate it differently, so for Douban I'd probably side with 5.8 and for MDL at the moment, a low 7.5 or 8 (I am usually lenient in my rating and not avaricious with 10s when I love a show). Not saying Only for Love is utter trash, only that it will probably be forgettable. Looking at it as popcorn snack: enjoyable despite its lack of nutritiousness, but knowing this will probably end up frustrating till the end..
And to boot, I had a flood today that probably killed my computer! So I will not react much more on MDL pages until that tech hurdle is .solved. I can still watch dramas on a tablet, but will be moving about too in the coming days.
Oh and if you found many typos in the above, blame it on the lilliputian keyboard on my smartphone (not an iPhone 14 like in the drama hahaha!)
Wishing you continued enjoyment in your c drama watching!

Yes, it is not totally horrible but not the level we expected. Just another generic CEO Cinderella thing. It will be taking a backseat far behind Arsenal Military Academy, Love is Sweet, One and Only+ Forever and Ever. Contrary to some here who did not get its charm, bc they skioped the dark tragedy before, I really loved F&E also because I know the places that were beautifully showcased (Zhenjiang, Wuzhen, Shanghai, Xi'an) and liked the clan feud depicted with the cultural moments, the poems. (I rewatched it 5 times.) And then the phenomenal TTEOTM... Since there is this too long wait to finish this drama, I will scoot over to SoKP.
