I couldn't find english subs for this but even so I think I understood most of the story. It was pretty good - had great acting and interesting plot. Zhang Fengyi is so young here! Love his older stuff.
For me, this wasn't that great. I could predict where everything was going, and at some parts the story felt like they were packing in too many elements in a short space of time. It's not the worst thing ever. It's still watchable, just wish the writing was more original.
I had this on my watchlist for the longest time. So glad I finally gave it a go! It's slow paced so wait to watch it until you are in the mood for such a movie so that you can appreciate it fully!
To me this is bromance not BL. That distinction is very important before heading into the film because you'll be left sorely dissappointed if you expect to see any smooches.
This is a bit off topic from the movie [which was great btw] but this was one of the first korean films I watched before falling into the k-drama rabbit hole. I watched it again recently and its so weird reckognising all the actors!! It's a TOTALLY different experience watching a film when you reckognise everyone as opposed to not.
Kim Dong Wook's acting is amazing cuz I felt so bad for the king. I wanted him to have the world and more u_u. When he reached up at the end to touch her face whilst dying tho ಥ_ಥ
I don't know how close this movie is to the real story, but as far as the film is concerned I felt a lot of sympathy for Zee-Oui, his victims mostly of course, but for him as well. Afterall, he was a victim of cruel circumstances. The serial killing that followed seemed to be a symptom/consequence of the pain he had already endured. He suffered a lot emotionally and physically, was met with one hardship after another, and was generally treated cruelly by the world. You take all those factors and add a pinch of PTSD [he served in WW2], and there you have it; a perfect recipe for the making of a serial killer. This film sort of tackles the elusive question, what makes a serial killer? are they made or are they born? Anyways, it's a dark film, but a very interesting one. The acting was on point, and the overall production value was quite nice.
This one was bleak but a good watch. If anyone knows a link for this let me know. I watched it on Tubi a while back but it's no longer available there.
