Disclaimer, I am not a specialist: just an explorer of the colorful jungle and Beasts that people c-ent, but pleased by the encouragement I got from a couple of Xuanyi "yiyuan" fans from MDL. On my journey, I discovered to my pleasure in addition to songs I knew, many songs that I did not know . She also worked on the side with her friend Lil Ghost, Xiao Gui, who is more than a rapper, but not yet a big star. As for screen work of Xuanyi, Douluo and the Princess are to my mind the best, but I also liked Sweet Teeht. The Romance movie is "special". Makes me think that now despite the temptation of other watching, I ought to go back to re-watch Douluo, to give it a rating too. At the time when I watched it, I only did haphazard rating, if and when I thought about logging onto MDL. Now, I am more often here, so I should perhaps add what I did watch but did not log in- hmm. That might be a long task, and I'm lazy... Plus rating and reviewing can be a chore, so I only do it on a whim. Douluo Continent did leave me a good impression, and had me watch some of Soul Land as well.

You will find more about it on the White Olive Tree MDL page : it has to do with worries about the author having been targeted by accusations, and as you know, the C-Net is very touchy about anything that touches some claims, and can turn against actors who get themselves involved with such projects. Since Wang Yuwen seemed to have run away from trouble , it had some yuanbaos worry that CZY should perhaps follow suit, for his own good. But he has decided otherwise, is happy to play something different from the eternal pink faced heart throb. He is switching to less romantic only roles, like in Dark Night and Dawn.
Now, since a launch date seems to be firmly set, and Liang Jie who is no spring chicken in C-ent, decided to join, then I assume most worries have been leveled to some satisfaction. Another worry was that it would be a dark tragedy, since the book does not have a happy end. But the drama is an adaptation, so the screenwriter's rewrite may change that; The White Olive Tree drama is indeed rumored to have a HE. That's all I know at the moment. I am looking into his past and future work and what I see is interesting; He dares to tackle different genres and not be stuck in the pink bubble with a LOL etched on it. But he's got three dramas in limbo because one is a sort of BL, another had a not his fault pb with one of the recent scandal struck actors, and another yet is awaiting for no good reasons just like TPATW was left on the backburner when it could have aired before Mr. Bad. -
I've put together a lot of info about Chen Zhe Yuan including this Dark Night and Dawn shooting (scroll to Upcoming Dramas on the page for a nifty gif of posters and snippets of reuters and fancams: it's no longer than one minute, but should already appetizer while we await wrap bouquets pictures, teasers, ost and the works lol)
At the moment, it is linked to the Profile I created in Discussions for his latest aired drama, TPATW, the little fairy tale that was almost forgotten on the shelf since 2021 ; despite it is not as "great" as what he did since (Mr Bad, Hidden Love), it was quite entertaining for me, perhaps more than for many because it made me dig into different things like old myths and folklore, loosely related to that little old drama, while admiring CZY's difficult make up and double role (even triple once, when his character cross-dressed, to humor the princess with the itchy feet), and Wu Xuanyi's ebullience as a both mercurial and stubborn young lady steeped in time travel influence, who just wanted to run away.
I like how Chen Zhe Yuan is feeling driven to do different projects. He has already done time travel, fantasy, wuxia, modern romance. I'll be looking forward to sample him in this Republican era spy story whenever it airs next year. In between of course, it would be nice if the other three delayed dramas got dragged out of purgatory so we audience could satisfy our curiosity to see them, be they masterpieces or just pastimes.

Doesn't need to get a chain around his handsome leopard or wolfy neck yet, to complement his "excellent jawline" as Lusi once joked. Did you know he's a master archer (as in Cupid) and a keen fisherman too ? The only thing he's not very good at, is singing; he's often off key when no auto tune, and he may be slightly tone deaf. Going to karaoke with him, you might need earplugs... Still, I love the guy and his spoken voice : he's among my top favorite actors. Good model too for the ads and fashion magazines he graces.

Yes Chen Zheyuan is a very interesting actor. I don't know if you like c-dramas seeing that your list is very harsh to most (LBFAD 1.5?) and although you seem to like the show Keep Running, where he is a frequent guest or host, you don't seem to have touched the dramas he appears in. In case you are ready to try some, you can head to the Profile I did for him and click on the direct links to watch the dramas (saving time from trying to find them elsewhere, I hope).
Btw I understand that you are a fan of Angelababy; I don't know why you are so sure people want to "eviscerate" her. I for one have nothing against her, just as I have no hate for any actress, or most of their fans, despite the rumored feuds of some. I have put on hold Twilight, but only for a while, bc too busy elsewhere, so will soon resume watching. I rather like Angelababy pairing with Ren Jialun, who is one in top of my long list of favorite c-drama actors (no need for a Profile for him: he is well-known, or perhaps not that much. Do people here listen to his excellent concept albums or... Lots of trivia. I am following his news as I do those of the long list of actors i like.)
But whereas I probably will not rate Twilight below an 8.5 or more eventually, I noticed that you rated it a 10 without having clocked in a single episode watched. Oversight? It happens that I also am slow in clocking in what I watch. Instead of dropping, I prefer to not even mention that I touched some dramas briefly... So my list shows what I have watched, usually to completion, and even rewatch, because I hate skipping, be it boring or not on first watch. But everyone is different, watching patterns and opinions are varied, and that's fine.
It happens that I change opinions (usually for the better) while persisting to watch a drama. I did that especially about LLTG, of which I became rather a raver! My kind of watching is probably not like most : although I like to read, I seldom read the novel that a drama is from, since I read mostly non fiction now, or other genres belonging to my first fandom. I like the quotes from old classics or old poetry: Tang poets, Rabindranath Tagore... that I notice sometimes, and since I have traveled a lot, will be attentive to some settings, as I am to the newspeak that pops up now and then. Also, and that's a hoot, to the adfest that I find now and then. TPATW started with one and I was rolf! so, put it in a Gif in the CCC column for those who might wonder if it was a familiar brand.
While I was adding a Qi Xi post to the CCC (Cast, Characters and Crew) discussion column, I also watched Marcus' latest video about c-drama news, and was interested by his mention of CZY's next project (i.e. a drama that is still not shot), so I went back to my other sources of info, and found confirmation + a link to read the novel of that new one in English, for those who like reading too. I seem to remember something about a soldier now specializing in demolition and a TV news reporter. Because she got caught in social unrest, he helped her. At the moment, it is linked to the Profile I created in Discussions for his latest aired drama, TPATW, the little fairy tale that was almost forgotten on the shelf since 2021 ; despite it is not as "great" as what he did since (Mr Bad, Hidden Love), it was quite entertaining for me, perhaps more than for many because it made me dig into different things like old myths and folklore, loosely related to that little old drama, while admiring CZY's difficult make up and double role (even triple once, when his character cross-dressed, to humor the princess with the itchy feet), and Wu Xuanyi's ebullience as a both mercurial and stubborn young lady steeped in time travel influence, who just wanted to run away.
I like how Chen Zhe Yuan is feeling driven to do different projects. He has already done time travel, fantasy, wuxia, modern romance. I'll be looking forward to sample him in this Republican era spy story whenever it airs next year. In between of course, it would be nice if the other three delayed dramas got dragged out of purgatory so we audience could satisfy our curiosity to see them, be they masterpieces or just pastimes.

He's quite a catch probably.
He's got enough pretty actresses to choose from, though. And he's still young. Doesn't need to get a chain around his handsome leopard or wolfy neck yet, to complement his "excellent jawline" as Lusi once joked.
Did you know he's a master archer (as in Cupid) and a keen fisherman too ?
The only thing he's not very good at, is singing; he's often off key when no auto tune, and he may be slightly tone deaf. Going to karaoke with him, you might need earplugs...
Still, I love the guy and his spoken voice : he's among my top favorite actors.
Good model too for the ads and fashion magazines he graces.

PS. The Profile is only parked in the Princess and the Werewolf discussions for convenience sake because that was where I continued to build it, after a first draft started while watching Hidden Love. It was intended then as a companion piece to another discussion that focused on the drama (now also companion piece to TPATW discussion of CCC). The Profile is not focusing on either of the dramas but is instead a general overview of the rising star.
It has several "chapters", focusing on different things with many illustrations, pictures, gifs, links :
1/ biodata ; family ; pet ; personality (MBTI and self assessment) ; fandom information ; social media links
2/ dramas, movies past and upcoming, with short presentations, gifs and illustrations, snippets, and direct links to watch them, last confirmed news and possible melons, + description of CZY's participation in two selected variety shows ;
3/ musical "career", knowing that he was cast for humor and handsomeness first in a forgotten boy band ;
4/ sports likes and achievements (gold medal in archery) ;
5/ food likes ;

Btw I understand that you are a fan of Angelababy; I don't know why you are so sure people want to "eviscerate" her. I for one have nothing against her, just as I have no hate for any actress, or most of their fans, despite the rumored feuds of some. I have put on hold Twilight, but only for a while, bc too busy elsewhere, so will soon resume watching. I rather like Angelababy pairing with Ren Jialun, who is one in top of my long list of favorite c-drama actors (no need for a Profile for him: he is well-known, or perhaps not that much. Do people here listen to his excellent concept albums or... Lots of trivia. I am following his news as I do those of the long list of actors i like.)
But whereas I probably will not rate Twilight below an 8.5 or more eventually, I noticed that you rated it a 10 without having clocked in a single episode watched. Oversight? It happens that I also am slow in clocking in what I watch. Instead of dropping, I prefer to not even mention that I touched some dramas briefly... So my list shows what I have watched, usually to completion, and even rewatch, because I hate skipping, be it boring or not on first watch. But everyone is different, watching patterns and opinions are varied, and that's fine.
It happens that I change opinions (usually for the better) while persisting to watch a drama. I did that especially about LLTG, of which I became rather a raver! My kind of watching is probably not like most : although I like to read, I seldom read the novel that a drama is from, since I read mostly non fiction now, or other genres belonging to my first fandom. I like the quotes from old classics or old poetry: Tang poets, Rabindranath Tagore... that I notice sometimes, and since I have traveled a lot, will be attentive to some settings, as I am to the newspeak that pops up now and then. Also, and that's a hoot, to the adfest that I find now and then. TPATW started with one and I was rolf! so, put it in a Gif in the CCC column for those who might wonder if it was a familiar brand.
While I was adding a Qi Xi post to the CCC (Cast, Characters and Crew) discussion column, I also watched Marcus' latest video about c-drama news, and was interested by his mention of CZY's next project (i.e. a drama that is still not shot), so I went back to my other sources of info, and found confirmation + a link to read the novel of that new one in English, for those who like reading too. Added in the Profile of CZY.
