Gosh, I just finished the second season and I'm left wanting another one! Cho Seung Woo really charms in an understated way. That final scene with him and Han Yeo Jin though! I love their dynamic so much. Now I'm hunting down all of Cho Seung Woo's works (I really enjoyed his character in Sisyphus who was completely different, yet loveable too).
This was an unusual choice for a movie, which felt very much like the origin story of an assassin (Joon sook). It was a coming of age in a way, and I imagined Joon sook could become very much like the main character in the mange "Love of Kill", if you've ever read that. A charismatic, skilled, yet emo assassin who doesn't hopes to live any other way. Rather than this being a story about escaping or defeating the bad guy, it shows Joon Sook's change of mind from hunted to hunter, but along the way losing any other dream of his own. Honestly it's like the main bad guy wanted him to turn out this way, and I can imagine in the future they are enemies but share some weird bond over both being killers and being alone. In conclusion, an interesting choice for a movie that leaves a lot for the viewer to interpret.
This is so amazing. I was just waiting for Lee Je Hoon to get to the top! But funnily enough, I've become a fan of Cho Seung Woo over the last week due to watching Stranger and Sisyphus. So because of him I will eventually watch Divorce Attorney Shin too.
Whey they didn't release the sixth episode yesterday?
I was curious too, on Kocowa they didn't release a 6th ep, but a description mentioned something about a recap episodes with 4 celebrities recapping what happened in eps 1-5. So I'm guessing it took one day off.
Still didn't watch this drama. I'm really afraid that this one would make me depressed because I heard there are…
I would say there is a happy ending for our main characters. But the story itself deals with learning about various people's stories after their death, so that part can be sad.
So, I just started watching "The Guardian" and a character reminded me of Key. And then I thought "I'll look up if key has done any acting since I might want to check it out." But actually, it WAS Key in The Guardian! So funny because I've only seen one interview with him so the character just vaguely reminded me of him.
I'm really loving this show (up to ep 12), but I have to say that aside from our main characters, EVERY police officer is absolutely horrible. Even if it's pointing out some real corruption or problems within the Korean police force, most of the officers are so hateful it's like they don't care about any victims and only care about their own careers. I think I would appreciate it if there were a few more likeable officers sprinkled in here or there which would seem a little closer to real life. Anyway, I'm very glad I haven't watched Taxi yet, because I now have that and other Lee Jae Hoon dramas to look forward to.
Alchemy of Souls indeed has risen to become my favorite Kdrama of all time! I watched season 2 three times in a row, and season 1 at least twice. I learned a lot from this article, and I especially loved Jang Uk's story and how Lee Jae Wook portrayed him.
I enjoyed reading your comments very much! These characters are alive to me. the really astonishing accomplishment…
In the spoiler section - I did consider an ending where the girl we got to know in season 2 was actually the real Jin Cho-yeong, who had also fallen in love with Jang Uk as a silent witness to his love for Mu-doek. I would actually have been fine with that as well! Though it would have been really sad because it meant Mu-doek died in season 1. I also considered if both people could be co-existing in one body, creating a mix of personalities.
Perhaps the change in actress was hard for people to accept, but for me I really liked the girl we saw in season 2, even though I couldn't tell which person she was until it was revealed. Hats of the writers and the actors!
Annyeong Chingus 👋Goodbyes are hard but inevitable. AoS will forever be very close to my heart. I have never…
I enjoyed reading your comments very much! These characters are alive to me. the really astonishing accomplishment in this series is my belief in Mu-doek as a character in season 1 even when I know it's not her body I'm seeing. And I was absolutely willing to follow that character into season 2 and find out what happens to her, no matter whose body she is in.
The really fascinating part of the story to me was the question of where is Jin Cho-yeong all this time, who are we really seeing in season 2, and what will become of both girls? I cared about both of them and considered many different endings. No spoilers, but I was still surprised by the actual answers and resolutions. In all science fiction with body swapping, it is rare for the story to pay attention to morality or ethics of the person who is playing "host" if they aren't the main character. So this conundrum was adequately dealt with to my satisfaction in the entire story, and the fact that I could relate absolutely to the female lead in both seasons shows how much this body swapping thing made me sympathize with both girls.
From what I understand, Naksu's father was targeted because he had learned about the King's Star. They weren't…
Wow, that's a really great question about whether the heroine's father was actually her father when he ran wild! Since this idea never comes up, I assume that he had shifted back so it was really her father who died.
From what I gathered about the bells, the shaman had put a curse on the souls she shifted, and later we learned that people were taking a potion that make them suceptible to the bells. So I assume a normal soul shifter wouldn't be affected by bells, only those who were cursed/took the potion. (Meaning, if only Naksu had not been given that potion by the scam artist, she would have been fine.) Does that sound right?
What an epic drama. Am I the only one who wants a season 3 with our UkYeong hunting the relics, and maybe scenes…
Absolutely! Though it seems like it would only happen if there were a huge demand for it, so I sent a request to Netflix to let them know. Doing my part!
One of the greatest dramas of all time, even the best AOS. A character like Jang Uk will never come, I will miss…
Yes! Jang Uk was so awesome, his entrance in the first episode, and then every time he appeared his character had so much weight! He gave off heavy Jedi vibes, kind of like Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi, but we got so much of him in season 2 which was really great. It wasn't just a few awesome moments, each time Jang Uk showed up it was awesome!
Any suggestions to watch? The void is getting bigger already.ðŸ˜
Do you mean, any other shows to watch that are similar? I've been thinking of what else can possibly come close, and here are a few suggestions: The Untamed (similar in the supernatural aspect), Sword Snow Stride (nicely focuses on our main hero and really cool fight scenes), and also the very long and darker Novoland: Eagle Flag, which felt to me a lot like Lord of the Rings and is an immersive fantasy world with a hero burdened with potential power. These are all Chinese dramas on Viki, or the Untamed is on Netflix.
The only Korean one I can think of is Lovers of the Red Sky, which is the other Korean fantasy that I really liked. If there are other Korean fantasies (that don't end in a cliffhanger, though), I'd love to hear people's suggestions!
I absolutely loved this from beginning to end. Jang Uk was the coolest character I've seen in a long, long time, and I loved every second he was on screen.
Can this get a third season? I've done my part by requesting Netflix renew a season 3 just in case the writers want to try. I want to keep seeing these characters and their stories.
