As of now, it’s a 10/10 for me. No question! I just know this is one of those dramas I’ll keep rewatching again and again, all because of our shameless, funny, cute, loyal, and totally dramatic couple! They’re seriously living rent-free in my head right now! ❤️
oh gosh, should I start this? This sounds even more frustrating than HL.
If you don’t mind a heavier and more mature story, then go for it. It’s a slow-burn romance with a dark, emotional tone, but it still has some sweet and cute moments.
As much as I can’t wait for the divorce era, I’m also really looking forward to the reconciliation between the two leads. It’s bittersweet, knowing that everything started from something as simple as a child’s plaster wound and that’s what made her fall in love with him.
Honestly, whoever was in charge of the score should not be working in this field. The music score in this drama is honestly one of the worst I’ve ever heard. It completely ruins the mood of some scenes. Instead of enhancing the emotions, it feels like someone just slapped random sound effects on top. Currently on ep 8, so hopefully it gets better because I actually really like the drama.
It’s nice to see Xu Yan still cares for her elder sister. She knows deep down it’s not her sister’s fault but their parents’ favoritism. The problem is, her sister acting oblivious to how Xu Yan was treated just feels unfair. She’ll never really understand since she’s always been the favored one. Still, she has a sweet side, so hopefully with time they can rebuild their bond.
You have to check out the novel. This one can honestly be considered one of the most popular C-novels among i-readers,…
Sure, why not? I’m not exactly sure what genre you’re looking for, but this drama gives off vibes of rebirth, historical, smart main character, and revenge. I don’t know which ones you’ve already read, so I’ll just share a few that I think would totally match your taste!
Marriage of the Di Daughter Rebirth of a Star General The Rebirth of an Ill-Fated Consort The Beloved Concubine of the Eastern Palace 100 Techniques to Conquer the Emperor in the Harem Legend of Concubine’s Daughter Minglan Poison Genius Consort To Be A Virtuous Wife Eight Treasures Trousseau
The first 3 on the list are from the same author as The Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage. 2 of them have already been adapted into dramas. The first one is The Double and the second is Legend of the Female General.
When this drama first aired, I was complaining so much about it… and now here I am, making it my first rewatch of this year 😂 As someone who lives for the romance genre, this really hits my sweet spot. I guess I ended up ignoring all the flaws I used to complain about, like the lackluster fighting scenes, and just got swept up in the story. Can’t believe I went from dragging it to being totally hooked… the clownery is real lol. 🤡

Hahaha, honestly, as someone who’s read novels with over 1,000 chapters (even some hitting 10k!), 200 chapters doesn’t feel like much at all. But it’s totally fine if you don’t want to read it. At least that way, you won’t end up comparing the drama adaptation with the original work. I do kind of worry though, if they do ever make a drama out of it one day, the expectations will be super high since it’s so popular.
I feel like I need to read this novel because the casting for this is a hot topic on chinese web
You have to check out the novel. This one can honestly be considered one of the most popular C-novels among i-readers, and it’s been a hot topic ever since they announced the drama adaptation like 5 years ago.
I haven't read the novel yet, but was TPOB truly that bad.? I saw a lot of people enjoying the novel.
Some people can tolerate those “forced intimacy” scenes in novels, but honestly, I just can’t. There were way too many problematic elements in the original story for me. Thankfully, the drama adaptation cleaned all of that up. They removed the messy stuff and made everything between the leads as husband and wife feel a lot easier and healthier to watch.
I’m at ep 8 right now, and honestly, I can see why people love this drama even though it comes with that torturous, heart-squeezing vibe 😅. The pacing has been really good so far. Not dragging, not rushed, and with only 24 eps, the plot feels nice and tight.
What I really like is the FL and ML’s temperament. Both are steady, composed, and genuinely likable. The ML might have a title, but he doesn’t act arrogant at all. Even the way he talks is so gentle and calm; it makes his character extra appealing. Loving their vibe so far.
This drama is super light. Even though they tried to add some political drama (internal and external country stuff), the problems just didn’t feel that serious and deep. The main leads’ chemistry? Meh, honestly just so-so, nothing exciting at all. The 2nd couple wasn’t much better, but at least they’re cute, so I didn’t mind them too much. The 3rd couple though… total filler, I skipped their scenes every time 🙄.
Since the romance side didn’t give me much, I ended up way more into Lingzhuo’s arc. The whole smuggling treasures investigation from other countries was way more interesting than all the romance tropes. Honestly, that storyline was the one that carried the show and kept me watching till the end.
This drama is adapted from a novel I rated pretty mediocre, around 3/5, which I read more than 5 years ago (back before I even got married). So yeah, it’s been a while 😅. Looking back at my old NovelUpdates review, I thought it was just okay. The ML wasn’t my type, there were way too many filler parts, and the villain wasn’t exactly brilliant either. I remember reading half with “proper” translations (which I even complained about at the time 🙄) and the rest through painful MTL just to get it done. Honestly, the only real positive thing I noted was the FL’s personality.
But who knows? Adaptations have surprised me before. TPOB is the perfect example. I dropped the novel and rated it 2/5, then after watching the drama, I even tried picking it up again because I couldn’t remember why I dropped it in the first place. Halfway through, it all came back, and I dropped it all over again. Yet the drama adaptation turned out way more enjoyable, and I love that drama so much. So maybe this one will pull the same trick on me too.
Yes, this drama is a high-budget production, but honestly… who knows? Sometimes I can’t help but wonder if there’s money laundering going on behind the scenes, because the quality definitely doesn’t match the amount of money they seem to have poured into it.
