1. HMH has done plenty of modern/period non-costume drama’s. As well as different genres like I am Nobody. 2.…
I just vehemently disagree. And yes I’m talking about aesthetics. the only time I didn’t like his wig is in the first and third chapters of Ancient Love Poetry when he is Bai Ju. But as Qing Mu in the middle chapter he was 10/10. And it wasn’t the makeup it was simply the wig. In the legends his hair and makeup were gorgeous. In WOL same. In Moonlight Reunion he was beautiful. If you’re not his fan that’s fine. different tastes for everyone. But Xu Kai aesthetics for me rival HMH and I’m a fan both both equally for their beauty.

oh I so disagree. Xu Kai is amazing in Costime dramas while his modern dramas never appeal to me. His Republican drama with Bai Lu is an exception. but Xu Kai in costume dramas is never a fail.
Up until the breakup it’s a 100/10 that’s how good it is. It felt extremely high quality, truly modern and new. After the breakup I progressively lost interest in the fate of the characters. The Live-streaming was way way more interesting (and made more sense) than the fashion line of ethnic clothing that wasn’t her style and she didn’t wear. The pink dress wasn’t anything like the rest of the line and I get they were trying to insert social commentary on preserving ethnic style fashion but it simply did not fit with the rest of the story. Her making millions as a live-streamer or starting her own streaming company would have been much better and made more sense. William Chan does nothing for me aesthetically and I just wasn’t interested enough in his scenes or character deleopment which felt shallow. I also don’t quite get how in such a nosy community an older mother who was never pregnant could suddenly pop up with a baby and the small community they were in plus media not gossip or suspect anything. They could have fixed that plot hole by claiming the baby was adopted but that’s not written into the plot. we are supposed to just accept that they were able to pass off Haochen and this new baby as their own and never ask questions. It’s just an annoying plot hole. With that said, I loved the mother in law and Haochen. But it went from a show with incredible tension and suspense and angst and layered characters to your very average girl power show where she and he became bland. The first half of the show is truly one of the best I’ve ever watched and had insane rewatch material. She’s gorgeous, her styling is gorgeous, her performance is beyond phenomenal and relatable to me. I just think the plot in the second half was not well done and they could have taken better routes to get our leads to the end point they wanted to get to. But the first half is *chefs kiss*
The amnesia is reminding me of Shadow Love in a GOOD way. Powerful, Smart, Cunning ML is injured and has amnesia, is saved and taken in by equally strong and smart FL. ML becomes her servant.
thanks!
2. you left Xu Kai off your list!
I LOVE this trope.
