“ Mr Queen was completely predictable all the way until the end, and every character (except for one, but I’ll just attribute that to the obligatory second male lead death scene) got a flawless, happy ending. I so badly wanted angst, I wanted CONSEQUENCES, I wanted them to suffer because it’s so freaking unrealistic for them to get such a sappy conclusion. I wanted sacrifice (in the form of that palace child actually being poisoned to death) and I wanted Hong Yeon and the Court Lady to die in the forest fight because war isn’t pretty. Sure, that would have pissed some people off, but it would be a lot more on-brand with the Joseon period than every character turning into a superhero and defeating all the bad guy.” Omg this exactly what I wanted also.
I agree. I watch most shows on 1.25 speed and this one was no exception but I started actually ff around ep 17 and skipped a lot in the last two episodes. The last episode I kept wondering why the king after everything was over wasn’t that enthusiastic to meet his beloved queen. But when he said he felt like sth was missing that’s when I got it. When I saw the prude, gentle nice so yong I was so annoyed haha 😂.
Before I even finish reading your review let me say I totally agree with you.
While I do not regret watching this drama(not everyday I find a drama that I actually like) the ending was indeed a huge let down. I knew it won’t end well when the king made a rash decision to leave the palace just on words of someone who clearly hated his guts and wanted him dead. At first I thought that was done to just prolong the show so that we get that cute reunion when the queen finds out that the king is not actually dead. ……..Anyhow let me finish reading your review first haha .
“The only thing I did not like was the chef left the queen‘s to return to modern times and it felt like the queen was not fully the person the king had fallen in love with.
To me it felt like both the king and the chef were cheated out of a relationship they developed.”

Their chemistry was amazing. Why did they have to insert a whole different story of ming ye and sang jiu? That’s a deal breaker for me. When they went inside the dragon I thought the dream would only last a short while I wasn’t prepared for a whole new plot, new universe new characters.
Thank you. I haven’t read your review yet but I just saw you also think it went downhill after ep11. I’ve been watching on *2 and skipping after that episode. What the hell was that? I really liked this drama. Now I’m so disappointed I have to drop it after ep14.
Why do Chinese Actors have a need to look white and Pale? Answer: because the Chinese audience love it that way. They praise people for being too white and pale. That’s the beauty standard for them. They look down on and think ugly those that are not white enough. Speaking from experience. I’m a foreigner in China, what we experience here is a racism of another level, it’s mostly colorism. I’ve being around kids that boasted of their whiteness and how they make funny of fellow Chinese kids who ain’t white enough. I’m black so I’ve had a kid once showing so much interest in me and when I asked she told me: she likes me because my blackness makes her feel good about herself; she told me the brother is constantly picking on her for not being white and pale enough so seeing me ales her feel better.
Made the right choice to drop it. The ML doesn’t offer an apology nor does the FL expect one. It’s for this reason too that I just couldn’t stand seeing them together. For me this the Chinese drama with the most kissing scenes but I could care less , I skipped them because I couldn’t understand why they were together. To add to my annoyance everyone kept praising them for being such a great couple and fated to be together blah blah blah.
NipplelessAladdin a few seconds ago Wow I would pay to be reviewing all the shows I hate 😂. I’m a sucker for such reviews. Reading a detailed review like yours is great consolation after wasting my time watching sth like this.
i'm just gonna pop in here and say you should watch 'not me' if you haven't
No I haven’t yet. Okay thanks for the recommendation.

Yeah I quite agree with you mostly on the fan service. Ep 8( I think that’s the one that has a whole day date for our boys) and ep 9 and 10 were the worst for me. I kept screaming at my screen and hoping they would the move the plot along. I’m not looking forward to the rape scene , was hoping they would cut it out(since I heard they not following the book entirely). Just the mere torture scenes I have seen so far makes me very uncomfortable and to think that love would blossom from that makes me sick.
Even before I finish reading your review, just got say you are spot on 👍 😂. You have expressed my frustrations with this series pretty well. Ep 9 was the worst for me but unlike you I will continue watching. Why would I do that?I would like to read more reviews like yours criticizing all the things I will probably hate about the later episodes.
