Ah, but remarkable villains are needed in a drama worth its salt :
Did you watch Pursuit of Jade? Actors Deng Kai and his young colleague Lin Muran were remarkable as psychopaths, and a few other guys likewise, who all have risen in attention since that successful costume drama.

I thought I would take a pause after watching that roller-coaster one (once the relatively "idyllic" part with funny pig butchering in first part and Zhang Linghe doing a scene that gleefully reminded me of Escape In the Dark Night, gave way to battles and bloody court intrigues), but I couldn't resist temptation faced with some current ones in the avalanche of dramas that are hitting screens. I may have too much on my plate now!

I have too much there to think about another "fandom exploration" anyway. Just sitting back and taking in a relaxing (but not totally brainless) show now: You Are My Fateful Love, where the lawyer protagonist agrees to defend a young man who everybody seems to believe is a murderer! But the main story is how a pair of former secret crushes will eventually bloom into a healthy match, from awkwardly defending an unlikely e-novel retelling of their past by the FL.
Am moving on to next episode, or last ones since "express" is forecast to be soon there.
Although I like to balance thriller drama watching with fluffy romance stories on the side, so: what is upcoming next in that category? Rebirth is on the heavy side and Veil of Shadows looks a bit confusing in first episodes. Love Beyond The Grave is also not exactly relaxing watch.

Yes he's excellent! Not only in that drama. I saw several of his other ones and some movies he played in. He commands attention even when he looks "wooden" or "stony" cold, although he can drop that facade when the role needs it. Contrary to many other actors, he focuses only on his acting career, not singing, not taking part in many variety shows, although he did a game one for The Legend of Shen Li.

In BTS and fan videos, he appears as a free spirit with his own goals in life and work, unfazed by rumors as he is unfazed by weather, just living his life as he pleases, playing and interacting with his vast circle of friends and acquaintances. He is not squandering his money but has invested in some businesses like restaurants and hair salons, so he can afford not to be working his life away on productions! As a pet owner, he is fond of dogs like Corgis. He is not always aloof, did not mind stopping, even while he was doing his jogging in Hongkong once, to kindly greet a passing lady who recognized him or allowing an unplanned selfies and autograph session with his Kids fans in an airport. Perhaps he can afford to be so free, because the characters he plays are complex and not the kind that crazy fans will be drawn to mob him, so he can accommodate those fans (like Chen Zheyuan did before he got too famous and became the prey of celeb stalkers). He certainly was pleased when his c-ent colleagues respectfully addressed him as "Dr Lin" on learning during a Q&A that he was enrolling in cinema PhD studies in Shanghai (it is never too late to continue studying and get another degree in what he likes). Quite an interesting person, so he's one I amused myself "fandom exploring" for a while : I don't join formally and do not stalk every social media or live appearance of the ones I "explore", just research enough in a given period to get my own tolerant idea about the celeb, why does he choose the script he does, why is LGX not working non stop to exhaustion as some other ones do: clearly he has a balanced view of his own health so he will not starve himself or be pushed into depression as some more fragile actors are, and he had no qualms about jilting a crazy addict female suitor among the many who trailed behind him. He knows how to set boundaries. He does not sing but he is himself a faithful fan of some singers. What I most reprove about him is that he is a smoker and seems to be a clubs and games addict. But nobody's perfect, isn't it? He's got a right to be his own man - I won't quibble any more.

I did not hate his character in TToR : Fang Xiewen was after all very faithful to Huang Yimei/Rosie, his first love . He had proved his attention to her in the wooing part with making the room as appealing to her as he could through learning about art that was totally foreign to him but needed for her, the cat, the confession about how he had lured her into his net... He did accept her money to launch his company and fuel his own ambitions, but he did not abandon her next. He shamefacedly agreed when she asked for a divorce after he meddled with her new teaching career plans. But even after divorce, he took care of her and her daughter, did send help so she could live her love dream with the dying artist as she wished. Fang Xiewen was very much 180° opposite to her short lived and sick dream lover, but he was the responsible and down to Earth realist who knew he was chasing a goddess who would not stay by his side forever, who would leave him although he would always stay ready in case she needed him. He kept admiring her until the end, while making sure their daughter would be able to study and live comfortably even if that meant purchasing an apartment in the capital city, hundreds of miles away from his home and work base in Shanghai, frequently taking time to travel to make sure they were alright, and that their daughter would be able to have her mother visit whenever Yimei would like to. He was the most complex character in the cast, apart from Yimei herself.

The ones I could not abide were the awful Korean mother who wanted to break Yimei's spirit, deprive her of flowers and friends (even when her son had vetoed it) ; and the über selfish first lover, played by Peng Guangyin, who many viewers liked. I was not really admiring the two other guys, the one who knew he was dying, and the too young pilot. Rose was destined to end up alone, after cutting "earthly ties", and the last minutes of her found freedom, riding her motorbike into the sunset, was a nice closure for the joys and pains of her entanglements.

Yes she was Xing'er aka Chu Qiao.

But actress in PA was Zhao Liying (then almost 30 years old) whereas Huangyang Tiantian here in Rebirth is 18, closer to the supposed age of the character who was around 14-15 at the height of her warrior-spy career (where she appeared both as childlike and uncannily mature beyond her years, which was easier for the original cast actress.
On the other hand, HYTT may appear as too unlined, too scar-less from battle and torture, in this sequel, same as the other leads whose makeup is really too perfect, in my opinion, for warriors seasoned in ruthless battles. But that observation has no bearing on the quality of their acting, I'm sure.

Ireine Song has not been prosecuted after investigation neither for the ruled accident (nor for abortion, and although I don't think she had any, she would not be in China where only surrogacy is prosecuted) , period: she is "not guilty", i.e. innocent and slandered, and fighting back in court against slanderers, as she should.

Ren Hao in the cast ; he was noticeable in Pursuit of Jade, recently, where his character as "Li Huai'an" had been evolved from the novel into a military commandant in the highly successful drama version, who acted briefly as a guardian and unrequited love interest to the female protagonist, Fan Chang Yu, while being engaged to crown princess Qi Shu, creating significant emotional and political conflict.

And Zhao Yaoke was "Leng Yue" in the the Imperial Coroner S1 and S2. She and her partner were a nice secondary couple of wuxia practitioners there.

That's true. I regretted that ZLY could not be back, despite the Chu Qiao that appeared in ep1 looked a little like her. Bur let's wait a bit longer before deciding or not to hate on her because she accepted this "heavy legacy".

But in the first minutes "prequel" I found Li Yunrui's "Zhuge Yue" (formerly Yuwen Yue) less impressive than the original Lin Gengxin. I am not through ep1, just paused to see what first impressions were, so my liking may change.
ButHYTT as Chu Qiao seems fine and I have no issue with Zhang Kaile as "Yan Xun" although Shawn Dou also had left me with strong impression of his role in the "first part" of Princess Agents 😅.
Same, I have things to do, so will be back to check on the first 5 episodes that just dropped, to decide whether or not I stay on....
