Well blame Mango subtitles for that😉. I am currently watching this drama on official youtube channel of MGTV.…
You are welcome. I like your detailed synopsis.
About the song, that I think could be the inspiration for the pipa zui insect : I also like this version of Pipa Xing, by Ren Jialun : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTjkZPEPZ5Q ...
As for the Inextricable Destiny drama OST, the main tune reminds me of another drama one (but I am too lazy to hunt for it, someone else into OSTs might pinpoint it?). Many OST songs borrow more or less from other ones, nothing to raise eyebrows. So this OST is nice, but almost generic to me. Not like some other drama OSTs which are more memorable, for me anyway. That will cause me to deduct a point from my personal rating and join you for average 8.5.
I generally liked the story of the transformation of the wildcat Jiuling, and was amused by the "childish" antics of memory-wiped Rong Yu (who did not turn out as dangerously possessive as my favorite Luo Yunxi character in AoL, despite the similarity in names : Runyu in AoL. Although they were both dressed same and dabbling with stars and destinies; well, Runyu was an immortal god of night then, and Rong Yu is only a star chart reader, not even a wuxia warrior flying over rooftops and battles like Jiuling.). Some plot twists, dropped characters, less interesting filler characters, incongruities (why did she need ladders to climb over walls when she could easily jump/fly over them with her cultivation training?),.. make the story not top notch, but still enjoyable.
That's a fairly complete detailed synopsis ! Perfect to jog one's memory in the future!
Just a minor correction : "hou" means "marquis" and Zhongyong is the name (hao) attached to the title, like Chengyuan is the reign name of the (fictional) Xuanyuan dynastic name of the young emperor whose childhood name was Cheng'an. [I've added and corrected some details in the now near complete Tidbits companion piece, posted in Discussion; we only got precision about status and real name of Zhongyong hou in episode 23, so yes, I was also thinking initially that he was a duke, and his son a marquis, but no: he was the elder marquis, while the younger, Jiang Songmin, did not even get mentioned by title in the drama, only mentioned as marquis in the Baidu character short presentation.]
I think the "pipa zui" insect is a fictional one, but perhaps the naming of it came from the melancholy poem "pipa xing" by Bai Juyi (a Tang period poet). This poem, also translated as "Ballad of the Lute", has been put to music and gracefully performed by Luo Yunxi and Chinese opera singer Tian Miaomiao : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVv4J5RrNew ; Ren Jialun has sung it too in a different version, mixing pipa lute, recitation, and Ren Jialun's hiphop/rap personal style : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HJYUrL6wU4
I have posted a link to the Profile about Wu Xuanyi's acting and singing career in discussion above, together with the snippet from it describing the drama, including now the character poster from the tweet mentioned by MsDarkqueen :-)
Wu Xuanyi/ Betty Wu 's new drama 'Rising with the wind' will be broadcasted on iqiyi and Dragon TV on 30th October…
Just saw the confirmation of airing date on Marcus's Sunday news. 😊 Shall we watch it together? I had put a direct link to iQiyi page for that drama in the Profile, back when! just changed the date there, and will put a link to the WXY Profile in comments on the drama page .
@frost_edelweiss you must have missed it. The drama is in his list!!!!
In fact, I had just been confused by the first "English title": "Loving You", here in MDL. So what you reacted to was an old comment from the moment when I was looking for My Precious after Tao announced it in his short Weibo vid :-)
No, I did not miss the drama, I even commented, and added two pieces in Discussion items, and debated whether or not to do a Profile for him too. But Tao is a complex personality, and there still is data I miss or need to confirm about him if I venture a full portrait. Next time perhaps.
In Discussion page of the drama, I put up, as companion pieces, a short playlist for those who might be curious about his music or as a friendly wink to the hailang (if you are not familiar with Tao's C-pop music you could start there) + I hope a fun illustrated list of pets.
We get 2 episodes today and 1 or 2 every day until November 5 finale. I am looking forward to the next twists and turns in this thrilling story, where everything is well designed to keep up the interest. (Some here are writing detailed episode summaries, but only relying on these to "watch" the drama would be like eating a dry apple devoid of juice and color, so myself, I prefer to read those summaries as good reminders after having enjoyed the episodes).
For the possibly new audience still joining, you can check the directory of characters in the Tidbits posted in Discussion above this section: it is more precise than the incomplete MDL cast list, and it is illustrated, with a short description/introduction of the character which should not be too spoilerish. It is up to date till ep16. That should help understand the relationship between some characters, for the He and Rong family, and the others in the power play within and between Jialin empire and neighboring Xili kingdom. (only doubt is about the Chen Bi new maid in ep16, which may be an alias for the Li Yuhan character, or an uncredited one -Baidu does not have a Chen Bi.) Some characters have not yet appeared.
This is a good original scenario, developed for TV, so there is no novel or story to look for to read. The cast is engaging, they use original voice (no dubbing by others). For those who can't live without counting kisses, there is one already in first 1/3 in and this should not be the last in the sweet romance that also has mystery and battles.
I skipped almost everything in the last 3 episodes. And scenes with my favorite character — the DOG are less…
Then you did not read comments before ; I made a note about Z Tao in answer to a comment, when the drama started airing. But I think you don't really like what he does, although you liked enough Legally Romance?
We probably are all watching from different points of view. Like in that great song : 我们不一样 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WukYo7Em8SQ (not a Tao song. I listen and watch a lot too, although not as much as you logged in: I'm in awe of your stamina).
Happy continued drama watching here and on the farm (I started on that one too, and a couple other ones, but was busy with a trip to Chengdu last week : still feeling somewhat groggy from jetlag although I mostly teleport from "deep space". 😄
Bizarrely, the Discussions section is hidden again here. Boldly go click on "New Topic" or "create a discussion" to discover what is already there 😂 You can add to it, if you know more ! There's a playlist of songs, and the start of a directory of pets, and more, which will be illustrated!
I skipped almost everything in the last 3 episodes. And scenes with my favorite character — the DOG are less…
Sorry you are in a bad mood. Listen to some songs? Me, I'm okay but lagged behind because of other projects that held me up. Happy this drama is still in the top ten of the week. I will be more lenient with it, probably.
Kisses. Uhmm. I am also an Allen Ren Jialun devotee..... (One and Only & Forever and Ever) ; while also loving Chen Zheyuan and Zhao Lusi in their last romance, and Jerry Yan and Xu Ruohan in the Forbidden Flower, or Yang Yang inThe King's Avatar, for the whole spectrum. Lack of kisses don't faze me, even if I admit I am tickled by the too-hot scenes that get cut and hunted by drama fans. Perhaps Z.Tao was refraining because his relationship with Xu Yiyang was already on the home run to real life wedding? He blatantly exposed it on October 10... (see Discussion)
I also liked the animals displayed in this drama, which had me looking up the breeds: my favorite, unlike Z.Tao's own real life "Ace" border collie is perhaps the Shiba Inu. Perhaps because its color reminds me of my favorite ginger cat! The gist of the story was raising awareness to the responsibility pet owners take on. Very few Chinese people like their dogs cooked despite the bias that goes around ; dogs and cats and other pets are life and friends for their sadly shorter life and teach their owners many emotions, including how to deal with losses...
Thanks for the details, 😀I'll take a closer look at the scenes 😅 fake kisses are a huge turn off me and…
Xu Yiyang. They have been rumored together for a long time. She was a hardcore fan of his from when she trained in South Korea, and first chance she got, she signed with L Tao entertainment. She was already employed by Z.Tao when she joined Chuang 2020.
He tried not to show too much his liking of her then, but he did end up praising her openly at the end and went to comfort her and her team when they lost to the other team that went on as BonBonGirls (Curly Gao, Nene,.... + Liu Xiening who was chosen as main dancer from Xu Yiyang's group and remained friends with her). Here is the footage : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaeRrFBKt80 (praise from Z.Tao at 12:50)
I thought if he (and she) preferred not to display too much their relationship which seemed more than probable, it could be for several reasons: they felt too young then, he had too much on his mind, with the passing of his dad, his having to take care of companies, properties, fortune, while not giving up his careers as entertainer, actor, and Cpop musician with big stages, his former friend and colleague Wu Yifan getting convicted and jailed, the pandemic, etc. and he perhaps wanted to prevent nepotism accusations if and when he promoted his employee's musical career.
The announcement that came a few days ago did not look like a hoax --Well now if the cat is out of the bag, perhaps they will formally announce it, maybe give a date to the marriage that Z.Tao had promised he'd invite his hailang to (I hope virtually, to avoid chaos!) Perhaps they have decided that she has waited long enough, at 26 to his 30 years old. So, I did not see confirmation (yet) on their Weibo, but they could announce it, I suppose, at the concerts that they were preparing the tour of in South Korea, where he declared with this banner that read "i love u Yi Yang" in the nightclub where they were spotted : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NL2E9ejTAZk .
-- saluting the hailang :this is one of my favorite c-ent fandom jungles with colorful beasts lol but I am friendly to a large collection of them, testing these days the xiao youzi /little grapefruit one. These fandoms have such funny names at times! I like the one that munches on canelés too, and if I add the baizhou/white porridge rocking one, I have enough breakfast for the day or more, looking at the oceans waves while counting my collection of ingots 哈哈哈哈哈
From the short preview of episode 16 we could see that Rong Yu has recovered his faculties but is still faking…
btw Do you know the novel ? I could not find any reference to it (if there is one) on Baidu, MDL or dramawiki... So far, we only know the name of the screenwriter? If someone has more precise info, it would be nice to log them in.
From the short preview of episode 16 we could see that Rong Yu has recovered his faculties but is still faking…
Uhm. Lord Rong has no army or otherwise muscle position except as astrologer, so he could not very well oppose the Regent's soldiers and had anyways severed ties with the He family once he was clear that JL did not accept the marriage contract and that she probably had a hand in what happened to RY.
I made clear that my examples of CiXi and Lin Biao referred to real historical examples that can shed light on how cruel the power struggles can be. Btw all novels are based on imagination informed by knowledge of History or other real life stuff. As for "historical" stories like this one, of course they draw on models from History too (not copying but inspiring). My thinking is that the new princess might behave like that empress Cixi to do away with all threats to her position : Jiang Songling already has an axe to grind with Jiuling, so I would not be surprised if she tries to drown, poison, stab, or otherwise kill her off. And that could be JL's "inextricable destiny" within the 4 years (of marriage? was that what Rong Yu had foreseen?)
But there are still 12 episodes for more twists in the story and hopefully not too many fillers.
Shouldn't we put this conversation in spoilers ? New watchers may not be too happy about knowing too much beforehand, even if we only indulge in guesswork at this point.
I think the change from red colours to white colours shows she is in mourning.
Could be the mourning had reached or was reaching end of appropriate period, but also, since her He family had been convicted, she probably could not show off as mourner anyway, except more privately. So the red festive details were appropriate for formal invitation and she could not shirk duty since she now "belonged" to Rong family, all ties to previous one officially severed. It was not her call to decide to stay at home or not ; she had to do as she was told to by the master of the house, who was Lord Rong.
I think the change from red colours to white colours shows she is in mourning.
There is no obligation to wear muted colors for a young married woman, except for mourning, in ancient or modern times. But red is usually more for festive occasions such as weddings, although depending on era and dynasty, green, gold, even black, were frequent wedding colors. Warriors were more often wearing black or closer to camo colors than conspicuous red that would stand out on a battlefield.
Now, at home, with that rigid Lord Rong who stole her jade imperial token, and relishes beating her to a pulp for perverted thrills in lieu of "punishment for her crime", I suppose rough sackcloth is what he'd want her to wear, sleeping on bare slabs in a prison too -- but he can't go too far since he seems to want to keep RY alive.
He also needs RY to appear at court, and since it is etiquette, he has to let JL accompany RY. Delighted that she was led to turn back for a clothes change, after the tea spill. But since Shao Di was not waiting for the courtiers, Rong Jiang may have been puzzled despite he is not a clairvoyant himself.
Up till now, few people outside random ones who do not know his identity, are aware that RY is not only a "former seer". I am not spoiling myself with previews, even if I now know some from the conversation here ;-) We shall see how all that turns out : RV on Thursday !
---- Listening to the OST that I have some thoughts about... Did you also watch Eternal Love 1-2-3 ? The chorus tune of main song in Ember Lovesickness song is very very close to this one here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pThMKxQtgf8&t=719s Not identical, but rhythms, harmonies etc are similar. In fact, that's what struck me immediately about the three songs in the OST - they seem to be a variation of the Xing Zhaolin and Liang Jie drama's, to my ears.
Wondering if that was noted as a complaint. It seems to have avoided plagiarism accusations, unlike some other songs that only had a similar sounding small part to older songs (thinking of first version of Wang Heye's Da Feng Shui that he changed intro to once the similarity was pointed out. I leave you to puzzle out to which famous American song this was deemed too similar to, lol - Musical comparisons are also exciting research. ) If you don't know the Wang Heye nice cantopop hit song I was referring to, and although they have no relation to current drama, here are the links: 1st MV version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ud9puR06o4c&pp=ygUXZGEgZmVuZyBzaHVpICB3YW5nIGhleWU%3D 2nd stage version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqDTWlZKGug (notice Shen Yue sitting happy in the audience, there) Enjoy !
Meanwhile, I moved on (in waiting for next episode) to listen to my playlist of original and covers of 平凡之路 . The Ordinary Road. That's to me the most inspirational Pu Shu song, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbxCYdyRuro, that can be sung powerfully slow like Hua Chenyu did in 2018 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLLOqUGfTCA, or medley style like Nicholas Tse, Karry Wang and Jam Hsiao did, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExSGYFBPuu0, among other versions. There's also a nice English language adaptation by Shaun Gibson who speaks and sings both Mandarin and his own mother tongue equally well but is regrettably not that well known https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7x0GkMwyx2s. Enjoy too !
