Honestly, if SDM was a real person, and NDS was a real person.I would see it as SDM being an opportunist. SDM…
Even if it wasn't morally correct to use her sister story, IJ was smart. She used every resource she could find to succeed and, thanks to her, SDM was able to be a CEO again. I'm not defending her as lying is wrong, but you have to admit she was really motivated to succeed and she didn't need the scriptwriting pixie dust to do so.
The writer got lost midway. SDM's character stopped making sense.I do agree with you: we have reasons to like/love…
Regarding the sailing without a map incident, it was out of character for HJP to be THAT against it. He took risks in life (that's how he accomplished all of this) and I'm sure he knows in business you need to also take calculated risks. That's why it felt wrong for the writer to make him almost yell that (but I'm sure she wanted to use it to justify the Dodal endgame). Although it was funny for her to send DS to his uncle place with a map. Like you need a map to go to a physical place but you don't need it in business... (cough cough).
Yes, I'm aware that sailing without a map in business is a quote you should use wisely, but HJP understanding it to a certain extent and then being completely against it was the result of poor writing. The pre-butchered character would have given some constructive criticism, but no, let him get angry.
The ending is so Disneylike, I'm not even bothering to explain.
And yes, "sometimes" might be the keyword. Such a pity they forgot it in the elevator scene.
At Age 12 Dal Mi was a young teen who had little to worry about. She just spent time playing or arguing with her…
Thanks for the regards, but maturity is having open hard conversations. I'm not saying people don't lie, I am saying it is not okay to lie and it's not okay to not confront people when they lie to you, to say nothing when they break your trust. Best relationships are based on trust and trust is gained having those conversation, not avoiding them. Avoidance is never the right way to face things.
But I don't want to argue on the Internet as it's not the right place to do so. I genuinely thought you were trolling, I apologize for the way I talked.
I think it's cute that SDM has all thse "Aha" moments, because as a viewer, I kept having the "Huh"? moments. One…
Yeah, we all had thos "Huh?" moments, not only with SDM. I will never understand how HJP understood the "sailing without a map" reference in the 2nd(or third) episode (and DS didn't) and then go all "never!" in the elevator (I'm not even questioning if the quote is right or wrong).
SDM getting angry at DS for asking "why do you like me" and then go all "because it's you". Like man, why did you get angry if you like him so much? That's why the kiss was so awkward.
DS asking HJP to leave emotions aside in last episode. That's... unexplainable. Is the writer mocking us at this point? It's like someone wrote the dialogue without having any idea what happened the previous episodes.
Where did the HJP helping Noongil go? When SDS said he met the investor, I went all "huh?".
There's lot of many many examples. I'm writing this comment with no endgame in mind, just the bad writing (which unfortunately affected the main couple more).
I would like to have a conversation with the writer, but I'm afraid my first words will be "What the **** is wrong with you" and... that's why I'm not pursuing this matter.
Things I liked? The twins calling SDM an incompetent CEO. That was some truth over there (ofc Disney fantasy drama world proved them wrong with all the winning and flexing from last episode).
I'm sorry for the fans of the main couple but we disliked the writer's job. Not personal, not against the actos. Just against poor writing as I came to the conclusion that with a better writing I would have been okay with either ship. (although HJP would still be #1 in my heart)
Have you ever been in a relationship with someone that you were attracted to for a long time and you don’t know…
The writer got lost midway. SDM's character stopped making sense.
I do agree with you: we have reasons to like/love people.
1. Attraction/infatuation: (up to 3 years) you are attracted to people that give you the same type of love you received when you were a kid. If the love you received was dysfunctional, bad news you will be attracted to the same type of people. Was SDM attracted to DS? I would say a big yes. Maybe he reminds her of her father and that's why she never liked HJP. (speculations only)
2. Love: you fall in love with people that share the same interests, values and beliefs. In this category maybe DS/DM shared the same dream but their belief system couldn't be more different. In this point HJP/DM would better fit together as they both believe the same and understand each other on a deeper level (they both talked to the ancestor lady while DS said he didn't believe, they both understand the letter DS didn't and many other examples). They are pretty similar which would have make sense for them to be together. DS had to give up his beliefs in order to be in a relationship with her.
Love has reasons. Attraction/infatuation has reasons why but it doesn't need an explanation for both parties involved. They just "love" each other. (one of the reasons many marriages end up in divorce)
DS/DM fit better in the infatuation/attraction part. They are still infatuated at this point as the 3 years gap didn't count (they had an fantasy image about their relationship, that's why they are still infatuated). So for me it's a bad idea to get married taking in consideration that you can't come up with any reasons for loving someone (that's why in dating is recommended to get to know the real person before getting too infatuated and look for advice from friends when you are already infatuated).
That's my 2 cents on the matter. I could go on and on as I love reading relationships books and listed to podcasts. And the smile of SDM will always be a mistery for me. Is she happy she didn't have to do anything and all the things got in the right place for her without having to move a finger? I mean, she looked like "I'm glad you are okay with everything I chose".
Anyway, they butchered all characters, HJP included. He understood the "sail without a map" in the first episodes but *magically" he didn't in episode 15. And don't let me start with the poor HDS. He was such a lovely nerd the first episodes. He never learnt anything and the writer made him regress big time in episode 15.
Conclusion? Bad writing all over the place. With a better writing either ship could have sailed.
At Age 12 Dal Mi was a young teen who had little to worry about. She just spent time playing or arguing with her…
I can't tell if you're trolling but... the last phrase? In which part of this world it's considered smart to never confront anyone on anything and never have open conversations with the people that lied to you? Let me know please. I'm pretty sure you're just trolling at this point
One of the best romantic series I've seen. Even the length is perfect. I love how the characters have depth and you empathize with their fears and feel their emotions. Great acting. The only thing that I didn't like that much is the time skip, which is too long in my opinion (shorter would have been better)
I really want to hear your opinion once you finish it. Till episode 9 I was okay with the Dodal endgame. Episode…
I really liked your comment. Probably the best comment from a NDS fan I've read so far. And I agree with the fact that HJP wasn't presented as a romantic interest. But then in episode 13-14 they had some moments together that made me question the endgame. And their relationship (with good writing ofc) could have make more sense to me (not the way was presented, but it had great potential).
What the writer did to NDS character was wrong. I liked him at first with his nerdy charms, started to dislike him when he became toxic and liked him a bit for episodes 13-14 when he said to DM "what we had wasn't real" and "I don't want to see you again". I was like: "yeah, man, go get them!". But then his character regressed big time in episode 15 when he went all "I want to be your trophy" when this was clearly the problem he overcame with his father (it looked like all these moments of growth went to nothing).
And I love how you mentioned the movie 500 days of summer as I recalled it a lot while watching Startup. I would have loved an ending where DS realizes he liked a version of her that doesn't exist and then go and find his own dream. I hated how he had to give up on his values/beliefs to fit hers (he didn't believe in personalities based on blood types until he met her & others while HJP and SDM had the same beliefs).
The Jidal endgame I liked was the one that based on Cyrano, but I admit they didn't present them as romantic partners. But DM/DS together wasn't a healthy thing and him proposing because they win some bid wasn't a good reason for choosing a partner for life.
To sum up: I have zero problems with the acting (except for Suzy, as I felt she had more micro expressions in her scenes with HJP than NDS, which could be because KSH was able to influence her with his acting). And NJH was so pretty, there were some scenes I went all "wow" watching him.
My biggest problem will always be with the writing. I agree with you: an open ending with her getting to know the real him would have been way better and more realistic.
Normally a love triangle in Kdrama land sees both the ML and SML get a proportionate time with the FL. What this…
I couldn't explain it better. I liked SDS initial charms (I am more of a nerd myself so he was one of us) but they changed his character to fit the perfect teenage dream.
Like you said it here: "From the dialogue, the stares, the camera angles, plot device, and etc... all showing fans that a Jidal ending is possible." and adding that the OST has songs with "love letter" titles, maybe it's not our fault we got a SLS.
Thank you for taking the time to explain this. I think most of the comments in this section are not toxic, just…
I love your comment. It's so nice to read this and I can understand where she could be coming from. The most mature thing we can do is accepting the fact that everybody has their own views based on what they experienced, and that's okay.
And on the actor criticism, actors are doing their job in front of their clients (the audience). If you have a product and someone buys it, the client can say something along the lines "I don't like this". Is it a toxic thing for a client to not like a product? The whole narrative or sales/marketing/business is listening to your client to make a better product (in this case buying the product equals spending your time watching it).
At my job there was countless times I got it wrong and faced criticism. Is it okay for me to expect no one will say anything negative about my job? That's not even healthy. Receiving feedback helps you improve, and we should learn to be more resilient in this area.
I just hope the actors are trained the same way to deal with criticism because being an actor is really hard. I hope they don't take it personally: criticism on their job (what they do) doesn't say anything about them as a person (who they are). Two different things.
PS: although I prefer HJP over DS, NHJ did a great job and he's really handsome and pretty, that's the reality
I cannot be impressed when infatuation is glorified. We know that irl this kind of marriages usually end in divorce as people were so infatuated they didn't judge character/values before getting married
