All that glitters is not gold ?
Every time my friend says she would like to recommend a bl I ask her one question: Is it Taiwanese or Thai? If it’s the former I will definitely watch it but it’s the latter I will be hesitant to because for me Thai bl is usually just cute boys being cute. 😅Note: First time writing a review I will probably mess this one up. 😂
When recommending KP, my friend convinced me it’s not typical Thai bl, it’s way different and it will blow my mind( surely did but not in the good way though). When I saw the trailer and boooy I was hooked couldn’t wait to start watching it. The trailer promised mafia stuff what could possibly go wrong with that? Later found out, the series is titled KP for a reason, yeah everything is about Kinn and Porsche. They get at most 80% screen time. You don’t get a chance to know the other characters better so much that when they are killed off you don’t know whether to feel sad or say good riddance, coz you just don’t care about them. Don’t get me started on the pacing. I keep asking myself why so many unnecessary scenes take too long.
Plot
If you are expecting one solid story that makes sense nah you won’t get that. But if you are looking for hot men doing it there is surely a lot of action 🔥 you would like. 😉
Characters
Porsche: I’m sorry but he is just stupid. He claims he is a heavy drinker but gets stupidly drunk after few drinks and makes himself susceptible to rape( except when it’s Kinn his love interest doing they make it seem it’s anything but that). He is so kind and forgiving, he will forgive way before you even apologize 😅. No matter how many lies Kinn tells him, calls him a slut, Kinn just need to hug and kiss him and all is well. IMO there is nothing more to Porsche than being Kinn trophy bf.
Kinn: The son of the main family which is supposedly the main mafia family. Except for a few occasions I don’t see him doing any mafia stuffs. His cousin Vegas keeps complaining that he can’t measure up to him but I keep asking myself measure up to what exactly????IMO Vegas mafia character is way more believable than him. He sometimes also make the most nonsensical decisions and don’t tell his boyfriend what’s he doing and later blames the bf for not trusting him 🤦🏽♀️.
VegasPete: The more I watch the more I prefer this couple to the main one. Their love story is nonsensical to me but it’s more interesting. There is at least tension but with the main couple everything is so easy. The main couple’s conflicts like I said earlier on they are resolved way to easily with just a kiss.
Porchay: awww what a sweet child. That’s what he is. Typical teenager head over heels for a stranger. Even when he later on founds out that this stranger lied to him, got close to him just to investigate his family his only concern is whether or not this stranger ever loved him.
Kim: Kinn’s brother also Porchay love interest. This one na detective of the main family, his investigation makes up just 1% screen time. You would think someone doing sth that actually matters to the plot would get more screen time but noooo.
Anyhow: With all this complaints I should have dropped it by now but I won’t. Such strange loyalty but I always finish what I’ve started. Besides I have fan fic to run to for canon compliant stuff so I can get more character study and whatnot. Fan fic has a way of making these bland characters seem more interesting.
Won’t be fair to not add things I liked.
I think the actors did their best. As compared to other Thai bl I have seen they are more talented and their chemistry is amazing.
I also like how on screen they do seem comfortable with each other during intimate scenes.
The sex scenes are hot. 🔥
The music is fine too.

It’s so frustrating
Spoilers aheadWtf?
You would think someone that was given a second chance in life to live in someone’s body after he almost died, will do things differently in this new life . He makes the same choices. Goes back to the same job , gets entangled with the same person.
Just why y y y y y y y?
I hate Ming. But I’m more frustrated with Joe. How can Joe expect a different outcome in his second life when he is doing the same things that got him killed in the first place?
Also why is it always impossible for the mc to be with someone nice, someone who respects them, someone less toxic? Why must the mc end up with ml even when the ml is like the worst person in the whole show?
I’m so fng mad 😡

I hated the glowing eyes
Every time I watch bl I try to shut my brain off, watch with no expectations of a decent plot. Unfortunately you can’t really shut your brain off and can’t help but hope that somehow the bl won’t be that bad. This was uh haha let’s say I don’t have words for it.Be warned spoilers ahead….
What I disliked
1.I hate the “Im willing to die for you” kind of love that comes from nowhere. I mean you barely know this person, and even after you just found out he initially wanted to use you and kill you to save his ass you still wanna spend eternity with him?
2.I hate when people go like “my brother is too caring, why he is always checking up on me to be assured that I’m safe.” That to me is being ungrateful.
I would like to believe that after you were kidnapped as a child and even now as an adult your are fond of spending times with hot strangers you barely know, your brother has every reason to be worried.
3.Why the heck did the main lead kill his bff? He could have stopped him from hurting his ka lover without having to kill him. But nooo, his loyalty is to this lover he’s known for two seconds. Also, I thought as someone soon to die he is weaker than his bff who is full of life, how the heck is he stronger than bff?
4.I also recall the vampire main lead hurting some other student in the bathroom. So, main lead is bad person.
5.I was disappointed by the ending, but not because one of them died. If anything I wanted both of them to die. The vampire guy had no problem killing his first human lover for fun and somehow now that his life is at stake he can not bring himself to kill his new lover even if it means he has to die himself? How does this even work? Was his first love not strong enough to give in to the bloodthirst? Also like others have pointed out, he could have found ways to drink his now lover’s blood without having to kill him.

Boston is the winner kkk ?
In a show where the word love is misused because it hardly exists. Everyone is just on for a good duck. All of us be ashawo haha.Boston makes it on my list of beloved characters. Of course in real life I would not wish even my worst enemies a Boston in their lives haha. But got to give to the guy he stayed true to himself, he was an a***hole through and through and unapologetic about it. That’s what we call consistency haha. Too bad someone was hell bent on taking him for who he is and supposedly loving him no matter what.
I loved Sand. I adored Ray. I cared less about the other couples. These two were the only reasons I kept watching, the reason I’m giving this “interesting show” a 9. My fav couple they were not perfect but whatever they had was so much better. Sand was perfect for Ray. Ray was a douche sometimes but he quick to realize his mistakes and seek out Sand. Unlike Boston the Ashawo, who even had the audacity to f someone while on a date with his bf.
Spoilers
I sympathized with Nick. I get it all he wanted was love, but he was looking for it in the wrong person. The only time I was genuinely annoyed with Boston was he forged a lie to hook up with Top. But I didn’t blame him much for breaking Nick’s heart because he at least had the decency of telling Nick so many times before that he would not give him what he wanted. He was honest with him, he told him he is an ashawo and was not willing to be anybody’s bf. It’s Nick who insisted on sticking around. At first I thought all Nick wanted was to be loved, so I was happy for him when some one, Nick’s showed genuine interest in him and was even willing to be his bf, but Nick only had his heart set the ashawo.
I never bought into Top and Mew’s love. First of all I was annoyed by how Mew’s so called friends were so eager to get him laid. Was like let the guy be, he will get there himself when he wants to.
Anyhow going into the show I knew exactly what I getting into so not gonna complain about any of the “interesting” stuffs.
Everyone is an Ashawo in this series 😂.
Most problematic lines/ scenes for me.
There were so many of them as expected
But this one’s stuck with me.
Mew telling Ton: I’m going to finally sleep with Too because I’m afraid he will get bored of me I don’t.
Ray wanted to have a threesome with his bf and his bf’s ex. Was like this show has gone too far with fan service.
I predicted that Sand and Top were also going to kiss haha since I saw everyone was kissing everyone it didn’t matter whether or not they’re “dating” other people.

It would have been the best bl ever for me if it was not for……
SPOILER ALERT
Maybe some of y’all thought I was gonna say the ending.
While I was annoyed by that crappy ending I was not surprised by it at all. It’s rare for mainland Chinese drama to have happy endings, I didn’t think a bromance was gonna be an exception. If anything I was prepared for the worst possible ending. My biggest complaint is not the ending itself but events leading up to that ending. Nothing made sense. It was like they were hell bent on having a tragic end. It’s not unheard of for a series to have many plot holes and even throughout the entire there were so many of them but the ones in the last episodes were just too much. For instance;
you telling me Suyu who hated being given hand outs would just easily accept to go to an hopistal appointment made by Wubi’s creepy brother without even questioning the whole thing at all?
Also didn’t that creepy brother even consider that even after killing Suyu, Wubi would not live without Suyu like literally? And the way those two boys used to spend every minute together didn’t creepy brother not consider that by attempting to kill Suyu he would end up harming Wubi as well?
I couldn’t even be sad at Wubi death, I honestly don’t know what the writers were aiming at by killing him. I guess they wanted to maintain the ending in the original material. But that don’t make sense either because they had changed so many things, I don’t understand why they couldn’t just change the ending as well. One more thing, I feel like the series was also unnecessary too long. By the end of three quarters of the show, most conflicts were already resolved, relationships were mended, as for the rest I felt like it was just dragging down and I was just there waiting for that miserable ending. I can’t say enough about how predictable that ending was omg. The moment Wubi gave duo duo that watch, I knew he was gonna be the one to die. When the creepy cousin started asking Wubi funny questions like; seeing you can do anything for Suyu are you willing to give him your dad’s company?—/ I was like dude, if what you want is the share of the company or rather whole of it, won’t killing Wubi’s Father be more sensible that killing this only 18 year child because you think he is a potential threat? 🤦🏽♀
Anyway enough ranting, let’s move in to the things I liked.
This show is so much better than the show; addicted. Wubi was a better person than Guhai, he never really forced himself on Suyu, he waited for him. Their relationship seemed to have naturally grown. Notwithstanding some plot devices at the beginning for our boys to get together, the rest didn’t feel that forced. There was no nonsensical accidental falling into each other’s arm and what not.
The star for this show for me was Duo duo. Heck I loved that child. I loved the whole extended family thing they had. Their cute moments together made this little wicked cold heart of mine beat. Also I liked the fact the boys were actually studying haha all the damn time.
I wish they didn’t make the rich folks seem unredeemable though. I mean they were not that bad. I think they deserved a chance to show their humanity and kindness. Like Wubi father cared for his son, and losing his wife was not easy on him let alone having his son blame him for his mother’s death.
Cringy parts
I didn’t like that crush who turned into a fan girl and was shipping the boys. For anyone paying attention would have known that the boys were more than just friends, we didn’t need a fan girl confirming their relationship .
I didn’t like that dance the guys performed at duo duo’s school. There was nothing wrong with it just made me cringe.
I didn’t like those forehead kisses and pecks in the dark because they left me wanting more 😂. They should have just stuck to hugging.
I kept checking if it’s indeed from China mainland, sometime I wished it was from Taiwan then our boys would at least kiss once. Yes while I was satisfied with the mutual pining I couldn’t help but wish for more.
Fav parts
Suyu: so Aunt Zhou is the most important person in us your life?
Wuyu: You should use that brain of yours more on other things than just solving maths problems.
Or when Suyu asked Wubi why he was crying when yet it wasn’t him that was hurt by that creepy uncle.
总结,那个结局很垃圾。but if a show is called; brother don’t run away, that’s a dead give away like literally.

Hua Yang why you gonna be like that ?
For all who enjoyed this show good for youI did too till I learnt from the novel that there’s grape from the mc 🤦🏽♀️
I can’t possibly root for someone who continually deceives and hurts the person he claims to love so much.
SPOILERS FROM THE NOVEL
Imagine your bf being tormented 😫 thinking you went through hell that you were gang graped and he did everything to rescue you from that hell only for it not be true just a part of your ploy to get your bf madly in love with you.
Copy and pasted comment left by someone on the novel:
“May this type of love/lover never find me.
Hua Yong, you’re a deranged bastard!”
With that I’ll be dropping it
Too bad I love Chinese 🥺☹️😩
But I can’t stand unrepentant grapists and terrible people that think can get away with anything and still justify it because they’re doing it cuz they love the person,

So fng confusing
What have just watched?I’ve t watched the Thai version so went in with no idea of the original story.
I couldn’t follow
The story didn’t add up
Also the way it jumped from scene to scene it didn’t seem coherent at all.
I know the standard is already low for bls but this was too much.
I’ve liked most Korean bls I’ve watched. They’re it that great but ain’t this bad.

Best Thai bl for me
While it’s not perfect it did a lot of things right. The best thing in this drama is Khun Yai. I loved how he cared for and respected Jom. Khun yai respected Jim’s boundaries, he didn’t force himself on him, though he fell really fast for Jom he was patient enough to wait for Jom to accept him and want to be with him.
Fav parts
Drunk Khun yai was not a nuisance nor did he try to do anything to Jom. And yet when he wake up the next day he was concerned that he might have done something to Jom. I’m most Thai bl when someone is drunk we know we gonna have some non con sth.
Eeeh I’ll get back to this review later I’m tired haha 😂

Ruined by misguided feminism
To say that I was disgusted by this series is an understatement. I only started watching it because it was the only English dubbed kdrama I could watch on Netflix. Oh boy I think staring at a blank wall would have been so much better than watching this nonsensical show. What I didn’t like about the series.
First of we have our fl, who has a body count of 100+, she brags about how men to her are just for sex, she changes them as fast as she changes her clothes. But since she is the fl we should root for her right? After all she is such a cool fighter who feels justified in beating the shit out of any man who she deems guilty.
Also what was that with the ml and 2nd ml being all in each other faces, kissing and all that? I ain’t homophobic or anything but it kind felt like they were just forcing it seeing both men were clearly not gay. Maybe one of them was but I never got that far to find out. I just felt like since we know the main couple will be m/f spare us the queer baiting please.
The message I got from this show is that all men are bad, cheaters, worthless, and women are justified treating them like crap and judging them without any clear evidence of them actually having done anything wrong. I’m sorry I’m all for equality and lifting everyone up but not at the expense of trashing the other gender. I don’t like shows that preach such a message that it’s okay for women to do the things and be what they hate men for.

Unpopular opinion
Unpopular opinion: I don’t think Shine is the masterpiece people hype it up to be. To me, it feels like cheap fanservice dressed up as a serious political/romance thriller.Main couple (Trin & Tanwa — MileApo): They didn’t work for me. Tanwa comes off as childish, so it’s hard to take him seriously; I honestly don’t get why Trin is into him. Victor made far more sense to me.
Second couple (the colonel & the journalist): Naran, Krailert
They’re the reason I kept watching. The chemistry is insane; their scenes are 🔥🥵 and genuinely compelling. That said, even with them, the writing undercuts realism, like flirting in a bathroom during a high-profile event in a period hostile to homosexuality. It just made no sense. Instead of coming across as daring or romantic, it pulled me out of the story because it felt careless and unbelievable.
That’s my biggest problem with the show: it tries to blend politics, social commentary, and romance, but it never balances them well. The “serious” parts feel hollow, and the romantic parts lean too heavily on fanservice. The end result is a story that wants to be meaningful but doesn’t have the weight or realism to back it up.
Shine wants to be a layered political romance, but deep down it’s still just fanservice wrapped in fancy packaging. 😒
That being said, if you enjoyed the show, that’s great, I did enjoy certain parts too. This is just my personal take, so don’t come for my head 😂. Feel free to disagree, just keep it respectful.

On second thought Chi Cheng deserves better
EditCame to edit my review after watching ep 18
No spoilers
I think Wu Suowei doesn’t deserve Chi Cheng
The MC is too funny. I haven’t laughed this much in such a long time. I had sworn off BL because I couldn’t stand the bad acting in Thai dramas, too much reliance on smut. I was just reading yaoi manhwa 🙈 But if this is the future of BL, then I’m back for good 😂
Things I liked
This drama feels realistic. The MC didn’t fall for the ML overnight
He wasn’t straight then suddenly gay for the ml 😂
It took time for him to come around.
His dramatic reactions to the ML’s touch were such a breath of fresh air.
The MC wasn’t a pushover, and I loved him for that
. I do wish the ML was less forceful, but I’m still glad he didn’t cross the line.
It’s easy to write MLs who assault their way into a love story, but harder to write strong ones who exercise restraint.
Things I disliked
I didn’t like how much the ML liked his snakes.
I hated that he ordered some guys to gang rape someone who had helped his father take away the snakes. Yes, he told them not to kill the guy, but I was like; bro, you’re putting him through something probably worse than death.
I didn’t like the MC at first. He felt weak, like a pushover, letting Yue Yue’s new boyfriend hurt him more than once. Honestly, it felt like karma when the ML caused that boyfriend to crash and almost die (which, by the way, was a crime, one of many committed by the ML).
I absolutely hated it when Chi Cheng threatened to rape Xiao Shuai if he didn’t convince Da Bao to sleep with him. That’s criminal behavior. Why not just be patient and wait for your straight boy friend to come around? You can’t expect someone to become gay overnight and be okay with being intimate when they’re not ready.
I also didn’t like how Xiao Shuai pressured Da Bao to go all the way with Chi Cheng. It felt like he was impatient to get his straight friend laid. Da Bao isn’t gay (yet), and he’s doing this because of revenge.
P.S. A huge part of my enjoyment is thanks to the Chinese language. Some things that might not be funny in English were absolutely hilarious in Chinese.
I do prefer the second lead
Can the other half just be about them?
I want to see more of them
Their dynamic seems more healthy than the first couple
Chi Cheng is too horny for his own good and I think he take it easy with his boyfriend bc he’s new to all this
I think you can love someone but still not be ready for intimacy

Why are Chinese series so long ?
I’m not a fun of Chinese series. However I have to watch them to improve my Chinese. The only choice I have when it comes to Chinese series is between really bad series and the ones that are not that bad. Guess this one falls into the latter category.Characters:
The FL is so good. Her medical skills are top notch. Which is not surprising because as a princess she had time to practice medicine, also just because her best friend and father were doctors, that makes her a doctor too by default. She can cure all manner of sicknesses. I was actually waiting for her to raise the dead or sth. 😂 😂
She turned from an impulsive princess who attempted to assassinate the king in broad daylight in front of guards to a thoughtful and calculating person who had to count the cost of her actions. Damn her luck, she puts herself in very dangerous situations but no worries she has a savior, the ML.
I don’t mind having a strong female lead but making her the only strong woman was just so annoying. I won’t even bother to talk about the other characters. As the title suggests this whole series is about JiuLing. The show made sure you cared about no one but her. It throws in your face, how good she is at everything, how all men like her, how she is so kind and selfless. I guess her only flaw is that she didn’t know Kung fu(that’s okay her battlefield was the sickbed, leave the fighting to her savior).
Honestly I’ve had to endure worse Chinese series for the sake of improving my Chinese. Wish there was any other better way. For those who would like to watch this, it’s honestly not as bad as others out there.

I like bl but this a big f no for me
Too painful to watchCringe dialogues and situations
I hate that fujoshi girl, let people f be, let romance happen naturally don’t make it happen.
The mc has no backbone. He lets the famous step brother boss him around.
I didn’t get past 1st episode, I couldn’t stick around for their incestuous romance.

Cringe ? awkward oops ?
Maybe this is not for me.I have failed to like this.
But I’ll watching it because I get to laugh at how bad it is. Maybe I have slightly high expectations for Taiwanese bl.
First of all, I was not sold on the main couple’s romance. I don’t usually expect things to make sense but aaah this was too much. I had a problem with the way their relationship started, how do I describe, for lack of a better term-so plot deviceish 😂. They caught feelings for each other way too fast. The other guy is 17 but he was the ka one doing the most omg. They were kissing religiously. Also aaah the kisses were not giving 🤣. Maybe I prefer slow burn romance. I don’t know 🤷🏽♀️. I think I like Chinese bl better. Chinese bl usually makes me feel like the people are actually in love and when they finally hold hands or sth it really feels like they’ve earned those moments. But in this one whereby Ep 1 they are already kissing….
And the dialogue omg 😆 it’s too cringey for me.
