Need some Tang Dynasty knowledge here. Why do they call a woman “Xian Sheng”? Like Ping’an calling Kong…
Tang dynasty was very open and egalitarian towards women. So very educated women from renown poets, medical practitioners respected for their knowledge or professions are addressed as 先生 (xiān sheng) or in this context, teacher. In later dynasties it became an honorific used almost exclusively for men.
Shouldn't the title be "The first night with the prince"?
The people who pick the English title translations are usually on crack lol Why else would "Goblin" (the literal name of the drama) be called "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God?" in English?
The literal translation of the Korean for this drama would be "I Took the Male Protagonist's First Night" — not "The First Night With the Duke"

They drilled nail holes in some wooden pillars to hang props. The holes seem very small (as expected from nail holes) but since the building is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it became a huge issue.
Hey, just a heads-up for anyone watching this drama, there's been a serious controversy during filming. The First…
Right at the start of the first episode they mention it so it does not seem like they are trying to hide it.
From the pictures I have seen I would barely call it damage, but being a building that is supposed to be preserved I understand how even this small amount of damage could be a problem. At least this whole situation served the purpose of creating stricter guidelines for future filming. Hopefully these new guidelines will prevent similar issues from happening.
Hey, just a heads-up for anyone watching this drama, there's been a serious controversy during filming. The First Night with the Duke faced backlash because the crew damaged a UNESCO World Heritage Site(Byeongsanseowon Confucian Academy) by hammering nails into the wooden pillars of the historic building to set up props and lighting. This site is protected under international and national heritage laws, and damaging it isn’t just disrespectful… It’s illegal. UNESCO sites are places with outstanding cultural or historical value to humanity. They’re supposed to be preserved exactly because they hold centuries of cultural memory and identity. Damaging them for entertainment or convenience is not just careless but t's a violation of global heritage. As a result of this, the production team received huge backlash, a formal complaint was filed, some scenes might be cut, and KBS had to apologize. Authorities are even investigating the staff for breaking heritage protection laws. I’m not saying don’t watch the drama, just wanted people to be aware of what happened behind the scenes. I also feel bad for actors…
