Serious question. Who the heck is the voice actor for HYT? I know he’s always had a stiff-faced, but that doesn’t mean his intonation has to be lifeless too. It’s like watching a robot read lines.
I’ve actually finished watching this drama! Honestly, I struggled so much with episode 1. It took me 2 whole days just to get through it. Thankfully, things picked up in episode 2, but it didn’t really get fun until around episode 20 or 21.
The drama has a bit of romance and politics, but the main focus is definitely on family and business. I love the fl. She’s the backbone of her family and handles their business like a pro. I also ended up liking her family too; even though they were a bit annoying in the early episodes, you can tell their intentions were good. But what I loved the most about this drama? The fight scenes! They were super satisfying to watch and really well done.
I’ve officially found my new top favorite character, and she’s Xiao Qiao. Sunny789’s review already explained…
Now, moving on from Xiao Qiao. I also really liked the character development of our male lead, Wei Shao. In the early episodes, there were moments where my heart hurt for Xiao Qiao because of how he treated her. But at the same time, I felt bad for him too, especially after Xiao Qiao explained that she understood why he acted that way. So while I like Wei Shao, he’s not a character I’m deeply attached to.
As for the side characters, the general and maid couple is my 2nd favorite storyline. They’re so cute together, and I genuinely adore their scenes! To me, they feel more like the true 2nd couple, more than Xiao Qiao’s sister’s love story.
I also enjoyed the romance in this drama. It’s a slow burn, but when the characters are together, there’s real chemistry and intensity. And surprisingly, I liked the political aspect too. It’s not heavy on internal palace politics. It’s more about politics between countries, and it’s actually easy to follow.
Overall, I think the drama strikes a really nice balance between romance and politics. It kept me emotionally invested the whole way through.
I’ve officially found my new top favorite character, and she’s Xiao Qiao. Sunny789’s review already explained in detail why she’s the best, but I want to add a bit more about why I love her so much.
Xiao Qiao is incredibly patient, even with her husband’s temper. In the early episodes, when he still didn’t trust her and would lash out in anger, she still responded with calmness and grace. That really stayed with me.
I truly felt for her, carrying the emotional burden of loving both her clan and her husband’s clan, yet being unable to express it openly out of fear of hurting his feelings. That quiet strength and selflessness really touched me.
What makes me admire her even more is how she never forgets her responsibilities to her people. She’s not just emotionally intelligent. She’s knowledgeable too. Her understanding of geography and agriculture, and how she applies it strategically in war and politics, is impressive. She's more than just kind. She's wise and capable.
That reunion hug completely got me 😭💞 I’m so glad it was a happy ending and they truly deserved it. My heart feels full... yet strangely empty at the same time. Maybe it’s just hitting me that this was the last episode.
Everyone. Tomorrow is already the final episode. 😭 I’ve truly fallen in love with this drama. Every character feels so special and comforting in their own way.
No one’s really talking about the OST, but I need to say it. The music is perfect. It fits the story so well, and I’ve never skipped the intro even once. 💙
Namase’s narration is another highlight. I love how he explains old terms and naval slang that even today’s Japanese viewers might not know. It adds such a nice touch.
And the way they show the support between Navy wives, Ikuko being there for Natsumi like a true friend and a mother figure, was so heartwarming. Fumiko as her new bestie, and of course… Takimasa-sama, the most wonderful husband.
This has truly been my comfort drama. Gonna miss it so much.

So it’s confirmed they’re releasing it on Viki! I just hope more people get to know about this drama. It’s truly one of those hidden gems that bring comfort.
I can’t believe next week is already the last episode. Slice-of-life dramas like this one deserve to go on longer, like, all the way to old age. I just want to keep watching their story unfold. They’ve really become my comfort characters. 🥹🥹
I’ve seen a lot of Japanese netizens praising this movie, and it already passed 1 billion yen this week! I really want to watch it, but as a foreigner, I’m not sure I’d get it since I don’t know anything about Kabuki.
Rewatched it again now that it’s on Netflix, and I’m still sticking with the same rating and comment I made 3 years ago. I love the main couple, but I never liked the 2nd couple, their story just felt boring to me.
I still don’t like how they included the mental health angle either. It didn’t feel like they delivered or resolved it properly. Honestly, they shouldn’t have touched that genre if they weren’t going to handle it well.
I really relate to her, especially when her husband has to be away for work for long stretches of time. My husband works offshore, so I often feel lonely too. Sometimes I go back to my parents’ house, or even visit my in-laws since my husband is their only child. They miss him as much as I do, so it helps to be around each other.
The first episode of this drama looks really promising! It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed an ongoing Japanese drama. Katsuhisa Namase as the narrator is definitely the cherry on top of this drama.
It’s a cute drama, but I feel like the male lead’s main career feels more like a voice actor than a doctor, even though he’s supposed to be a specialist. They keep mentioning how busy he is, but to me, he actually seems to have plenty of time to hang out in the studio too. I usually skip the second lead's love story, but this one is actually pretty good.

This scene from episode 6 is my favorite! The way she playfully pokes him. Seriously, it’s too cute.
I've had the song on loop in my mind all day!
