We are in a transition period in the story where we’ve gone from 2 episodes packed full of action and the plot moving forward to this transition of 4 episodes that yes, are very slowed down in contrast but they are establishing the deep deep bond between our main leads, the deep bonds of the Gu Family staff to the Gu Matriarch and the “start from scratch” scrappiness of our main leads who have now lost nearly everything and will claw themselves back to be in a position to battle the enemy. I think they could have edited it down from 4 episodes to 2 or 3 but I’m confident that now that we have passed through this transition and they are finally settled there will be forward progress again and things will start picking up again. GJS is going to win friends and loyalty while he climbs up the ranks and recreates the bonds he had before, LYR is going to establish her business and build back up the Gu Family business sector, they will help solve the problems in their new home city and shore themselves up to fight the Crown and their Half Brother enemy.

In real life he is the ultimate boyfriend material! He cooks, builds, does interior renovations to make his apartment look so lovely, he boxes and has a jeep all fitted out for camping and he’s a major camper. His relationship with his mom is sooooo cute and he’s so humble. Highly recommend you watch his episodes to fall in love with him in real life.

Exactly. I’ve tried to express this same sentiment. It’s not really about the budget or special effects. Those can be overcome. It’s the overall low quality production value and what seems like a really amateur director who should have never have been chosen to helm this project. He was given incredible ingredients to work with but simply doesn’t have the tools. His style is amateurish and beyond outdated. Some people say it’s giving more Donghua vibes /Anime vibes but it’s being done poorly. Other adaptations do not look so amateurish. His angels, editing style are not good. And it’s also unbalanced. Some scenes look very nice while others are cringe. There are moments that work followed by “wtf is this” And it’s a shame because it’s very stark.
Xu Kai looks absolutely gorgeous though and this allows him to show off his incredible skills but it’s like having a a Diamond in mud.
I’m really surprised Weibo is responding favorably. I want the best for Xu Kai so I’m happy if they are liking the drama but quite surprised.
Yin Tao is one of my favorite directors. He never misses. He understands characters and pacing and storytelling and always creates beautiful visuals. Destined is Shaping up to be top 3 drama of the year imo.
