I've watched the first 2 episodes and there are things that bother me. He took her to beast clan against her will,…
Read the fairy tale and mythologies. Beauty and the Beast is the origin of the story, not present-day moralistic and sjw outlooks. It is purposefully not set in current day modern cities, but in a fantasy ancient costume time, with a full fledged "portal" to other world "beyond" where the people are more animalistic. Despite the drama has the Princess be a more modern minded one than the protagonist in the old tale, all influenced by the author's snarky views about sexual genres, their influence on werewolf and vampire stories, and using it for fun in both Go Princess Go! and here. The driving force of recovering the "holy pearl" is also a fantasy and fairy tale common thing. That she swallowed it is very comical, but what to do : slice her up to get it back, or have her giving it back the way it is known to work in fairy tales? He can't very well come to Daxia and state his case and try seduce her there, so he has to take a shortcut and have her be brought to his kingdom and find something there that will entice her to stay and, rule of fairy tale, fall in love with him, at least in one of his incarnations, but better the whole hog. She is so lively that he falls in love first, other rule of fairy tales. Of course the wolf loves the princess! She can't see beyond appearances, and she means to resist Stockholm syndrome: abduction is not a turn-on for her, even if he is not a bad guy who doesn't care about her feelings. Not like the heroines in those Roman and Greek tales where gods and heroes routinely abducted females to be their lovers and mother of their offspring. Kui Mulang is almost like the cursed princes of fairy tales who look fearsome but have a soft heart, but his Li Xiong incarnation is both a help and a hindrance to have the princess consider his merits : she can't see beyond a nice face, to start with (uhmm "good shape!" as Qi Pa blurted out appreciatively when she first met him, thinking of the replica of the David statue by Michelangelo that she received from her parents as a gift and incentive to find herself a man, before abduction ). The drama could be retitled : "The myriad ways the Princess tried to escape her sweet fate". Until she finally sees the light and accept that yes, he abducted her, but also, patiently and lovingly waited for her there and did his best to make her acquainted with his world, until she could accept him wholeheartedly. Would she have been better off forced to marry (be raped by) the despicable A Lai ? because that was the other option in this fantasy world. Unless perhaps she time travel to modern times like her mom did, and meet a series of guys who'd never say ever to her, because she is so "qipa", odd and wilful. Perhaps those modern guys might even turn nasty werewolf-style and chop her up for dinner as it can happen. Nutshell: this is not a role model for little girls or boys of our times, of course. Just a fantasy, with beautiful costumes, lots of fun, and an impressive makeup to allow actor to play his night and day roles. (The designer is the same that did Love Between Fairy And Devil btw. You can read about the cast, crew and characters in the pinned Discussion above the Comments section).
ππππππ - I already watched it to completion on Youku. But may rewatch parts on Viki to appreciate…
I can't speak for Viki. But guessing from the other dramas they picked up, it was noticeable that there was always a delay with original platform, also because it depends on the team of fansubbers with them. So: any time after August 29. But surely before mid September.
Why has Viki only added 18 episodes so far? It finished like 4 or 5 days ago. Come on Viki, pull your finger out…
ππππππ - I already watched it to completion on Youku. But may rewatch parts on Viki to appreciate the subtitling there in different languages. Nevertheless, I am NOT going to review the subtitling in the CCC - "discussion" : There's already enough there. ππ Presently sampling the double subtitled Youku English version (direct link in CCC) which is available till episode 19 today. The schedule https://kisskh.at/photos/Z873J8_3 shows that Youku releases episodes for non VIP subscribers until end of the month. Viki cannot go faster than official production platform.
Look in pinned Discussions above Comments. I think it is not translated, though. The book cover looks nice (it is shown in the CCC mentioned in my previous comment). But if you understand Chinese and want to, you can listen to the audio excerpt that is also linked in the CCC. There's a nice wolfish howl in this recording :)
Before I say goodbye here, let me remind you of the interesting stuff you can find in the "Recent Discussions" section above this Comments one. There is an in depth review of Characters, Cast, Crew (CCC) with illustrations, pictures, gifs ; explanation of the Beast tribes the characters belong to, explanations about their names ; links to information for many things, even to Wu Xuanyi other songs and dance performances ; short biographies and filmography as available for actors and actresses including for the voice artists ; description of the filmography of the director with a note about upcoming projects in view of new regulations ; bibliography of the autor (Orange) , links to articles, to the original Beauty and the Beast tale and to its translations, and a piece about its adaptations ; links to selected Behind the Scenes including one that shows the sets and the wirework in Hengdian studios; link to a part of the audio novel by Orange, in Chinese ; link to a humorous interview of Chen Zheyuan about his work in the drama ; timeline from the date of shooting and wrapping in 2021 to promotion, and finally, airing, with direct links to the three main places to find it (Youku, Viki and Youtube Youku English channel) ; reception and various reactions, heat index attained and placing in the top ten dramas of the week. Also link to the OST pinned discussion (full on Spotify and Youtube, and Peachey Blossom's MV with lyrics in Chinese and pinyin and translation into English). And more ! Here : https://kisskh.at/discussions/lang-jun-bu-ru-yi/110459-the-princess-and-the-werewolf-cast-characters-crew + the comprehensive Profile of life and work of actor Chen Zheyuan (also with many links to explore, TikTok, Douyin, Weibo, Bilibili, Youtube... snippets and direct links to watch the dramas in the filmography) + some basics about the fandom names, colors, fanchant (for Wu Xuanyi, it's also mentioned in the CCC) - both their fandom colors are blue. https://kisskh.at/discussions/lang-jun-bu-ru-yi/109975-actor-profile-of-chen-zheyuan-tpatw-july-august-2023
I think I covered thoroughly almost everything I could think of, but if you have something to add, don't hesitate to mention it (or link it too) in reactions ! Have a lovely weekend!
Yes, that's the biggest gripe for those who wanted to hear Chen Zheyuan and Wu Xuanyi's original voices, but it is still a drama that many enjoyed, and to hear CZY's comments about his role (with original voice of course), find his interview in his Profile or in the CCC (Characters, Cast and Crew) feature added in the Discussion section above.
Gosh, I love Viki but I hate the delay...we only have 24 episodes right now, waaahhhh. I am resisting watching…
You know you can put an adblocker ? This is so much healthier to browse with : no pesky ads. YouTube tries to program against adblockers, but there are still efficient ones. Also, choose your browser carefully. I prefer Firefox. Anyway, find a competent tech around you to set your computer up. But don't go to drama cool because, for one, they are missing two whole episodes of this drama. Better go to kiss then. Or to official Youku platform, if you don't mind subscriptions. I don't. I have in line WeTV, iQiyi, Youku, and Viki. Together the subscriptions don't even cost me as much as my cinema pass, my Amazon prime, and my family's Netflix. And I can watch both on tablet, phone and computer, even cast some shows to bigger screen for the shared experience. I'm considering cutting down on the cinema pass, but this is also my way to support the flicks in my area. Cinemas are ailing, and it is always nice to go to premieres, meet the cast and crew on visits, and sample the champagne, orange juice, or small snacks, as a change for the Coke & popcorn menus to make other audience raving mad at the sound out chewing !
To have more fun about this drama, you can have a look at my pinned Discussion there about CCC (Characters, cast, and crew). It's below the Recommendations section further up on this page.
For the first time I actually felt that the original soundtracks in a drama is spectacular. The songs during the…
It is also in one of the Discussion pinned pieces above :) There are other interesting things to view there : the near complete CCC (characters, cast, crew review, full of pictures, links, and funny gifs that I had fun making ! And the detailed profile about Chen Zheyuan. For Wu Xuanyi, the CCC has the longest column.
I just read it and it's wonderful!!! How much time did you spend making that?! Mad respect for your dedication…
Thank you for those details! I have (at last!!) wrapped all I wanted to post about the Princess and the Werewolf, and will announce it in the conversation too, before I go explore other fantasy or real places :) I hope the long feature will be of interest to those who decide to give the drama a try even now that it is completed airing. Have a lovely weekend!
Only the short is available now, it was dated on screen from Dec 9, 2021 showing Wang Ruichang exiting a building in warm sportswear, looking bruised on the face.

Thanks for all this. I'm adding the funny tidbit about the fandom name into the CCC thing then : still in the works... 1Rmb is not much indeed, esp these days. I still have a few of those coins, notes, even jiao notes and the 1 fen aluminum coin in my souvenir box ! Btw, do you know when Wu Xuanyi cut her hair on stage. I saw the video,of that and assumed it was in August 2021, for the Stage Boom show, but have no more precise date. As the commenters said, this was akin to contemporary performance art, with the almost philosophical meaning... Do you know if things go well for her ? She looked a bit thin and wan, almost emaciated, in the recording of the Live Yuehua Family Concert 2023 : δΈη±δΊ (linked in the CCC). That was in May this year if I am not mistaken ?
I also thought mdl had got it wrong when I was checking to add data in the Cast Characters and Crew discussion. :) I haven't put in everything yet... Perhaps tomorrow. If you have something you'd like to mention, you can DM me perhaps. The thing is still in the works, and I have not proofread what I already wrote. It took some time to tailor the appearance with the tools at hand, and look for pix in this interesting photo album. I still think I'll have to go to episodes to get screenshots for the Poison master. Btw I wonder why MDL listed so many unimportant characters in the cast (the Elders, the Momo, and some that I clear don't remember who they were in the drama: Qi,Pa's guard in Daxia?? ) and left out a few that are at least as essential for the story.
General Ma of Da Xia, always ready to sacrifice for the country or for the Princess; He fell in love with Chun'er the twitting kitchen maid of the Beast palace.
