Yup they haven't showed what happened after Bian Jie got out of the car trunk. My guess is that he didn't manage to run too far and Jin Manfu smashed his head with the shovel or killed him somehow. Then he buried Bian Jie in the grave.

I think Xiao Qi is not the kid he interviewed earlier coz the kid at that age would recognize and remember Wang Shitu already. The kid also gave a different name which he didn't have to. The police wouldn't ignore the kid and throw him back to the streets either lol. If Wang Shitu knew his son is dead but not accepting that fact, if it's revealed towards the end, that would be a wow moment!
I just saw a theory and it could make some sense if that's the case.
The theory goes that Bian Jie really isn't his mom's biological son and Wang Shitu's wife gave birth to a pair of twins. She and Bian Jie's mom know each other so she gave one to the latter when she couldn't give birth. That would explain why Bian Jie and Xiao Qi look so alike. But...I couldn't explain why Wang Shitu wouldn't know that if this theory is right.

Hmm yeah...why not? Wang Shitu was very sure that he would recognize his own son when he sees him but maybe he really couldn't recognize him. When Qin Yong pointed out the similar timing of Doudou's disappearance with Xiao Qi to Wang Shitu, his reaction was like trying hard not to go further with that thought. I think WST's afraid to get his hopes high coz I'm sure he's been disappointed one too many times. Maybe that's why he didn't get their DNA tested.

Oh I don't remember anything about Wang Shuai's dog. I thought it was a random dog buried there. Bian Jie seemed to look afraid of Du Yi so it could be that Du Yi threatened him to steal some money and run away with him. It could well be Bian Jie of course but there are so many possibilities.
Now I’m wondering if Bian Jie is innocent and it’s Du Yi who actually killed Wang Shuai! The way and the things he told his poor dad is sus as heck. Also during the flashback of the 3 kids leaving the arcade, it feels like Bian Jie and Wang Shuai listened to Du Yi more. It doesn’t feel like Du Yi had to be careful of Bian Jie like what he told the police during questioning. The flashback of Bian Jie stabbing Wang Shuai might be a false scene to confuse us.

Let me type my thoughts so far: 1984 Lao Jin sent a kidnapper to kidnap Bian Jie but the kidnapper didn’t know that Doudou exchanged shirt and hat with Bian Jie & kidnapper the wrong boy. Doudou might be Xiao Qi & for some reason he lost his childhood memories. Real Bian Jie saw the kidnapper. What did he do with that info? Did he tell his family?
1993 Bian Jie killed Wang Shuai. What were they fighting about? Bian Jie & Du Yi buried WS’s body and BJ went home to steal money to run away. Sister Yan saw him stealing and she picked up a photo. Why did she look shocked?
1996 BJ & DY didn’t know the body was dug up and replaced by a dog’s carcass that’s why they were shocked later in 1996 when BJ saw the video. Maybe Lao Jin followed them and saw what happened, duh up the body & put it inside grandma’s coffin.
Did Yan hit BJ on the head then she and dad brought BJ to a house that looked like the house in her snow globe? And mommy saw it and got traumatized & went cuckoo? She never recovered coz hubby’s been feeding her the wrong meds. He didn’t want her to talk.
