Finished episode 25 just now, and I can't stand Zhu Yun personality *deep sigh*, she said MC needed a "dog time"…
Now that's harsh. But I admit I also got annoyed by ZY's withholding important information and acting coy several times. Well, nobody's perfect, so if Li Yun, who appears to be a "one woman" type-character had chosen her, then I was satisfied that the story went on to bring them to a happy end. I like faithful characters. He sometimes went too far to satisfy her but never lost sight of his professional goal and personal ethics. Perhaps the "every dog has his day" translation was unfortunate. It also annoyed me. Btw CFY said he prefers cats to dogs anyway. In fact I saw those two characters more like a tiger and a lioness : different species, same genus. Not the best pairing, but can be compatible for breeding if not always for hunting together.
I guess y'all didn't understand the part where I said I'm on 16th episode 💀
You just don't know what really toxic is. Gao is toxic. Fang is eminently toxic. If you keep on and take off your biased spectacles, you will understand the difference. Perhaps, if you are not obstinate in your bias and if you care for realism about a character who is not a "common classmate in a college youth drama" but a young entrepreneur conscious and unapologetic about his worth and the way he can lead teams to success. Have met enough toxic people to not mistake someone who is challenging and does not do false humility with areal toxic person.
But Li Xun may appear too blunt to some. Not to me. Even through the "driving away ZY episodes". He is not a saint and anger or jealousy can make him lash out (when he knows he 's gone too far, he apologizes and tries to repair damage). But he respects ZY even when she is drunkenly throwing herself at him and on his bed! He patiently waits until she is really ready for intimacy. She goes from "goody-two-shoes" to more mature, and worthy of Li Xun's sentimental attention. But for a long time, she does not requite to him her own demands of communication, and ends up being hurt because she withheld important information. Li Xun has to guess what she wants and what she thinks!
Sometimes I wondered what he saw in ZY, grudgingly accepting that she could be devoted to their common dream even if her naive justice-seeking traits got him into trouble, and they both had to pay for her actions and lack of actions (simply stay with Li Lan might have prevented Li Xun from uncharacteristically fighting physically). She had much blame to bear (even if audience only see her pretty face and coo over her hate of Fang) but she finally atoned for it and, as a reward, had a happy end for their story.
In my view, Li Xun starts out as a Roark-type intransigent individual (ref Ayn Rand, The Fountainhead) but gets much sweeter. Plus he is the real exceptional faithful one-woman lover (departing from the novel playboy), from the start, even when he teases ZY and has her "battle the virus" to see what exactly her studies could lead her to be expert in. The leaning back to watch her eat and the accepting her kicks in C-language class were so cute, the first public declaration from him "we can be together", the throbbing flaming red heart he designed when she was trying to understand his way of coding, his "Yinwei ai" declaration in the competition... also the taking her on his bicycle so she could have time for a shower, and so many small details showed his sweet attention, even if he did not "do coaxing babies".
7.4 rating on Douban from "over 150,000 ratings" as reported by Marcus, who, just as I did, clicked semi-randomly, got hooked by story and acting, liked it and recommends it. This drama is worth watching for those who don't hunger only for mindless stories with a lot of fluff and kisses and conventional tropes. It is definitely departing from the "idol drama" and "college youth romance" stereotypes. Arthur Chen Feiyu is excellent: he brought a lot of thought and found how to act the walk and way to sit of a person with a back injury; he also suggested some light-hearted moments with a ticklish bent... He aptly made his co-star shine in this (Btw, when its ZLS, Bai Lu, Zhao Liying, Yang Mi, to my mind, it's the other way round : they are the real force to make MLs shine ; perhaps someday Zhang Jingyi will do that as well. She said she put a lot of herself into the Zhu Yun character.).
Wow, thanks! I didn’t know that:) I understand how you feel. For me, it’s a strong urge to be protective and…
Yes, let's stay zen. I do read the bad comments and sometimes try to give my different perspective, tempted to blame the commenters for herd-behavior, bias and such. Why not? That's how I feel about them.
I am apt to scold even a friend who wrote he was not going to watch L&P because to him it is just an"idol drama". Well, he is a Ma Boyong reader and engaged in other genre fandom, so OK it just made me explore a bit more what exactly defines"idol drama" and why I did not feel it was one. But several aspects are indeed close to the definition, so it is harder to contradict that view. Granted, CFY is not exactly an idol singer, but he does take part in so many TV and reality shows that he has attained celebrity level even looking away from the fact of his famous family. That the OST is so important in L&P and that some fans of the drama start to identify with characters or types and want to purchase merchandise in the theme, does indeed come under the umbrella term "idol drama" that some dislike.
So, what's your opinion? Idol drama or not ? And if not, what reasons ?
one thing you all understand that the base where they all worked at their youth is not a classroom..its more like…
It was a sort of "42 school" type lab where the university under Mr Lin and his Computer Science colleague, allowed Li Xun to try out an optional type of sink or swim pedagogy, that could benefit both students and the university. Li Xun proposed the idea and it was accepted so his teachers allowed him to lead the peer to peer goal oriented project. Sometimes they stepped in when they thought it could be better handled through accepting to cooperate with "experienced" people, such as Zhang Xiaopei and the graduate school lab. The one who turned out to be a student exploiter.
Li Xun proved that he was better suited to lead that project, where indeed he did not treat students as kindergarten kids, but as adults who needed to prove their worth, in preparation for real life workplace. So he was indeed the boss there, only disputed by Gao, until Gao too, admitted that he was going to benefit from"following", although always chafing from jealousy and inferiority complex. But of course, Li Xun had no wish or competence to address Gao's psychological deficiency: he tried to help him the way he thought he could, but Gao remained resentful and ungrateful, until downright betraying his "equal footed" classmate.
To this day i don't like xu li na. She was such an irrelevant character. A very unnecessary character that had…
Don't. Some hateful characters are just good actresses. Think mother Yuan Yi in LLTG...
But I admit I was also tempted to include Chen Duling in my hate of the FL character she played in LIFOW. It even made me somewhat wary to see her name included in three upcoming dramas I might have an interest for (TTEOTM -that one for sure-, Black Lotus Casebeook, Fox Spirit Matchmaker). Trouble is LIFOW was the first drama I watched where I noticed Chen Duling, and , as Li Xun said to Zhu Yun when he was annoyed by her encroaching on his private space: "wo kan [ta] bu shunyan" 我看她不顺眼 (I dislike [her] face).
They wanted to but censorship 🥺 They don't want to encourage youth to smoke I guess.
Yes, smoking is now frowned upon, although China was a country that used to be very cigarette friendly. It has been banned with regulations in many places indoor accepting public, for many years already. Bringing a carton of cigarettes as gift is no longer a thing to do. Even hongbaos (traditional red envelopes with little or much money inside) are severely limited now, to improve morality and health 😁 There's a depiction of a hongbao in the episode where Zhu Yun gets her first princess dress. Good thing that a lighter can be used to light fireworks and not only cigarettes. Some actors are still addicted to tobacco but have to curb their use in front of cameras (stalkers, paparazzi...) but Z.Tao was caught by one, lighting one and stomping on the cigarette-butt in a parking, recently : he'll probably have to regret it... Having spent time in the US, I suspect CFY could be a smoker too, but don't know: he is officially known to like, as ZJY also does, hotpot, crayfish.. - but did not express an interest in luosifen 😂.
It is Chinese censorship, they almost never show relationships between the students, just flirting or platonic.…
Bah. I liked it, warts and all 😁 It is special, although as audience, infuriating when FL obstinately keeps rooting for the wrong man. Probably would not re-watch either, although I liked ML who also played in Dear Diary/My Babylonian lover : Richards Wang/Wang Ruichang is on my to watch list ! Although I was too pressed with other stuff to watch Brilliant Class 8 in April on iQiyi - not one I was waiting for anyway ; perhaps I'll give it a go now since the avalanche of new c-dramas of year-end is not mind -blowing, and even more "conventional" ones like SAHPH have wrapped (I rather liked that one, btw, but not raving about it like I would for RESET, LLTG or L&P -- NLB did not do it for me : I got bored with the endless lecturing, despite my bias for BJT).
I'm only halfway through the first ep but I can't get over how the main lead has similar facial features to Kris…
No, I would not mistake the two for each other. Distinctly spaced eyes for KW, more angular facial features, and his nose is shorter and rough, straight, not the special longer and wave one of Arthur's profile. Ears also are different, CFY has longer natural earlobes. Only the bushy eyebrows are vaguely similar when I compare pictures. But Zhang Jingyi easily recognized CFY's in a recent game part of a recorded interview. Anyway KW is not a person to admire even if he did have a few good songs before getting on the "evil side of the Force". CFY's eyes are clearer and show his honesty and politeness, whereas KW's to me seemed hard, shifty and hooded in his MVs. So I was never a Wu Yifan fan 🤣 Whereas I might become leaning towards the "little universe" group after L&P... (But well, I view with favor most of the young gods of c-dramas: Xing Zhaolin, Yang Yang, Steven Zhang, Ren Jialun, Z.Tao, Xu Weizhou, Luo Yunxi, Wang Hedi, Joseph Zeng, Liu Yuning, Zhang Binbin, Bai Jingting, Li Xian, Hu Yitian... to mention only a few. Multistan me 😂 : you may laugh too!)
The proposal scene seems to happened after they got their cert. then ZY was commenting how come it’s always…
Yes yes, but some accomplice (I guess dad) needed to spirit the household register out of their home so daughter could get married. Only mom might show up to make a fuss, if that's conceivable as a worry that could move Li Xun to get married before formally proposing. Scary mom....
Ummmm Why did you need to post this twice? Btw the FL character ("heroine") was not Zhou Yue, but Zhu Yun (朱韵).…
Did you mean Zhou Ye ? Yesterday Once More (movie release date 31/12)? And is that the place you watched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hor4Gb-BCp4 ? btw the title didn't seem very sure. I also found Countdown to say I Love You and other ones but the poster in the video does have it as Yesterday once more
Ummmm Why did you need to post this twice? Btw the FL character ("heroine") was not Zhou Yue, but Zhu Yun (朱韵).…
Ah, you ought to have mentioned the title of the movie you refer to, don't you think? It's fine that you are a superfan of Chen Feiyu who has watched everything he did, but that's not the case for all here, I think. I have only watched his previous movies with Ouyang Nana and He LanDou + the one with Leo Wu, Z.Tao, Jing BoRan, Sun Yi and Ma SiChun. And the Ever Night drama where he was paired with Ireine Song. But I am not familiar with Zhou Yue as actress, either.
Zhu yun’s mother is the worst and most stupid mother i’ve ever seen
That LLTG mother was harsh, yes. She almost threw me from that lovely drama, initially, because of her ideas on chastising her "wild" offspring. If some good spoilers had not set me right, I might have dropped it by episode 2!! I was musing whether it would have been better to start in media res like L&P like say from the bridge collapse scene or the hunting lodge one, and get back to these painful first episodes to better understand the harrowing mom. But in fact I don't agree that YuanYi was stupid like Zhu Yun's mom. They were completely different. YuanYi, as a divorcee, had had to suffer and just hoped her daughter be allowed a better deal. She had no "class conceit", although she was aware that the Cheng family even after gaining a marquis title, was not on the same level as the imperial family. YuanYi had initially considered powerful Ling Buyi as a good match for Shaoshang, since both families were military, but with some misgivings that he was tied to the imperial family as unofficial 11thprince - Shiyilang Zisheng was the emperor's foster son or ward, being the "nephew" of the emperor's blood brother in arms. YuanYi just was afraid that her daughter might suffer if she got inducted into the palace without proper education first, so she was relieved that the empress offered to take CSS in and teach her instead of YuanYi's own heavy handed woman warrior way. When she outlandishly spoke out to torpedo Ling Buyi's proposal, it was wholeheartedly because she thought CSS feared and did not want to get near the general. She was flabbergasted that her daughter chose to accept, in order to save her family from the imperial displeasure, when she knew that CSS had no sweet feeling for the unofficial prince - yet. YuanYi is actually likeable. She first (reluctantly, but fiercely helpful) agreed to CSS's first betrothal, and helped her daughter get over the breakup caused by imperial edict. She did not hate Ling Buyi even if his hard handed ways of having the Cheng household exercise was really over the top! 😂 Zhu Yun's mom not so: she really had no care about her daughter Zhu Yun's plans and feelings. I suppose she ended up accepting to relinquish the household registry when Zhu Yun's dad made it clear that Zhu Yun might get pregnant without authorization and further "ruin her life" as an unwed mom. She did not attend the wedding to show her disapproval, and continued to hate unreasonably her daughter's successful and devoted husband. 😣 LLTG was such a wonderful drama. And now L&P, differently.
Perhaps the "every dog has his day" translation was unfortunate. It also annoyed me.
Btw CFY said he prefers cats to dogs anyway.
